As an artist I feel your pain. Some of the colors have such weird names. More than half of my friends can’t pronounce those names. Kaput mordeum became kumquat murder lol. I love it you’re real. My friend loves female form and portraits she’s amazing. Do what YOU love. Alizarin crimson was one of Bob Ross’ favorite reds.

Danie, a few Spring flowers might add another dimension of perspective on the scenic painting... Art flows from within and you've had some significant losses. It's important to simply allow the creative process, without judgement. It simply is what it is.
When you're ready, I'd love to see what you create as a celebration of life for your loved ones. No rush. Take your time.
Thanks for being you. Much love to you and yours.

I can understand why the second painting doesn’t trip your trigger. It’s the height of the sky and the distance of the house that makes the original so fascinating. Something about the last painting you did made me emotional. It was gorgeous and the colors were fabulous. Art is an escape for so many people and you did way better than you think you did. I love how all three pieces came out, they are all unique in their own rights. DEFINITELY don't paint over the house and trees, it's so beautiful.

Love the pears in the kitchen. Over 30 years ago, a friend gave me a color pencil sketch of tomatoes that I’ve hung in my kitchen ever since. Because it’s on a stretched canvas, if you’re not happy with the landscape then paint over it. I find it fascinating how many famous paintings were painted over a previous picture

This was a delight! I love when you interpret diy to be whatever you want it to be. I really enjoyed watching your process! Art is very subjective so it doesn’t matter what I think about what you did. It matters how you feel about what you created. If you want to paint over one of your paintings, do it! If you want to frame your artwork, do it! If you want to keep everything in a bound book for you to look at whenever you want, do it! I appreciate your courage in sharing this with all of us. I hope you will do a video of and about your paintings at the end of this year. That will mean you painted throughout 2023, and that will be wonderful for you!🌸

I think it would be super cool if you painted a "sequel " to your second picture (tiny house), but have it more how you imagined the first one, but also set in a different season. That's a great idea and I might borrow that for my own art practice. If I make something that I'm not a big fan of then I can keep trying different versions of it to see if I can improve on it! And that way it'll make the first one more like a "before" thing instead of something I want to get rid of 💜

Two significant losses in one year has to have your heart bleeding, although your upbeat personality doesn’t show it. I’m so glad you’re embracing your artistic skills on your channel, too. Thanks for sharing what you’ve painted. As for the landscape, I would paint over it and try again with oils. I think the way they blend will give you the moody, vast feeling you’re looking for. The pears came out perfect and your portrait is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

I started painting in acrylics about two years ago and just started working with oils. What helps keep me motivated is to try new things, keep working on a painting until I’m happy with it, have a few projects going at a time- and what I’m currently trying to do is to set myself up for success by creating a dedicated art space so I don’t have to put things completely out of the way when I’m not working, not having my setup accessible can perpetuate procrastination in my art practice. Love the projects!

I share your feeling about acrylics. I learned on them because I took a class in college and we couldn't have volatile compounds in that building (!?) so no oils. They're frustrating and always look so flat, no matter how much slo-dri medium you use. As a result, I've gessoed over probably 80% of my stuff. If you're not happy with the house, paint over it and start over until it makes you smile!

Your relationship with art and your grandma has reminded me of my grandad and his love for art and how that has flowed through to me. One of my favourite paintings I did was of a red rose and then a poem my grandad wrote, written on top which happens to be the same one I read at my brothers wedding. You have re-ignited my passion and I'm sure my grandad is up there smiling down on me as I endeavour to look through all his poems and create paintings based on them. He also owned a plant nursery so I feel painting flowers also makes me feel closer to him ❤️

I agree with you about the perspective of the house painting. What made the composition of the photograph so stark was the size of the house and trees compared to the sky. A tip for the portrait book: Try to diversify the people you draw/paint... I saw a lot of thin, white, conventionally attractive people on your mood board (which I think a lot of people unknowingly gravitate towards, it is very much a deeply ingrained beauty standard in our heads and it is what we usually see in media and art (which is really fucked up but hey - we can evolve from that)).
Venturing outside of that is so much more interesting, makes you a way better artist, changes the way you percieve beauty and the representation means a lot to the people that are usually not often depicted in art. Lots of love ❤️🤗

Keep your 2nd painting! You have such a good start. I think the house is in the perfect place and the right size. It takes me days and sometimes weeks to make a piece of art work. Take with a grain of salt...consider making the foreground a more happy early spring or summer vibe. The sky, house and trees are SO good. Think Spring! New grass growing, baby buds poking thru the ground, small flowers beginning to grow. Follow your gut though. Trust your instincts! You got this, girl!

Never tried painting again. Since picking it up, I’ve amazed myself at how well I’m doing without instruction( although I do watch a lot of CZcams painting videos). I started with family’s and friends’ dogs and worked my way to people and landscapes. I’m having fun and my rules for myself are to try to paint something every day, and to never tell myself that I can’t do something. You, Danie are one talented young lady. I remember when you went to the cabin in the woods to decompress and paint. It was so inspiring to me, now sometimes I do similar getaways to refresh, relax and renew me and get a new perspective on my life. Thank you for always being you and inspiring me to be better💜. I appreciate you
    By the way.....
Weird and kind is the best way to be. Thank you

Love the pears. Your portrait book is an exciting undertaking…the thrill and horror of the first page of a blank book! The house…do what makes you happy. I see what you mean about wanting the house smaller. I haven’t painted in years, but I do dabble in colored pencils…I have been illustrating a hand-written cookbook for my son for years. You have inspired me to get back to it.

On your house painting, I agree. The moment you put the house down on the canvas, I was like “ oh I’d wished she had done more sky”. Maybe something like 85-90 percent sky. Also just my opinion, but something I liked about the picture is almost the softness of colors. More blending in the sky and on the ground, making it less harsh line and more abstract. Love the pears by the way. I think they turned out fantastic! The colors… chefs kiss!
Thanks Daniel, cuz this is my situation exactly. I haven’t been artsy in literally years and all my focus has been home Reno. I need to follow suit!!!

If you want you’re acrylics to ‘stay wet’ and be more ‘moveable’ like oil paints you need to add an acrylic medium (acrylic glazing liquid is a great one) or use heavy bodied acrylic paint. Great effort, loved your last lady! Since you’ve now done a study it’s time for a big one!❤️✨

LOVE the lady at the window, she's gorgeous! I also paint (for some reason I hesitate to call myself an artist) and when I paint a piece I'm not happy with, I paint over it and reuse the canvas. I used to 'save' them for some reason and would stack them behind the canvases that were leaned up against the wall. When I cleaned out my studio I realized I had all this art I was never gonna hang, or sell (and if I painted over them, lots of "new" canvases to use) . So now I just paint over them immediately. I'm looking forward to more art videos from you!

Your interest in painting figures of women reminded me of a long stored comment I read about the William S. Paley art collection. He apparently tended to favor collecting paintings of women sitting in chairs. I just looked it up and seems there are a lot of paintings of sitting women. Whatever that means…
I can certainly understand wanting to change painting venues from workshop to kitchen.Looking forward to seeing your progression and development of your style.
When i watercolor painted I didn’t own a tiny brush. If I were to start again I’d bring one onboard because you inspired me.
And yes paint over your winter house painting and start again. That’s what I would do.
Always fun watching your videos. I see and appreciate ALL the work that goes into your work week+.

I think you're right about the house painting. I love what you made, but your inspiration was so far away that the sky was the subject, and the house was just a bit of detail way in the distance, and I think that's the mood you were going for. Either way, you'll have a beautiful painting in your home. I paint abstract acrylics and then leave them in different places for people to find, which is how I keep my own artistic mental health going.

Most excellent Danie! Congratulations for jumping right back in with both feet. You've done a marvelous job! I believe my favorite is the reclining woman. I think the vibe the acrylic is putting off is kind of harsh, cold and wintery. It's a beautiful picture, but I also agree that the scale could be better. Then again it is beautiful for winter decor.

Love the pears! I think the second painting can be saved if you make the ground warmer, when you had it pure yellow as the base layer it was working better. Water down your acrylic and just do a wash over what you have and that might save it. And the chiaroscuro of the third one was *chefs kiss*

Your portrait of a lady is awesome!! This was my favorite of the three works. So moody. I loved the play of dark and light.
I think you are right about the little house painting. The house is too large and the vastness of the sky is diminished. Don’t get me wrong you are an awesome painter and this is a great first attempt but I challenge you to try again with your initial thoughts.
The pears are perfect in your kitchen. Great capture of their essence.

I was impressed with your self-control at the art store! Love the pears so much. I missed Kenobi, but my cats are not helpful when I am using wet media, so I get it. One tail swipe and Momma's crying. There is not a table in my house that does not have its own paint splash on it. Like pet hair and candles, it is just necessary. I bought a bottle of acrylic flow medium and it helps. It is not unusual to find a paper plate with a damp paper towel covering leftover paint in a plastic bag in the fridge. I enjoyed every moment. My secret is that I art in the near dark, so that I cannot judge myself.

The house painting is gorgeous BUT if it's going to didappoint you somewhere in your soul everytime you lookat it either donate it or do it over. Don't hang it where you can see it if it's going to make you unhappy or dissatisfied every time you see it. I'd be happy to give it wall space... 😁 the pears and the portrait are stunning.
