Golden-breasted Bunting Bird Call Video On The Letaba River Road - Cute Seedeaters Of The World
The Golden-breasted Bunting (Emberiza flaviventris) is one of my favourite seedeaters. Their beautiful call and stunning colours definitely make my heart happy. The Golden-breasted Bunting is easily overlooked in the Kruger National Park. They are quite a common bird, but if you do not drive slowly, or listen for their call, you might never see one. They are often in the presence of other passerines and seedeaters, like the Blue Waxbill and Green-winged Pytilia. They can often be seen, if patient in enough, in great numbers, all together, jumping and moving quickly from branch to branch.
Appearance: The Golden-breasted Bunting is known for its vibrant colours. Males typically have a bright yellow breast, a black and white head, and a striking combination of black, white, and yellow on their wings and back. Females and juveniles are generally duller but still show the characteristic yellow breast.
Diet: Golden-breasted Buntings primarily feed on seeds and grains, but they also eat insects, especially during the breeding season. Their diet may vary depending on the availability of food sources.
Breeding: These buntings are known for their distinctive nesting behaviour. They build cup-shaped nests in low bushes or on the ground, usually well-hidden among vegetation. The female typically lays 2-4 eggs, which she incubates for about two weeks.
This bird call video of the Golden-breasted Bunting was taken on the S47, on the Letaba River Road. We only spotted this beautiful Bunting species because we stopped for a flock of White-crested Helmet-shrikes. In the background of this video you can hear the quirky and chirpy bird call of the Golden-breasted Bunting.
