I like how the caiman is rejected for clearly not being a cat. But the moment he puts a VERY unconvincing disguise though puts on a VERY cat-like behavior, he wins the audition.
Ну так, грим - это работа гримера, а работа актера - играть. Тут, все правильно. Понимаете, все эти реальные кошки - это личности; и они показывали именно себя. А алигатор сделал именно то, что его просили: он показал среднестатистическую, стереотипную кошку. Как не странно, но в жизни такое тоже бывает очень часто. Казалось бы, что может быть проще, чем сыграть самого себя? Но прикол тут именно в том, что "себя" не значит - "среднего представителя своего народа/профессии/вида, и тд". Потому, что вот такие, общие особенности - их реально лучше видно на расстояние. Тч, выбор на эту роль аллигатора, работавшего длительное время с кошками - логичен. Как ни парадоксально.

They basically said that even though the casting was for a basic cat, which you'd think an actual cat would have mastered; the caiman won because they captured the actual basic demeanor of a cat the casting people wanted. So, sometimes, actors can forget the "basics" and go for the master level of things. In this case, they were acting too individualistic as cats but couldn't capture that basic cat vibe.

He was a black cat who turned everything upside down, he was a very combative cat who was cramped in the apartment, we moved him to a country house, but he often disappeared somewhere, it turned out that he was fed by a family that left the occupation and lost a similar British guy there, and one day they just took him with them because they were moving again. I miss him, but I am glad that he was sheltered by a loving family

Somebody find the comment where they present a theory about how all the cats were rescues from the shelter the alligator worked at. They took up all the auditions and pretended to be horrible actors so the alligator would get the job.

As an owner of a black cat I can indeed confirm that it is just a void of fluff that is capable of bending space time.
Has black cat- can confirm. We kept the kitten in a box with really high sides (we had to stick our elbow in to reach the kits), and next morning we hear it screaming as it crawls around the room’s floor. Hence the name ‘Houdini’
