    I just got mine in yesterday. You don't have to spin the key all the way around. Just short 1/4 turn and back will unlock it. ALSO for those who find the price tag a little hard to swallow. I suggest you consider purchasing the mounting bracket then some of Giant Loops dry duffles/bags and adventure straps. You'll be able to strap down the bags to the plates. The RTW bags are awesome though!

      +Doctoberfest598 awesome! , glad you like them. Thanks for mentioning the the 1/4 turn on then locks. On the old style you had to go all the ways around. At least with mine I did. I noticed you don’t have to on the new ones. Thanks for the comment👍🏻

    Found your channel last week and had to subscribe. Now I am binge watching your build up and maintenance of the Africa Twin. Just moved from Coeur d'Alene down to Arizona. Boy do I miss my trees and country living. Not to mention all the great forest service roads and trails. The wife just couldn't stand the winters there. Now it is cactus and rattlesnakes.

    Great video and great looking bag. I've used GL gear for quite a while and am very impressed with their gear. I understand the why, but crazy you need to poke holes yourself and assemble your almost $1k bags. Be nice if they offered it ready to go.

    Great Videos.....I wonder if you could use the hard plastic piece as a template to take the guess work out of finding the holes?

    • @backcountryadvmoto
      @backcountryadvmoto  Před 4 lety +2

      +Stillwater Possibly. The issue with that is that is sits in a very tight pocket on the inside so by putting the plastic on the outside as a template, you would have a hard time knowing of you got it lined up with the pocket correctly.

    What rack do you have on your bike ? The one I have is not even all the way around on the exhaust side. When I bought the bike it had the rack already installed. Thank you for your answer.

    I just ordered my backing plates to fit the SW-Motech rack system.... when I get them here, I'll order the bags... great video and right on time because I was wondering how to mount the bag to the new frames that will be coming... I'll have to experiment with the placement a little more but it should be pretty straight forward. Thanks for the help!

      I received my SW-Motech plates to fit my SW-Motech EVO side racks. The plates are for fitting up the SW-Motech soft bags they offer. I wanted the Round the World soft bags for an upcoming ride. There was a little "fit up issue" with the mounting brackets on the EVO racks...(there are little round "pucks" that fit the SW-Motech hard bags and make them easy on and easy off) The new adapter plates I just got need an additional little knob that sticks off of one of the little puck mounting tabs so the side plates will grab onto the plate latching mechanism...(about the size of 4 dimes stacked up) SW-Motech does make an adapter kit for $16 but I only needed one little part out of the kit... so I'd say you could just stack up 4 dimes and drill a hole in them and mount them just fine.
      Once I got the mounting tabs figured out, I ordered the last set of Round the World panniers I could find... Ryan from Giant Loop told me to try Rocky Mountain and they had a pair...
      Mounting the RTW paniers to the SW-Motech side plate to EVO side racks was pretty straight forward. The video you have above is the only way I was able to do it.... The hardest part was matching up and drilling holes through the plastic plates in the bags and matching those up and drilling the 1/4" holes into the aluminum SW side plates... and you have to find your own hardware to mount everything... the hardware doesn't come with the bags alone. it only comes with the Giant Loop plates. I used 1/4 - 20 stainless steel screws 1'' long with washers and Nylock nuts.
      Once finished, the bags slip on and snap right into place and work exactly as the Giant Loop plates do, with the exception there is no way to lock the side bags onto the bike using the SW-Motech system.... they do latch on and snap into place and hold solid and secure, just no security for overnight type stuff... but that's the beauty of having them removable to take inside a hotel or whatever....
      Thanks for the advise and the video.... maybe see ya on a trail sometime
      Todd

    The new bags look smaller than the older ones . Is that just because they were new and not fully opened up and do they make multiple sizes ? I was looking at Lone Rider MotoBags but they are over a grand for a set . Not sure if I am willing to spend that much on luggage right now . The way I look at it is a grand is about a half acre of land .

    • @backcountryadvmoto
      @backcountryadvmoto  Před 4 lety +1

      +Hardworking American they are the same size. Maybe just become they weren’t stuffed. The Round the World Panniers only come in one size. But I hear ya. Almost any brand you go with is spendy. I like the giantloop stuff because it’s made in the USA, and it’s bomb proof. They are a small outfit with that homegrown feel. Great people making great gear.

    When does the BAM discount code come out? Love these panniers but for that kinda cash, I'm sleeping outside for a couple of days when the bank statement shows up. Since I'd be buying them before my moto camping tent, I'd love to at least have a story of how much I saved. That might help minimize the time in the dog house. :)

    Not everybody has that type of soldering iron! Not a very good system from what I’m seeing, hole in bag ,not good for water tight.

    • @backcountryadvmoto
      @backcountryadvmoto  Před 3 lety +1

      You don’t have to use a soldering iron, a drill would work too. When you tighten the bolts the washers create a seal with with the material. I’ve used these for 6 years and they are absolutely dry. I live in the NW, where we get ALOT of rain and they are always dry. Not to mention there is an internal dry bag if you want double coverage.
