- Taking a look at the Samson MFG folding stock for the Ruger Mini-14 and a very quick accuracy check on M855 62 gr bullet accuracy from my Mini-14. Best group was 4 of 5 inside of 1 MOA with the 5th shot a called pull. We'll follow up with a slow fired accuracy test from a sand bag rest.

I have had several metal folding stocks and never liked any of them. From AK underfolders, HK collapsibles, to the Butler Creek mini 14 folder I had on my first mini14 I had years ago. Although they look cool, they've very impractical for most uses. None offer a decent cheek weld, some loosen up over time, and they tend to increase felt recoil, especially during fast fire exercises. Mini14s are capable of reasonable accuracy with most ammo, in my experience, if you do your part. Where they excel is in their reliability. You can pound nails with them. I'd trust a mini14 over any rifle that requires a forward assist any day of the week. I carried an AC556 when I worked perimeter as a prison guard. As long as you use good mags, you can bet your life on it.
Thank you for your honest and humble review. It's refreshing to see someone who isn't a blowhard or gear queer peddling guns few can afford. Ruger make an excellent product that a working man can afford. My uncle retired from Sturm Ruger years ago and knew Bill Ruger personally. He said he was a tough man, but fair. He had to be. His name was on the guns.
Anyhow, keep up the great work.
Thank you very much for you kind comments. The folding stock is again just something "cool". I put it on occasionally just for a fun change of pace for informal plinking in the backyard or down by the pond. I'm a traditionalist at heart and much prefer a simple wood stock to all of the fancy add on rails and lights. I did succumb to adding the L**pold 3-9x scope on this rifle for picking off coyotes and/or foxes across the field. I have a SW*A fixed 6x on the RAR in .308 for hunting. My Garand, M1A, and M1 C*rbine all have the standard military peep sights and I love them. I have a U**rtie 1873 I'm putting a M*rble tang site on next week. The Hen*y .22 WMR came with Skin**r peep sites which I love. Keep you eyes peeled for a beautiful 28 double that I should pick up tomorrow.....
nice group
The scope is in mils. I'm going to move it about 3 clicks right and 6 clicks up and put it on a sandbag. (Those shots were at 25 yards). We've had some medical issues here as of late so we are way behind in putting out videos. Mrs Hidden Acres is recovering well now so no worries.
The Samson ATM stock has only recently been offered straight from the factory. They were an aftermarket purchase for a long time prior to that, although Ruger was somewhat involved with Samson regarding these stocks.
On the ranch rifle you are correct. They were however available factory options early on. Samson & Ruger got together to "re-introduce" the folding stock.

I really like the "ATM" stock. Don't know if that's still how it's advertised on the Samson website but it really changes the whole look of the Mini. The stock is compatible with the Mini-14, Mini-30, etc..
Yes. It's just a fun "cool" thing to have. No chance of a decent cheek weld but still a lot of fun to shoot. It does collapse nicely for a truck gun sans the scope. The S*mson stock uses the original molds and specs from R*ger.

Yes, it's tons of fun and for a lot of people It brings back the A-Team vibes, lol.
Best wishes.
yep
Honestly for green tip it’s pretty good shootin
Here we go again with the YT censoring. They deleted my reply. Let's put it this way: It works fine for range work, informal plinking, and occasional 4 legged varmint. I'd shy away from that round in general for home defense if you're concerned about over penetration.
That's a sweet looking rifle. Thank you for the video
Wow but how YT keeps censoring and deleting my replies. I'll simply say "no problem" this time.
I Chronographed some green tips out of mine. Got around 3,010 fps on average. Accuracy wasn’t very good though.
We've been having some health related issues with Mrs Hidden Acres Outdoors. As soon as that is settled I will get an accuracy test completed. Remember the mil standard is only roughly 3ish MOA I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong - the data should be in the military RFP when they put out tech specs for desired new weapons / ammo).
I've never found the 62gr green tip to be very accurate even in very accurate rifles.
I've heard as much about the 855 green tips as well. Can I ask what twist rate the barrel that you used is? I'm not doubting you but I'm just curious. So far in my rifle it seems to be pretty good - at least as a range round. Mine certainly doesn't like the Rem Express 55 gr loads at all. All rifles seem to have their own personality don't they? ;) I'll have to do a better bench rest session with them using sand bags vs that crappy orange thing I was trying to use.
@@hiddenacresoutdoors-gunshu838 most of my guns are 1 in 8, but I have an old A1 that's 1 in 12(that really doesn't like anything heavier than 55gr) I also have one that's 1 in 10 and that actually probably is the most accurate with green tips. I'm not so sure I can really attribute that to the twist so much as that it's an old Olympic target rifle with a very accurate barrel. It shoots everything 64gr or lighter better than any other 5.56 I own. I have rifles with 5.56, .233 and .223 Wylde chambers. One is a 18" 1in 7 with a heavy profile bbl in .223 Wylde that I put together for 77gr bullets for coyote hunting. It seems to shoot 64 gr .223 deer season XP very well, but 62 green tips never do much better than 1.5 MOA. This gun regularly shoots 1/4-1/2 MOA with loads it likes including the 64gr XP load.
1/4 to 1/2 MOA is some serious accuracy. Congrats. I've got all the stuff to work up a load for the rifle but it'll never be a routine sub MOA shooter and I really don't need it to be. I would like to keep it in the 1.5 MOA range or less if possible though.
I guess you know your rifle rest was jumping all over the place as you were shooting.
Yep. That's why that "rest" went immediately to the dumpster. I'll stick with sandbags.
🇦🇺😎👍Perhaps the barrel was heating up or maybe that ammo is not suited to that barrel. Great video
Thanks. If you take a look at the miss pattern (there were only 15 shots vs the 20 I thought was in the mag), you'll see they're concentrated in about the 7 o'clock position. Absolutely poor trigger control on my part. The trigger on the rifle is pretty much what you'd expect from a good military trigger with the take up and then a clean break. I can polish it up a bit but it's not ever going to be like a nice bolt action hunting rifle - nor would you want it to be. Bottom line is that it was poor shooting on my part. I'll put it on some sandbags after Christmas and do it right next time.
🇦🇺😎👍Great reply@@hiddenacresoutdoors-gunshu838
Thanks
that's the PUBG mini 14 version
It's a cool stock but not one where you can really get a good cheek weld. Still fun to shoot though.
People seem to have better results with the imi and Pmc m855
I still haven't had a chance to bench test the M855 but I will soon.
Youll never shoot good groups with that rickety ass rest your using!!
You're exactly right. That's why it went straight into the dumpster and I went back to my tried and true sandbag setup.
