When something is “cheap”, I perceive it as low price and low quality. When something is good quality and a good low price, I like the term “inexpensive”.
Or ‘good value for the money”, is how I like to define it.
"a good deal"
Affordable
It's cheap until I test it!
Radar - a brand of Omni United, based in Singapore, manufactures in China, Indonesia, Thailand, India
Nexen - South Korea company, some products made in China
Venom Power - a brand of Transamerica Tire, made in China
Ironman - associate brand of Hercules Tire, which is owned by American Tire Distributors (ATD), US and China manufacturing
Kanati - division of Greenball Corporation, imported
I don’t know if anyone mentioned General’s, my brother had a set and was very happy with them, so when it was time to put a new set on my Wrangler I grabbed a set of the Grabber ATX LT285/70/R17, I had them out in the woods several times summer and fall off in New England and they are awesome, also great in the snow, they are very quiet and smooth on the road, I commute 45 minutes each way to work and couldn’t be happier, and the price was right.
as a previous cheap tire buyer I say do not cheap out on them lol ive learned my lesson 2 many times to count
Sounds like you "don't have much information" on ANY of the tires.... Mightve been something to look into, especially if you're going to BRING IT UP😂
Exactly what i was thinking the whole time i been in the tire business for over 25 yrs and i can tell you the main brands that get bought these days are cheap cause people usually dont keep their cars long enough to know the difference. As well as they dont know anything about it and neither do 80% or better of the tire shops out there its just rubber to them and money.
I’d like to see some performance metrics to compare the various tiers out there. Wet, dry and dirt traction testing would be cool in determining if a less expensive tire is worth it.
@Pavlo Kasperskyi definitely true as well. I recall some other video showing puncture resistance tests for various AT tires. That’d be cool to see for the different tire pricepoints.
I'm sure that if YT channel "Project Farm" ran testing, you would get whatever answer you were wondering about.
The guy tests products WAY BETTER than any Consumer Report would.
There is sacrifice of threadwear for grip or durability
@@nemesis851_ That guy is great at what he does..
The better "expensive" tires usually have more silicon in them for better wet stopping and grip.
However, they get destroyed real quick in rocky situations, where a cheaper one with less silicon will hold up. Expensive isnt always better.
It really depends on your driving habits...
King of budget tires, tier 3, is the Kenda, they are awesome. King of moderate/middle price or tier 2 is the Yokohama. Both of these brands are awesome quality. Had Kenda's (Klever) and they were great, I could not get a set again when I needed them due to supply issues so I got the Yokohama Geolander MT and they are great as well.
Funny you mention that - the Klever RT and the Geolandar MT's are two of my top options for new tires right now. I would also venture that quality can vary significantly even in "Tier 1" brands as a lot of the Toyota, Jeep, and overland/off-road forums are FULL of people that have in the last few years had perpetual balancing, premature treadwear, tread/sidewall durability, and other quality issues with even the super popular "Tier 1" brands.
That Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 is the tire I'm really thinking about buying for my 08 Sequoia Limited 5.7L (275-65-18) from all the reviews I've been looking at it really seems like the best overall tire for the price and the rain and snow, what are your thoughts???
One thing to keep in mind is sometimes a tire company will be cheap just to get them out and bought. If a new company starts out they will be cheaper than a big brand. Word of mouth is the best advertising!
I've ran the Kanati Mud Hawgs on a Grand Cherokee in all manner of situations. I loved them, and was impressed by their snow and ice performance.
i had nexen AT tires on my old truck and they handled very impressively during the snow last year
We run Ironman tires on part of our fleet of semi's, both tractor and trailers with absolutely no issues or complaints.
Tires are usually not where I would want to go cheap on.
Very true...
I used to buy cheapest tires I could afford when I was in college. And found out that the car wouldn't stop or accelerate as hard when I really needed to. You get what you paid for.
Yeah most of the time we do,the cheaper ones definitely sacrifice something when their being made...
I have Radar Renegade AT and they do wonderfully! Plenty of tread left after 30K on them. Next set will be the Trail Hogs. Finally a video covering the inexpensive, but quality tires. Thanks.
Nice was looking for something from someone who actually owned them before getting a set of the renegade RT. If the at is good rt should be too thanks
@@vincentmeredith2561 I have read mixed reviews about the RT's. My AT5's do wonderfully in most conditions. Deep mud is the only thing I haven't gone through.
When it comes to your car don’t go cheap but you don’t have to go top dollar either
Exactly just do the research and from my research I'm leaning towards the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 for the price they really seem to be the best overall rain and snow performing tire,im still thinking about Falken Wildpeak AT3W for my Sequoia Limited 5.7L 275-65-18 here in New Jersey...
I had the khumo road venture AT51 on a 2wd chevy astro. Did a 16000km canadian road trip in all sorts of conditions/weather and they never let me down. I really love them.
Did you hit any ice?
I run too many 4x4s, I've actually had better luck with the cheaper brands. Including traction performance.
I was going to buy some cheaper atturo tires before for my Suv but because I didn't know this brand I went for some Yokohamas instead.
Then again I have learned the hard way never cheap out on tires (lesson definitely learned)
Falken wildpeaks are the best tires I’ve ever used. Couldn’t be happier with them on my 4runner. Great in all conditions I’ve put them through and also great on road driving.
I heard really great things about those tires but I'm leaning towards the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 for the price they really seem pretty comparable for my Sequoia Limited 5.7L 275-65-18 here in New Jersey,I just want a real good rain and snow tire...
Leao Lion sport MT. I have. Set of 35s 10 ply on my lifted ram. They are fantastic so far. I've had them for about 10k so far. They have held up very well. I'd buy them again.
I’d put a set of fallen wild peak at3w against any other all terrain tire out there. Six trucks in a sheet of ice and my truck with AT3w and one other truck got through the pass and he had KO2s.
I was really thinking about buying the Falken Wildpeak AT3W but that Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 and for the price seems pretty comparable to the Falken,im still deciding,I have a Sequoia Limited 5.7L 275-65-18 here in New Jersey and I just need a really good rain and snow tire that's pretty quiet...
What are the widest tires I can safely put on the stock 17×7.5 rims for my 2020 Gladiator Sport?
I had ironman all country mt on my 3900 lb wrangler for about 15k miles. Loved the traction in everything from rain to snow to mud or sand. My downfall was that I couldn't get them to balance. On a 100% offroad vehicle I think it would be fine, but wisconsin has too many roads to get to anywhere to offroad. Based off those tires, I would be willing to buy the actual bfg km3.
I love my 35x10.5 Kenda Klever R/T ‘s. Over $100 a tire less expensive than the 33” BFG KO2’s they replaced. I consider them superior.
I have the Kanati Trailhog on my 07 Duramax. They look awesome, were easy to mount, balanced well, and seem to be wearing well. I primarily bought them for their snow performance, but they have done well in a muddy field checking horses as well. The only "bad" thing I have to say about them is that they feel a little softer on a heavy truck (compared to the Kumhos I had on before), so they feel slightly less stable. They do NOT feel unsafe by any means. I would like to see how they do on my Jeep, and I may buy them as the next set of tires for it.
I wouldn't call the Kanati a "non brand" I've got them and love them! One tire I wish they'd bring back is the Trail Diggers. They were just some bad ass tires. I had them on my 07 XK. I put 62k on them and they went with the Jeep when I sold it. They still had tread left.
Yeah Kanati's are Greenball tire company, been around for a long time
Thundered MT got them last year and I daily my vehicle put about 15,000 miles on them and they've only dropped 2/32 of tread. They're great offroad and are okay on road. I don't mind the hum from the tires.
I've had toyo, Goodyear and nitto.. I've tried out Kanati mud Hogs and love them. Lasted longer than the brand tires without chunking and very quiet on street. Staying with Kanati MTs and might try the trail hog soon also.
Probably one of my favorite budget friendly tire is the federal couragia MT. They pull really good off road and handle well on road. They dont last as long as a toyo or Nitto but for the money it’s a great choice IMO
I put a set of kenda klever at on my truck and really like them. Was gonna get the rt but decided on the at.
I saw a dually ford with a lift kit & 17 or bigger rims
He was running a tire that looked like a miniature version of a semi (tractor trailer? ) where would I get these or better yet what would I call them ??
They are becoming more mainstream now but I have been running Cooper tires for many years. I first started with their Mud-Terrain tires but I am currently running their hybrid ST/Maxx Tire on my Jeep. They have always performed for me and honestly I think are a much better tire than something like a Nitto or BFG.
One down fall of less expensive tires is size availability, both wheel size and height. One nice thing, sometimes made by major brand name manufacturers, just have less expensive name on sidewall.
True that. I would go for cheaper ones that have a good rep but they never have a 275-70-17 Load range C. Sometimes they don’t even have 275-70-17 at all but the ones that do only have it in load range E. I can do E but not really necessary for me with my Toyota 4Runner.
@@andyham6094 add about 3000 lbs of body armor, then E rated might work . LOL
It won't matter once the rubber shortages start
I have the venom power. Good tire. I have Dirt commanders and they are awesome in the mud and snow.
Cheap tires last longer...that's the difference. Toyo M/T vs Federal Couragia...no contest.
I’ve got 29K on my Venom power Terra hunter XT and love them will be buying another set they are a true 12.50 wide tire
Only 2K mi on mine, but like 'em so far on my 3/4T Chev (245/75/16LT, 10P) w/camper & pulling jeep on a trailer. Tread pattern very similar to the classic BFG. Minimal squirm, good in wet, quiet on high way, throw gravel off pavement.
I just bought a second set of wheels & tires through these guys. I bought Radar Renegade RT Plus 37x12.50R17LT with 17X9 -12, for my Duramax Crew Cab. The idea 💡 is to have a second set of tires for when I am not towing the 42' Hauler. So, I went with the cheaper tire. This channel is mainly for information to promote sales but, once you do business with them get ready for the call back to push ceramic coating on the rims and internal pressure gages for your setup. Marking that you don't need this is not enough, they feel compelled to give you more information about items they feel you should purchase form them. I had to explain to them I have a air pressure monitoring system for the for all 10 wheels for both the three axles on the trailer and the truck. We will see the end result of this business transaction.
I'm running the Pro comp xtreme mt2 tries on my jeep wangler. I wonder if this would fall into this the cheaper tire range.
no lol
I'm planning to buy atturo xt 305/45r22 for my infiniti qx80 as my next set of tires
Great video! Thanks for going through these options! With the rising prices, we need options!
I bought a set of Venom Power all terrain for my 19 Rubicon,I’ve got 7k on them and have no issues at all!
Of course you haven't had a problem they are just starting to break in.
@@1969darr LOL
what brand u recommended.i need 33×12.5×20 for dodge ram 1500.cheap and good reviews.
I've bought name brand tires. I can say they don't always preform as desired under all conditions. I had Toyo's on my pick up , they sucked great mileage tire, sucked on snow and mud. Now Hankook Dynapro MT2's work fantastic on my JL Wrangler in mud and snow.
well if you spend most your time at offroad, ling long crosswind series is kinda good for the low than tier 3 tires. its copying bridgestone dueler tire design but the ling long one has stronger and stiffer sidewall than the dueler one
The issue is that in the real world, I've tested "cheap" tires that have smoked "name brand" tires in almost every category. Wear, traction, balancing, ruggedness, etc. I think that the Ford/Firestone debacle in the 1990s really lit a fire under tire manfacturers to produce quality tires. It's hard to buy junk these days. But, it is very interesting when a cheap tire outperforms an expensive one. For example, the Milestar Patagonia M/T beats the piss out of the Nitto Ridge Grappler or Trail Grappler.
What happened with ford and Firestone
I've got ironman RB SUV love run year they are agreat tire in ice and snow just bought my second set l have 2011 chevy equinox all wheel drive great tire and quite on dry roads love these tires better than any michellin
Love my Kenda Klever At2's...Huge upgrade from the Goodyears.
I have the Klever at2 as well. Best a/t tires I have ever owned ESPECIALLY in the rain and snow.
Reminds me of the Wildpeaks.
Love my Kendas (Klever) Skinny 35s ftw.
@@jeremy8715 I person the Kenda Klever A/T2's look more like the Goodyear duratrack. The Klever A/T2 is more aggressive then the wildpeaks.
The last two sets of good years that I've had were shit. I will never buy another set of good year tires. I started buying the less expensive Hercules tires and could't be happier.
I had some "cheap" Hankook ATM3s that were awesome in the snow. I had some "Tier 1" Goodyears that sucked. In fact, I have had nothing but horrible experience with all the Goodyears in my 40+ years of driving... from mid-80s "Gatorslicks" on a Mustang to the super-cupping Duratracs on my Jeep. That's just my experience, but if I had to choose between those two its Hankook all day every day! BTW - I have Nitto Ridge Graps on my Jeep now and love them too.
All I've really had was goodyear and they never let me down. I live up north. I've had cheap Walmart goodyear on my car and never got stuck in snow or in heavy rain, that I can barely see over my hood. I have blizzaks on car now and have been stuck from tires off the ground but little push and tires grab snow and easily un stuck.
I'm looking to get bigger wheels for my Ford F150 and the tires I'm looking at are either the Road One or Pinnacle Atheon MTX tires. There aren't really any info on the Road One's because they keep talking about the Calvary MT tires and I can't find anything at all on the Pinnacle tires. These tires both have the same tread pattern and I just wan tot see some reviews on how they ride. I use my truck as a daily driver and hardly any off roading but I love the aggressive look from hybrid tires.
Any information on them would be great.
I don't know why you aren't familiar with Nexen. It is 3rd largest tires manufacturer in South Korea (behind Hankook and Kumho) and maybe most affordable among them. And they offer good value for money, really chinese price and Korean quality. Personally I use Laufenn all terrain, that is Hankook budget subbrand manufactured in Indonesia. Good price, good quality and they are common in Ukraine. Because when you have only one set of 4 tires available on the market, buy them and than damage one of them, where do you'll get a spare one. So in my opinion you should consider tires also considering their availability too. If you buy MT for offroading use only, you could go with cheapest ones, but if you need good onroad behavior, you'll better make some research. Sometimes cheap tyre could basically tears apart under tought loading and cornering
Great points! Definitely something we can consider for future videos!
sailun one of the best cheap tyres out there.... highly recommend
Heard KO2s on the rain are no good. Is this true ?
I have a Suzuki Samurai 88 and I got some coopers that are meaty 235/65/15 had to cut part of the front bumper so it didn't rub😂
The things we do sometimes😂😂😂😂😂
I have Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires on my truck.
Happy with my kumo 38x15.50
i love my Radar Renegade RT+
Good job brother
Hercules tires are awesome and affordable. I've had the AT ( Nitto Terra Grappler like) tires and the more street friendly (Michelin like) tires. Both I liked very much on two different f150's. Great traction and longevity on both styles. Check em' out!
Specialty tires such as AT MT XT and then the sports car tires which i know nothing about are very difficult to judge based on longevity and or price its their durability and strengths that make them valuable or their specific situations. Been in the tire business over 25 yrs and i know very little in comparison to all the brand names that come and go daily. But i know from the fleets of pickups and vans and rigs weve done over the years Brand and Brand Construction is much more important than price theres a reason a lot of newer tires go out sell a bunch then change their names or you cant get them anymore for whatever. Buy they tire that fits the use more important imho price is when you find the type you neeed and your using price to be the tie breaker.
Comforcer MT tires (from China I believe) get ripped up on rocks like no one's buisness. The rubber mix is VERY soft. They are very very cheap so I'm not surprised. I've put about 3000km on mine and about 100km of that was offroad on sand, mud, and rocks. In the rocks I was ripping off chunks at an alarming rate. I bet I'll get 6months out of these tires maximum.
Happy with my iron man all countrys 20000 miles hade worn on my jeep highway driving work vechile
Mickey Ts and Toyo Should be numero uno class or were they rated above T1?
Mickeys are made in the Cooper plants and they are definitely not as good as Toyo / Nitto. Cooper, like BFG, need to upgrade their technology.
Aptany 35 1250 20. Going on 4yrs. Even wear. Not noisy. Pretty good tire
What about Haida? I love the Haida 878 RT and they’re super cheap
Great video. Grammatically it's "Less Expensive" not "lesser expensive". Liked the video overall.
I Used Cosmo Mud kicker there great tires
Iv made the mistake and thought I'd get a "budget" tire they were the centennial dirt commander. The caused premature bearing failure by never being able to balance. Couldn't go past 65 on the freeway. And had a blow out with only 475 miles.. they were supposed to be f load. I spent 1100 on 5 tires. I got them off after I saved back up for the toyo m/t. Had them for 30,000 and still another 20 k left. DONT BUY CHEAP!!!!!!
WOW.. .
Yeah, they pass safety on day 1 by the time you are out on a road trip with your family who knows.
I'm running the Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP and I think they are a low 2 or high 3 tier tire. They have done pretty well on all surfaces but they do need a bit more skinny pedal to clear out the really sticky mud and they are fairly loud with wear. I've managed 55k miles out of them and I fully expect them to make it to 70k before I get to the wear bars. Just thought I would throw my experience out there in case someone was looking into these.
I run these currently on my Tacoma and they have been great so far. Probably around 15k miles on them so far.
@@jkroemer2685 mine were good but bad shocks for too long led to cupping on the outer edges so I took them off at 62k. I'm running Kenda Klever RTs now. Seem to clean out a lot better but they are a bit more noisy on the road.
@@codyprevatte8285 ahhh good to know. Getting ready to replace the suspension here soon and new leaf packs. I was looking at the Kenda RT but unfortunately don't make them in a size I'm looking for 🙄
I just got Cepek EXP's on run-out, just a little more expensive than the Kenda's, which were my second choice.
Just don't buy BFG they changed their compound and they don't wear like they use too...
When you say the word "CHEAP" that is what people hear! I use the word "AFFORDABLE" and people listen !
Pretty much the truth...
I have the Kenda RT, I love them mine are 35x12.5R22, they look aggressive and drive really well
I had those same tires for 1 week. I traded them in fur the Nitto Ridge grappler. $800 difference Andi regretted the decision from day one! The run narrow and no wheel protection.
I run kenda klever A/T2
TOYO Open Country for the win!
I’m happy with my trail hogs too. I would buy another set.
I agree, very happy, but 4 years of moderate mountain roads and its time to replace them . So Kinati Trail Hogs again . The trail Hogs on my Gen 3 ram 3500 climbed up into the Ruby Mnts and BlackTails as well as the Belt mountains in Montana chasing Elk and Deer. kept my truck safe in Snow and Ice, mud and loose gravel too Wet roadways.
@@davidnice9216 how many miles did you get on them?
Why isn't there a mileage warranty, that makes me really skeptical???
Radar and Nexen tread designs are mostly identical, due to China's lack of enforcing any patent claims, but Nexen is it's own company, and therefore a "major" label. Radar is an Omni private label. Ironman is a Cooper private label. Kenati is a Greenball private label brand. And Venom Power? You're on your own.
That last part,lol ..
Can you tell me if kenda or crossmax tires better ?
I would go with Kenda! The Kleaver is an incredible tire that holds its own!

Run on radar rt+ mow better than my nitto imo
2nd to that
At 3:58 did you say 'Goodwrench' instead of 'Goodrich'?
I look at warranty mileage. Currently might change if i switch to a M/T
Also typically if you aren’t spending alot of money on something you complain less when it doesn’t perform. Just because you sell alot of something doesn’t mean its good.
Why don't some budget tires have a mileage warranty???

I hear alot of good reviews on the Radar Renegades but no reviews on thd Renegade X..I dont mind running the "cheap" tires as I ferl it all to be a bit of a crap shoot..I put Antares Deep Diggers (cheap) on my H2 and three years later with only about 5,000km the side walls and between the treads are cracking..put the same tire on my H3 daily driver, for four years and not as much cracking..I had Interco TrXus (not cheap, didnt wear well and one bead completely separated from the sidewall after three years of light summer driving..contact Interco and they basically told me to fuk off..

Most of those are around $200+ per tire. Not what I call cheap.
Cheap mud tires are good. But it's not as good as the expensive tire like bfg km3s, Toyo open country mts, ..
The government also regulates gas cans and they definitely aren’t more safe now lol
If I could give you 100 thumbs up I would because this is so very true
What about Iron man tires
Tried some Chinese brands lately....... Tried Linglong, worked fine, tried Nangkang, they're commendable....... Radar having good wear and grip on road........
Now about to try Triangle next time
What about Hercules tires ?
I will check into them for you!
maxxis razr mt are very good as well as maxxis razr at run them both

They were on my classic c10 . Garaged and just a summer occasional driver. Car shows, cruising. Not a daily driver. Passed on to another person doing the same.
@@rockyp544 Oh ok thanks ...
We cannot afford branded tires so i use west lake tires it goes 60k 3 yers
Maybe you forgot the debacle of the 1990s Chinese tires that came into the country with no gum rubber around the steel belts (uncalendared). They were imported by a company in northern NJ, and when they started failing the US government demanded that they do a recall. So when the importer went back to the manufacturer, he was told they would NOT honor the recall, basically driving him out of business. So, like every other Chinese product, you're never sure what the quality is going to be. The US government doesn't actually do the testing, they "require" the manufacturer to do it to their standards.
A note on private label tires: The manufacturer making the private label tires usually does not use the latest and best technology they put into their name brand, because they want an edge, making the tire worth more. And lesser brands don't usually wear as well as name brands.

You should just be honest brotha and tell the truth. . . .. . . Don't buy cheap tires guy, especially if you really plan to go any offloading.. period!
I loved my ironman all country mt in every manner except the fact that they wouldn't balance. They'd be the perfect offroad tire in my opinion if I never had to hit the road to get to trails.
Hog wash you can say that and the Government can say that, but I have been in the tire and mechanical service business for 40+ years now. I have seen everything from split rims, widow makers, Bias Ply L/60-15, to radials and so on so forth. The cheap Chinese tires you have to be very careful because some will last half to three quarters of the top money Michelin tires will, but some tires like the BF Goodrich tires are not as good as they once was. Now that Michelin has bought up some companies they are not as good as they once was and some of the other brands like Nitto or Falken are good as you said they have to be researched and the reviews are having to be gone through and you can tell by the way they are written if they know what they are talking about. A 50k rated foreign tire will usually last about 20-35 k depending on the speed rating and ply. Air pressure and alignment is paramount for life of a tire.
Running Dick Cepek tires. They are cheaper tires that seem to give good results. I don't see any advertising for them and they ran me less than most name brand tires
