Check the number on the box. If it says 2405A-2408A, it has the non-backlit remote without the live tv button. If it says 2409A or higher, it has the backlit remote with live tv button. I was able to pick up one that had 2410A at my local Walmart. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a way to tell what you’re getting if you order on line.

Ordered two on line and both was the 2408A and no backlight remote, no way of knowing. I will be returning because the draw for me is the backlight.
No, just return it for a replacement if you want to backlight remote. Wal-Mart’s return policy is overly generous.
Yes, but I hear that replacements are hard to get now, because it's selling well. I almost returned one because it didn't have the app I wanted (sideloaded it later). No replacements available.
They should have shown the remote on the box itself to avoid confusion.
For myself, I don't feel slighted because the back lit button is going shorten your BATTERY anyway!!!!

Always good to have the option tho, I rarely use the feature but it really is a nice to have.
The LED is so weak can't see it unless you're in the dark room. It also lit for maybe a second or 2. I doubt it'll impact the battery life too much.
Not at all. Have a backlit remote for another device and unless it is dark, it doesn’t really help. Besides, Walmart will eventually market replacement remotes with and without the light.
I mean, the difference in battery life will probably not be noticeable but i have the new one and the giant FREE TV button is dumb as shit and ugly.
I got the backlit remote, so I get to look forward to shorter battery life and a huge button labeled FREE TV which I will never ever press... kinda wish I had gotten the remote you got.

Thats actually cool, I can see people being happy about getting a little more value in the form of a discount instead. Backlit is nice to have but its not mandatory for most people either.

I got the non-backlit remote and I'm fine with it. I'm just happy I was finally able to get a hold of the damn box.
I got a non-backlit remote with out the big blue Live TV button, but what nobody talks about is the remote without the big blue Live TV button has a small TV button to the right of the Home button that I believe does the same thing as the big blue button.
Anyone know if the Pro is going to sell through Amazon? They currently have the non-Pro Android TV unit for sale.
I was actually relieved to see that I didn't get the big blue button that I wouldn't have used. I dropped Fire Stick because the VRP remote was too awkward. Backlighting is nice, but I don't see it as THAT big of a deal.

The ONN 4K PRO is the main reason for making the purchase. A minor difference shouldn't be that big of a deal! I would not say that "Did Walmart screw you over."
Yeah bummer, bought one yesterday, no backlight! Not the end of the world though. I just hope this doesn't have remote disconnection defect their old device had.

You need to look for the manufacturer date of 2409A or later under the serial number bar code. These are the units that start shipping with the new backlite remote!
Mine came without backlit remote.
The only problem I found with this box is that the Xfinity stream app is not compatible. I remember you had one in the past will you be doing a review about that for this?

I just got one today, and it apparently came with a backlight remote, although I wasn't expecting one, so some of this info is new to me. Also for a while the Walmart site said it wasn't in my store, so, couldn't do delivery from store. I pretty much got it for the increased storage, RAM, built in Ethernet, and WiFi 6. I was curious how it compared to the Shield as a newer device for general use.
So far happy with the performance of the box. Had to mute my nest audio speaker though, didn't expect them to fight to respond. I thought Google had made their speakers smart like Amazon has where the closest device would be the one to respond. Anyway with all things considered, everything has gone well for me with this one.
The backlit is nice, but u wont c it during the day. Also, u need to press it to have the light on anyway.

I was in the same situation. I purchased early and got the early remote. Why it's not a big deal, it's a poor way to do business..

i stopped in to a local walmart to check out the 4k onn. i had the guy unlock the display case and i checked the code on EVERY box (for specifically 2409A, 2411A, and 2412A). i didn't find it so i didn't buy a box. i did put everything neatly back in the case, though.

I received the one with no "free TV" button but really don't mind. Like others have said, I'll never use that button and the backlighting is a battery hog.
I actually prefer using the Fire TV remote with the Onn 4K Pro. Much easier for me, thanks to the Play, Fast Forward, and Rewind buttons.
Oh also, the on box seems not to shut the t. V off it only shuts the box off. So, you can't compare it too. The echo TV box. Or did I do something wrong with the setup? I have an old insignia. I clicked the insignia t. V. And it still don't shut the t v off just the google on box help

Honestly, if this had the Amazon name on it, they would most likely make us pay more for the backlit remote and offer it for somewhere around $20 to purchase and upgrade. I'm cool with it, usually get used to a remote within a week or so and don't really look at it anyway. Thanks to the guy that mentioned the model numbers, I'm planning on picking one up this weekend, that will keep me from being surprised, or disappointed when I open the box. I really think it should say in plain detail which remote is in it though. Thanks for sharing TripleM.

I've also seen videos where the remote doesn't have the 'magic button'. Walmart is really hosing this launch.
Mine came with a backlight. As a matter of fact, I returned my first one because I deleted the custom launcher on it and my homescreen got deleted right along with it.The second one that I purchased also had the backlit remote.

I got 2 boxes , both with code 2408a, black remotes no free tv, no backlight. I guess I have the onn 4k box from 2021 so the 4k pro remotes are the same except the 2021 box has a white remote. I guess for me the free tv backlight on remote is a non issue because the box runs great, has all the ports I wanted, and while many people are still trying to get a 4k pro, mine are hooked up and running . If you are so salty, why not return the boxes you have, I mean it is Walmart
Yes, I’m a little pissed because I’ve only had this box a week and I bought it from the store itself.
Hopefully all the pros going forward have the backlit remote. Should consider upgrading that Ethernet port to gigabit while its still early.
I doubt they are going to upgrade the Ethernet but I guess we’ll see.

Backlight would've be nice, but I *hate* that big ugly redundant "Free TV" button. So I'm okay with my basic remote.
I bought 2 of them and I took them back! They wouldn't discount them (remotes not backlit) so I just got my money back!

I’m upset I forgot to add. I have YT vids with date codes 3405 that I got-no backlight. 2408, 2410, 2411 supposed to have backlit remote. Local Walmarts only have 2405 code. I called Walmart tel no on the onn box & was told I can exchange my remote for backlit one but no luck finding one so far. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good stuff!
2408 does not come with backlight remote, I know I have 2 of them with 2408a code on sticker and both came with black, no free tv button, no backlight
