So back in the day when I worked in the University of California system, I attended trainings, workshops and other meetings where the speakers and presenters were promulgating their brands of political correctness. If you were in the audience, you just sat there and listened to all manner of nonsense, some even dangerous ideas. An analogy would be listening to a speaker lecture on the theme of world peace and he or she would muse about genociding White people as a necessary step towards World peace. The audience would be mostly White liberals, some administrative staff, some professional, managerial staffers and they would be nodding in agreement. No one would dare stand up and question the speaker.

Well..I guess because it sounds like he is saying they're brave! And they're Not! They're just brainwashed idiots that murdered a heap of innocent people.
I believe it was more that he said western nations were the cowards as they fired military ordinance from a safe distance relative to suicide bombers killing themselves.
He also said WE are the cowards (during the 9/11 crisis).
