The CompTIA Security+ remains one of the most popular cyber security certs you can get in the world. The way the Security+ is marketed can let newcomers believe its is there ticket to a cyber security job. Now in certain industries Security+ can be what you need to get a role but in most industries it's not. There are a ton of people who have this cert but they cannot find a job. #cybersecurity #comptia #security

Nothing in life is guaranteed. If you're fortunate enough to learn this early in childhood then you'll be better at dealing with reality when you enter the workforce, and that includes IT.
The desperate people don’t realize this
Unfortunately this is true.
If you want in on government positions, Security+ is a great IAT II certification to get you into an introductory IT position
To me personally any CompTIA certs should have a good entry level position to cybersecurity but, just like college degrees, nothing is even guaranteed. You need those two, plus your experience via labs, networking to show what you've done so far.
I’m a WGU student working on MS: Cybersecurity & Information Assurance. I’m taking a term break to focus on getting a security + because I’ll be separating in a year. I already have a BS degree in Cybersecurity but no CompTIA Cert for now. I plan to pair that up with a degree to get an entry level role to work my way up. I get soo much conflicting information stating that degrees don’t matter when it comes to getting your foot in the door, now I’m getting from this vid that Certs aren’t enough. I just hope that I’m moving in the right direction. Wish me luck 🙏🏾.
Are you in the military?
@@TechTualChatter yes
Degree will help get you that interview not job vs someone not having one .
Using pure common sense and thinking literally only a cert/s will get you a job is foolish. Hell I'm in WGU currently with 3 classes left and Pentest+ is the last cert I'm getting within the degree and I knew years back just getting a cert wasn't true and isn't now with all the rejections or ghosting I've received. Build them labs up, don't play yourself with just getting certs and also backdoor your way in with other skills you may have built over the years from other fields.
Solid advice right here
I 100% agree with the backdoor approach. Get in the door, show the company that you’re ambitious about advancing your skills, and work your way into cross-training for the role you want.
I’ll still die on this hill… the sec+ is NOT even a professional cybersecurity cert…it’s a general IT certs around fundamentals of security
Yeah you got a point there
Btw still need ya in Dallas bro haha
@@TechTualChatter I need to be, let me make sure to make it happen
@hdmaragh say less
What certs would you recommend that are industry-recognized and provide a solid foundation for those who are just entering into the field?
Damn so what the hell do we do then??
Exactly!
Wow nice short video dropping knowledge especially the clearance info and also sad to hear Sec + isn't enough to get a job and yes I hate how it's pushed so hard. I just got mines May 28th and currently studing soc shifts. Proofpoint, Sentielone and this week we finished Crowdstrike and next is Qradar and then the last is Splunk all within a week and lots of practice investingating tickets etc..
Anyway great content and when the truth hurts wooo it hurts and yes experience is key and I wish nothing for the best for EVERYONE.

Thanks bro 💪🏽💪🏽you’re learning some good info there too
@TechTualChatter oh cool Thank you that motivates even more. 🙏🏾👍🏾
When I hear this it automatically makes me feel hopeless. It’s like WHERE DO I START?! Can I get an honest blueprint?
Check out the page you may find one 😉
Love your content is cybersecurity still a good field to enter. In security plus a good place to start.
I went the gov sec route. 2 months after getting Sec+ I landed a position as a sys admin. Now I'm a SOC analyst with Sec+ and CySA+
What was your degree in?
What was your degree in?
@zakmuhammad9499 national cyber-security studies
It was enough for me. As well for many other people. But it also depends on the rest of your background and work history.
Keywords background and work history
Given this tough situation of getting hired in cybersecurity despite having several certs then where does this hyper of huge gap come from?
Obviously there's something wrong in the chain but here's my honest opinion, there should be a database exposing all the qualified professional who are jobseekers with their skills, experience and certs. That way both the Faang and the Gov subcontractors recruiters would be respectfully challenged to choice their potential interviewee from period. This way will reduce the ongoing anxiety and I believe the Govt needs to come out more to enforce the skilled based hiring policy in the industry.
Because the thinking of certs automatically qualify someone is where the bigger issue lies
The audio needs some fixing
First I want to say thank you for the realistic advice. I know there a lot of individuals that will tell you get security + and you can get in or you don’t need a cert at all to get in. If this case is true then what do you need to land a cybersecurity job.
💪🏽💪🏽
Nope. It took me about 4-5 months to land a job after I got laid off and I had net+ and sec+, almost 2 years of experience. I ended up at the service desk 😞. It was like starting from the bottom again but at least they sponsored my clearance. I’m thinking about applying for a junior CyberSecurity analyst position my job posted but ive only been with the company 2 months and a clearance isn’t required for the position 😬.
Company won’t let you move in 2 months. If you really want to get on blue team check out my community tab. I specialize in helping people move up from
Helpdesk
I’m currently trying to do some practicing and projects for auditing Do you have a links or recommendations I can do to help my skill in auditing?
Unfortunately in don’t
If just trying to break in, it seems better to have it than not
This video isn’t to tell you not to get it. It’s too let you know it takes more
I am easily 1 of the most anti Comptia people you will ever meet. I do give some credit to the Sec+ because much of security is about theory and concept of applying security. I try to tell people Sec+ is a "complimentary" cert. But it does not prepare you with any tangible skills to get a job.
The government/DoD and now higher education are the ones that have built up and kept Comptia in business. People praise the Sec+ because the government requires it. This however is also the same government that will spend $500 on a hammer just to maintain a budget. They make policy based on politics not valid technical reasons.
These schools push comptia certifications because they are general knowledge certs. Essentially pairing a basic associates degree with a bunch of pretty much useless certs. Because the concept of higher education is broken and dying. So they need to push out something to keep up with the times.
And as a former DoD contractor and military intel person. Yes credit matters in the security clearance purpose because it makes someone a target for bribery.
Yup I think a couple of years ago I realized everything has its purpose and place in this cycle
I'm only going for Security+ now because all job requirements I'm running into that I may qualify for have Security+ as a req... This will not guarantee me anything still as I have to know the whole human library knowledge from A-Z like I'm some sort of AI robot, before anyone cares to look at me for an interview.
So what are the better certs she was speaking of?
Watch here

You think its best to get the comptia A+ first or security+? Im trying to be in cybersecurity but some say start with A+ first but what you think is best?
Where in cyber are you trying to go? And if you don't have foundational knowledge of how a computer works then yeah get your A+, or at least watch the videos and skim through the book. You need a solid foundation before you can build! Learn Everything Lab Everyday!
@tahntalus how can one start building labs ??
What certs were you talking about that are better than the sec + ????
This right here, they all criticized this cert but provided zero alternatives.
@@Incognitoblue
What cert?
Would a recent bankruptcy keep you out of the cyber security field?
Idk it shouldn’t
Is security Plus a good place to start. Sorry for the typo.
Yes it is
If it’s not solely security plus, what other certifications do you all recommend to someone who’s looking to get into this field?
@@kboogie617 check out the channel
I have some of these answered already

@@kboogie617 💪🏽💪🏽 I have some good video topics coming up pretty soon as well
Hell no. I’m an IT recruiter. You’ll need projects on your resume or like a CISSP.
What you should do is lie on your resume and say you’re attending a community college for IT+ sec+ AND some type of cloud architecture/devops cert. that may get you an entry level job if your in a decent sized city
I don’t believe you lol
Sounds good. Mention that to the corporations that customize their ATS to search for these CompTIA and ISC2 certs. There has to be a more equitable way to validate one’s education and experiences, that’s the only way we can stop things like this from happening.
There is an equitable way
It’s called interviewing
How’s it equitable if the only way to get an interview in this job market is to get a degree? Especially when it’s so erroneously preached that one can get a job in cybersecurity (Tech) without a degree?
@@devonmurdock2312 that’s 100% there are no absolutes in the job search
@@TechTualChatter true, but what is absolute is every business having HR copy and paste these template requirements and using AI to filter out the people with the needed expertise. Interviews don’t mean anything if my first impression falls short with the ATS. CompTIA may or may not be the best certifying body, but it’s what is “industry standard”. What can be done to shift the current paradigm?
@@devonmurdock2312 that’s not how this works … go talk to multiple tech recruiters and stop believing everything you see on here
Nope, nope, nope. It's a good entry cert cuz you got entry level exposure to a bunch of domains, but it doesn't guarantee a thing.
No
Absolutely not
No. Lol
No it will not. Be prepared to get creative and/or put in work.
It usually helps w a clearance and an additional cert.
When you realize how easy it is to keep and renew y’all will see the correlation 😂
Good luck yall❤
Nope

Was the point of the video just to dog CompTIA? Because none of you provided alternatives!
