His dismount wasn't anywhere near as clean as Zanetti which is why he got 5th. He piked the layout, had feet apart before the landing and took a step, where as Zanetti had an open layout and stuck the landing.
@T G in gymnastics, the final score you see is made up of the sum of 2 other scores. A difficulty score (all skills performed and rules followed for the event) and an execution score (a rating out of 10 based on all deduction that happened in the routine). For the 2013 world championship, Zanetti had a D score of 6.8 and an E score of 9.0 (the highest execution for the competition) compared to van gelder with a D score of 6.9 and an E score of 8.633. So even though van gelder was .1 higher in difficulty, his execution score wasn't high enough to make up the difference on Zanetti. From what I saw, it was probably the dismount that did it. He was probably around a 9.1 or 9.0 E score until the dismount.
