    Realizing this c clip eliminator setup wont work as planned. Will figure something else out.

      I thin you have to delete the e brakes for them to work. I have 9" ends on mine so I'm not certain.

    I showed my daughter your son working and said, "look, we need to get in the garage and do some work. I started watching A21 when you were 3-4 and his son was a baby" 😂

    I applaud you for all your work, very good job. Do your kid a favor though, when you're welding and he's watching, put a welding jacket on him. The UV's from welding are extremely harmful for him.

    I cut the bolt just past the threads drilled the center of head 1/8". I would screw the bolt back in (as a bushing) and using a long 1/8" bit (flexible enough for any misalignment) I could drill just enough of a hole in the remaining pin that a small easy out will grip & hold long enough to pull the pin out. Even used to do this at Pic A Part LOL. Probably useless since you may never have that problem again but if you do.......... Why didn't the pin spin when drilling? IDK - magic! But always worked. Did a similar narrowing of a 9" diff. for a Camaro project long ago. Great memories!

    The idea is not just to narrow the housing but to eliminate the c-clips and have larger bearings outboard. There are any number of aftermarket housing ends that should work. Borrow a jig, cut off the housing ends, and you'll be happy in the end.

  • @BigMikesGarage

    Nice work. I always use 9 inch ends instead of the c-clip eliminators. Then you can get larger splined axles, and aftermarket disc brake kits work with the 9 inch ends. Tig the tubes to the housing, and build your own brace kit.

    I've seen a lot of 8.8 narrowing videos, but I think this is the first with the giant pipe cutter! Looked like your kid had a matching welding helmet. That's awesome. BTW, is this an Explorer rear?

    I never understand people not using a guard on the grinder. I've burned up at least ten grinders in my life and most has been using cutoff disks. I've always used the gaurd and never really felt hindered by it. I have also at one point made contact with a finger and cut halfway through it. That little blade is mercilous and eventually it's going to get ya!

    • @funfun8095
      @funfun8095 Před 3 měsíci

      I have 7 grinders, only 1 still has the guard. I always use thick leather gloves. Haven't cut through them, yet, in 20+ years.
      I guess it depends on your skill.

    I wonder if you could lathe a precision piece of pipe to fit inside the axle tube to help align? Pre-drill plug weld holes as needed to secure the internal coupler then fully weld the union. Just thinking out loud… 🤔

    • @jagharingenyoutube
      @jagharingenyoutube Před 3 měsíci

      The "correct" way is to buy/make some guides that fit in the center and end bearing locations and a long axle through it all. The axle tubes are almost always a litte bit crooked in the center so just lining them up like he did doesnt make them straight

    • @HeadFlowInc

      @@jagharingenyoutube Axle jig, I’ve seen them. I used the same angle iron method when we narrowed my Explorer 8.8, axle turns smoothly no binding. There’s a video/s on my channel showing the process.
      I’m very curious if Ryan found c-clip eliminators for the large bearing and tube Explorer 8.8… we were told our disc brakes will hold the axle but it’s not track legal. Also when we looked the only option was convert the housing to Ford 9” ends… 🤔

    Are you left or right handed? And what way do you skate? I'm right handed, goofy footed, and I tig weld like you, but I've been told usually you hold the torch with your dominant hand, I don't.

    • @BlaserBuilds
      @BlaserBuilds  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Haha, hard question. Here we go.
      I write left handed
      Hold torch left hand
      Shoot pews left
      Shoot bow right(left eye dominant)
      Throw right
      Kick right
      Jump of left foot
      Skate goofy
      Naturally push Mongo(left), but learned to push with right.
      Eat left, but cut with left so eat right when cutting something like steak.
      Trans brake left, bump right, lol.
