I'll be seventy next year, and so it's natural that I constantly compare my youth to current culture, and I've concluded that I was better off without much of today's "advanced* living. I never felt that I was suffering in any way growing up. All I can do now, is live simply, frugally, and let much of the nonsense flow past me.
Loooove this rant. I’m a millennial and I love physical media too. I love having the option of an audiobook, because I can go outside and touch nature at the same time. But I want a human voice, a person who shares their soul in reading the words. You said you like social media, and that is not the same as AI. Making videos is another art form, like this one where I get to see part of New York and cool shots on your shelves. That you took. With your mind and soul. I haven’t seen the commercial and I probably won’t because I too will probably fear having a heart attack. We need analogue. Real connection. Slowing down. Activating our senses. Straightening our bent and painful necks (me). I’m glad your back is better by the way. And I laughed out loud at Alexa how to I make spaghetti 😂😂😂 the honking was a nice touch as well, well played.
I'm glad your back is getting better. You mentioned something about current technology that concerns me greatly too. It is that a person can always be contacted by their workplace. The separation between work and private time no longer exists. This may be good for a company, but I don't think it is good for workers.
@@stuartgriffin1001 I want to believe that too. I don’t think AI will help though. I think people will move more toward self-sufficiency and homesteading and smaller collectives again. Not all, but some are. When people realize that companies aren’t loyal to their employees, the employees stop being loyal to the companies. Which might be just as well, if that means we start living in harmony with nature again. One can dream… 😊

Hey there, Rumpus! I hadn’t seen that Apple clip (I rarely watch TV) but whoa! 😳 I fully endorse your rant, and agree with everything you said. I won’t have any truck with those e pencil thingies (I draw and paint), or electronic books. I’ve tried. I just can’t. I’m an analogue girlie. Have any of the big cheeses at Apple ever read a dystopian novel? We’re upgrading ourselves into obsolescence.

I did read Among Flowers…, such a disappointing book by Jamaica Kincaid after her incredible adventure gathering flower seeds in the Himalayas. I didn’t always understand her metaphors and at times her writing didn’t make sense. More to the point would have been for the author to show colored photographs of the scenery and plants, there were no colors and few pictures in this National Geographic travel writing book. What a loss of information! Also, Ms. Kincaid deserves an attitude adjustment, the term “the Ugly American” came to mind several times. I wonder what the Sherpas must have thought of her.

Brilliant. And that advert is anti culture, the worst! Also....the end of the video you were sitting in front of my two fave albums of all time.....Bowie would hate that advert for sure! Hendrix is hit and miss for me, he entertains but misses something to keep me engaged. Happy Reading . PAUL

Boundaries are important.
If it’s not good for the workers, it’s not good for the company. Meaning I agree with you! The lack of boundaries makes people ill.
