  • The GSD is one of, if not the best, compact cargo bikes on the market today. Every inch of the bike is covered in useful features, coming together in a dense product that continues to impress with each mile. Check out the full review on electrek.co

      It's too much, in my opinion. You pay an extra 3k for automatic shifting, ABS, and other stuff that are nice but just not worth that much money.

    So, I bought a Tern GSD and it is still within it's warranty period. There was a problem with the lights (lights switched off every time I pressed the brakes) and the bike had to be sent back to Tern for repair.
    1 month later, the bike is still at Tern. I called the distributor for Tern in Belgium (Hartje) and the guy pretty much asked me why I was calling and what did he expect me to do about my bike being in service. He also said that I shouldn't expect my bike back before some time next year because they are busy and have a lot of bikes to repair. HE WOULD NOT EVEN TELL ME WHEN NEXT YEAR I COULD EXPECT MY BIKE BACK.
    This is a bike that cost Euro 6500, still in warranty and which we used to use daily fro dropping our kids at school. It should not take 2+ months to repair - especially since apparently what is needed is to replace the internal wiring.
    I didn't pay this money just to have it sitting in a repair facility in Germany.

    When people talk about what separates a cargo bike from a car, in terms of usage, I have yet to hear anyone talk about what it is for me: a locking trunk. When I’m out and about, especially on a weekend shopping day, I’m going to be in and out of four or five places. As it stands today, that means I have to unload and carry my shit into each subsequent shop I visit. That, specifically, is why a bike, cargo or no, is not competing with a car, for many people. Why is this hard to figure out?
    So if someone finally decides to make a cargo bike that has a cargo compartment large enough for at least four grocery bags, with a real lock, that is not held on with Velcro straps, then they may be onto something.

    i dont know much about mid drive torque motors, but 250w sounds incredible small for both the prospective load and the price. also, why can there be no throttle? huge downside. am i missing something?

    • @anxiousappliance
      @anxiousappliance Před 3 lety +3

      Midrives run throught the pedals and drivetrain - a throttle could get weird as your legs are spun up. Mids are considered "refined", and with a torque sensor I'll bet they are, but with the added driveline wear relative to a hub, I wonder if a cargo bike is the ideal application.

    • @huhugrub1237
      @huhugrub1237 Před 3 lety

      Yes you are the motor puts out over 1000Watts according to independent testing, the 250Watt rating is just for legal purposes.

    • @Ferrichrome
      @Ferrichrome Před 2 lety

      The radwagon is a hub motor while this is a mid drive, you're gonna get much more torque with this and it'll be easier to change the tube in the rear tire.

    • @versatyledc
      @versatyledc Před 2 lety +2

      @@Ferrichrome yea but the downside to mid drives is that most have no throttle. The lectric xp premium has a mid drive, dual batteries and a throttle for less than 2000 dollars. Once that bike releases in June the competition is going to be ugly because if other Ebike companies want to compete they are going to have to drastically start dropping the prices of there bikes especially the ones with mid drives

    • @Ferrichrome
      @Ferrichrome Před 2 lety

      @@versatyledc that sounds cool I will wait to see how that bike is when it comes out but sounds promising.
