  • When deciding how to mount the Giant Loop Mototrekk Panniers to your adventure or dual sport motorcycle, there are three methods to consider. Previously, we covered the direct mounting method and strapping the Mototrekk Panniers directly to the Giant Loop Pannier Mounts. In this video, we'll go over the third option, mounting the Giant Loop Mototrekk Panniers directly to the GL Pannier Mounts using the hardware included in the Pannier Mounts package. This is by far the most secure and stable Mototrekk Pannier mounting method, but it's also the most permanent because it requires cutting off a couple straps and actually melting holes in your waterproof panniers.

    Highly recommended for all riders who want the full convenience of the quick release, lockable GL Pannier Mounts! with the hardware mount, the top straps don't really have to go through the top (it's easier and faster to get in/out of the Panniers if you don't).

      I try to keep it professional over here on the GL channel, but I was definitely thinking of a few in my head ;)

    $355 for 2 sheets of metal and a few connectors seems insanely expensive!

      I thought so too until I got them. Top quality!!! Locks are nice. But yeah I choked a little to. Saw knock off versions but I am happy with them.

      Yes, just as ridiculous as an $800 slip on Akropovic for the T7. It’s just a can with packing. High quality or not prices are stupid high these days.

    Pro Tip: Pay attention to where the side straps with the G-hooks are lined up with the slots in the mounting bracket. Ideally you'd like them to not have to stretch up or down to go thought the slots, so positioning the bracket to accommodate that is worth considering.

    Just got the bags at the open house a couple days ago. When I picked up my Triumph pannier frame kit I noticed an extra bracket on the top bar I will have to remove to use the GL mount bracket. Going to use them at the end of the month for a trip to Cerro Gordo Mines. I hear the Yellow Grade Road is a bit rough. Should be a good test.

    I did this with my RTW bags, however I made the holes quite a bit smaller so the screw actually stretched them taught and then put a small circle of RTV seal around the screw just to make it a little bit more water resistant. I have a bad track record at water crossings what can I say.

    Can the holes be done with a drill instead of a soldering iron?

    • @GiantLoopMoto
      @GiantLoopMoto  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes but the holes won't be as clean.

      I drilled my holes and then cleaned and sealed the edges up with the soldering iron. I found the iron by itself was difficult to make a large enough hole.

    Hi Ben! I've been using the MotoTrekk Bags for a few months and just ordered these mounts. I'm going to bolt them up this way. Thank you for all the great videos... Do you think if I bought a 2nd set of mounts they would be strong enough to mount aluminum boxes on them for a quick release solution?

    Will the bag still be waterproof with those extra holes?

    • @GiantLoopMoto
      @GiantLoopMoto  Před rokem

      Yes. The seal is very tight once you get the hardware tightened down. Just don't submerge them ;)

    How much weight do the mounts add?

    Scissors....drilling.....soldering iron....permanent marring.....ill pass!!!
