- This is a story, of a child named Blue.
Her twin was Yellow.
Together, they were two.
My thesis film for CalArts. This film was perhaps the project I've ever had the most fun and inspiration making, and it kept me going during what has been, for many reasons, a stressful year. I take pride in that I was able to composite and complete this all at home, during social distancing.

*Love* the choice not to use music until a crucial moment. It really sells the tone. Also love the use of different art styles!

@@ecdragonlady8006 Nope, the sound gave, posture and movement gave it away. Yellow didn't pick up while Blue is anxiously waiting and the phone is making that noise when you call someone and they haven't picked up.

@@smiel__ a very neat observation! I actually made it deliberately very vague as to if he answered or not. Originally I was planning to record a phone call between me and my brother but I was worried it would not sound candid enough so I went with the ever so vague dial tone instead. 😀

I must admit, up until the end, I thought this was gonna end with a reveal that the yellow twin was a stillborn, and that blue's been trying to cope with that all her life by imagining that having a sibling would've been annoying, until one day she can't keep that facade up anymore and is forced to confront the pain of all the good things that also never were.
Very glad it had a happier ending than my dramatic ass thought it would. ^^"

The animation, color palette, and sound design are all phenomenal. I can't express how much I enjoyed watching this. I got chills when the umbilical cord was cut.
Me and my twin have been together for YEARS. Even now we're roomates in college. It's going to kill me when she leaves. Amazing animation!
As a twin who is about to move away from her sis, this hits close to home :,) Beautiful animation though! It was an incredibly sweet little story, and you really did a good job communicating how they felt without adding dialogue! Great work!
I feel so bad for the child blue, she seemed genuinely irritated by her brother 'yellow' but only when it was far too late did she remember all the good times they've had together. The symbolic scissors cutting the 'cord' was perfect for conveying her infinitely too late attempt at apologizing. It's alot like life that way, I only saw my relationship improve with my brother significantly once he moved away from my family to live on his own and do college and a job in I.T. and stuff. So I sadly can relate to this video a whole darn lot.
I will admit I didn't get along with him until he got his own life and no longer has any real time for me. I feel like such a heel watching this video. The feels man.
I watch this animation so often now that my older sister went to college. It just hits so close to home. In the part where the brother was loudly chewing on his food, his sister's gut annoyed, so he moved closer and made me laugh out loud.
I remember when I was young, I sat next to my sister on a bench, but when she noticed she got up and moved to the other side of the room. We just love annoying each other and this short film just captured siblinghood so perfectly.
AHHH im in love. reminds me of my brother and i :,) serves as a reminder for me that no matter how annoying siblings are theyre still a big part of ur life and nothing can compare to the bond you share

I particularly love that in their room there is a plug on the same wall that houses the lamp- but purposefully the cord is pulled forward in order to separate the two halves of the room. This shows not only something siblings definitely would do, but also shows their separation throughout life in how they feel emotionally. I love the small details.
wow, this is so beautiful! the scene where blue was desperately trying to get to the end of the umbilical cord to reunite with yellow was so brilliantly executed... i love this
i almosted cryied when the cord was cut..
I actually cried because this hit me hard, my relationship and my situation with my brother are almost similar to this, it really does feel like you're cutting ties with your siblings
Dude, why you gotta hurt me in this way? As an identical twin who recently had to process the pains of sibling separation, this was rough. But it was very relatable to some of the things that I felt.
I really love the composition/camera work and the way emotions are shown with just a pair of eyes through most of the animation
I was an only child growing up. But this reminds me so much of my kids. I hope they have as great of a bond when they get older.
This video encapsulates perfectly what it's like to have siblings. As a kid you remember the teasing. But what sticks are the small things. An M&M golfball. Magic the gathering. Old CDs. Though incredibly specific to me, it is important to remember these small things are a sign that they cared about you and loved you. Whether they directly said it or not.
Great animation!!! This just reminded me of that first night my twin sister moved out to college (my college started later than hers). Goodness it's a weird transition, loved seeing this
as a twin, this def hit hard,,, like as much as we've argued in our lives, I don't know what I'd do without my brother. It a different kind of bond that you never really notice until they're gone
I really love this film- it's so effective in its design and the music just adds so much. Also the goofy animation is so fun and fluid.

I love it! This reminds me of my twin brother and I!!! Just to prove how much twins argue and fight, tho they still love each other and wouldn’t want to leave each other.

When I clicked on the video it enlarged to full screen and those first two seconds of darkness was just enough to made me think my phone died

As someone who has siblings their age and used to be close but arent anymore WOW THIS STINGS. Its amazing and incredable and I love it but its also really close to home, in all the right ways. I love this so much because it really convays what being a sibling can be like
This is how complex a sibling relationship is, you can fight each other always, and keep getting "annoyed" of each other, but when one of them gets away, you start to realize how much you miss and care about them, I love everything about this
See now this is me
I have a twin sister who I've shared my room with and play games, do homework etc next to her almost every day, and we share things we see and talk about our day and people, and sometimes she's really annoying or mad at me. When one or both of us moves out, I don't know how I'm gonna cope not having a person by my side all day every day, especially after doing everything together for my entire life.
This damn film made me think!!!!! ew!!!!! (seriously though, it's amazing, and I can relate, well done!!!!!!)

Why did this make me cry
As a child with a sibling I can confirm how accurate the sibling interactions are, the goods and the annoyances, beautiful animation!

I get how she feels
I found this video just when my brother moved countries. My parents had split up and my mum decided to take my brother, i posessed a very dark and sad mindset during those times... but i am doing better now, this video has a really strong story that many like me can relate to. Animation is great, this deserves an award :) 👍🏼

I have never really been close to her since we have very opposite interests but watching this just makes me feel like shit for ever denying her my time. Most people don’t know this, but American society intentionally includes a lot of relocating. It breaks familiar bonds and makes people (I forget the details) less likely to form cliques (I think).

This animation is so amazing! I love all the cinematography and details in it, wow! Calarts is one of the schools I’m interested in going for the future for digital arts and this animation just makes me want to go more,, thank you for motivating me more! :D
Awesome choice! I loved my time there. My advice is definitely wait until COVID is less of a problem, because the school is mostly online right now and it's not quite the same as in person!
