I've got to give a shoutout to Armature Studio, the studio behind the VR port of RE4. I left a review on the Oculus store for it and they responded with a VERY personalized reply addressing nearly all of my concerns, including the fact that Mercenaries mode is being added to the game in January. Very professional and friendly social team. Let alone the fact that RE4 VR is so damn fun that it's worth the price despite it's minor list of shortfalls.

That's the point, though. It wasn't a "good for it's time" scenario, the whole point was they adapted the limitations of the tank controls people were used to into a more freely-controlled (but still limited) movement/camera system based on it that still held you back to make the game challenging and unique.
Bear in mind that most other third-person shooters at this point were either GTA3 clones or platformers and gave you ridiculous levels of control, movement speed and diving actions to ramp up the action. Resident Evil 4 limited your abilities to ramp up tension.

What stuck out to me most about RE4 VR is that the explosions and flame effects are muted, you're actually a lot more nimble in this version since you can strafe, and the clarity of everything takes away from the fright factor (I originally played on GameCube so the pixelization added to the horror effect).

    • @plep1046
      @plep1046 Před 2 lety +9

Whatever fright factor the "clarity" has taken away, is returned 10x by the fact that the enemies are to-scale and you have to manually reload your guns, which may lead to some fumbling.

I think an important thing that should be noted:
If you have a VR-capable PC you can run Oculus AirLink which will allow you to run *any* PCVR game wirelessly. I use it with my Quest 1 to run the game at my desk in my bedroom, but play it in the living room since it about triples the available movement space. Allowed me to experience HL:Alyx, full fat Beat Saber (the quest version is admittedly pretty good) , and several other titles.

@@tarrker I’d say it depends on your needs. If you’re a console gamer, then you can probably just buy the Quest 2 no extra attachments and have a blast. If you’re PC however, you’re gonna need a link cable or a suitable replacement of for SteamVR and the Rift stuff, you’re gonna find issue with the framerate, the resolution isn’t always the best, and especially for games like Alyx you’re gonna need to turn the settings way down especially if you want that 120hz refresh rate. But, as Yhatzee put it, all these gripes are meaningless because the vr kit itself is only 300$ and as I’m sure you’re aware good fucking luck finding anything else even remotely that cheap

Just a heads up, it's not there yet but Zuck did recently announced that at some point in the future you will not be required to login with your FB account. He didn't specify when that'd happen, just that it'll be available sometime within the next year. I bought a Quest 2 back in April and, FB bullshit aside, I absolutely fucking love it. It's a wonderful piece of hardware and absolutely worth the price of admission, especially now that they've retired the 64Gb version and the 128Gb is the entry model. Tons of great stuff to play natively, and it can connect to your PC with a single cable to play Steam VR stuff like Half-Life Alyx (don't get FB's bullshit $80 cable, there are tons of far cheaper and just as good alternatives). It can also stream pc vr games wirelessly, unfortunately it's a bit too laggy and the video quality is fairly poor for it to be useful, but the feature is still in beta so I don't count it as a strike against it.

You can play PCVR with a Quest 2 wirelessly using Air Link or Virtual Desktop if you have a VR Ready PC and an 802.11 AC or 802.11 AX router.
Virtual Desktop is weirdly the better option for most people. It tends to have the edge out of the two.
It is important to note that you need the Virtual Desktop from the Oculus Store, and not the one sold on Steam. They are both from the same dev, but one is for wired PC only headsets like the Index, and the other is intended to stream to the Quest 2.
It's also worth mentioning that even if you don't ever intend to use the Quest 2 with a link cable connection, it is worth it to buy a longer USB C cable, because hooking the Quest 2 up to a PC for stuff like sideloading requires verification in the Quest 2 while it is connected with the cable, and good luck doing that with the cable that comes with it while it is plugged into a PC.
I highly recommend this if your PC can run PCVR and you have a Quest 2. It will run any Steam VR title wirelessly, as well as Oculus App PCVR titles like Lone Echo.
Wireless PCVR is amazing. I have an Index and haven't touched it since wireless VR became a thing on the Quest 2. Wireless easily trumps better controllers.

Don't forget the ability to now dual weild the gun and the knife!!! Also, you can get adapters for the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap. Then an adapter for a power bank to sit on the back of your head. Sure it is buying more stuff, but not needing headphones is great. And hell, I don't usually end up running the power bank, but it is great for all day sessions and it counter balances the front weight of the headset itself.

There was a good FPS game for this system that was on the market place for a week before being taken off. The best $20 I ever spent and now my account is worth $2000 for having this one game.
It is called “Jump N Shoot,” the game literally took 3 hours to calibrate however. Imagine that old Motion Light gun arcade game but focus on jumping as well.
It was taken off the market because of the many customers injuries, apartment noise complaints, seizure lawsuits, and most customers not realizing the tutorial is set up as a calibration system. Way too many people skipped the tutorial even though literally 4 places explained simply to detail reasons to play it.
The game also saying you can jump but you can’t fly. Way too many comments about why the game should enable flying or at least sky driving.

Excited to pick up Existentially Challenged, I really enjoyed Differently Morphous. This basically echoes all of my feelings about RE4 VR. My biggest complaints are that you can't flick the pin off of the Red9 reloader thing with motion controls like you can snap the magnum shut (seriously you already had it programmed in there, just apply it to the Red9!) and that The Mercenaries was not included.
I definitely haven't had enough of this game in VR yet but I've already finished the story twice now (once on each difficulty) and it only gets easier from there in New Game + so I was really looking forward to some Mercenaries to get my fill and it just wasn't there

However, at the time this video was published, Leeds United had only *won* three games in this current season (out of fifteen played so far), so unbelievably the joke actually kinda works!
