Love that title at 2:04
It's so avant garde isn't it?
🗿
3:27 as well
I'm going to assume he has a title action mapped on a streamdeck and pushed it without noticing.
@@zeikjt I enjoyed that more than the 2:04 one
I got these boxes for everyone for christmas. I hooked mine up to an old PC monitor and put it at the foot of my bed. I love it!
I have a DLNA server for my media. I just use VLC to access all my media. I did not know i could get an adapter to give it a USB port though! Def gotta get some super mario world going on it.
Honestly for 20 dls the cable and brick can be a big part of that price and you're getting the puck for almost free😂
Maybe a Walmart loss leader, or they're sending data back to sell. Likely both.
@@fungalcoffee they're
I picked one of these at my local Wally World a couple of weeks ago while I was out for a walk. It is not bad; especially for the $21.50 that I paid for it.
Yesterday I found their 2K version(like a fire stick) for $5 on clearance. Totally worth it.
Hey mate, can you possibly give the name of taht
@@IanIanIII Onn 2K stick I beleive.
Did you find them online?
Firestick sucks
Do what??
I always enjoy when ETA goes bargain hunting. I don't own either of these boxes; but, in general I've always had pretty good luck with Walmart house brand electronics. This applies to both Onn and its predecessor Durabrand.
Do you have Onn tablet? If yes, how are they?
@@ulfricstormcloak7142 I don't. ETA has done some reviews of them and they're fine. My first, and so far only, tablet is a Sky Elite 8 inch tablet listed in Marketplace as "new in the box" that I bought from an Obamaphone tent for $20. Unlike the phones where you have to get government aid to qualify; my understanding is that one of the COVID stimulus bills had a provision for the government to subsidize and sell tablets to anyone who wanted one, even if one isn't otherwise receiving assistance. I gave them a $20, they handed me a box, and that was it.
It's a little underpowered; but music streaming, scrolling through social media, and web browsing are generally fine. Game emulation is good through PS1. CZcams is slightly jittery at 720p 60 once it gets warmish, but rock solid at anything below that - including 720p30. The screen is really nice, crisp and with nice punchy colors. It runs a mostly clean version of Android 11. I've looked them up on eBay and it appears to be a generic design that they slap different brands on as needed. The rear shell looks very similar to the Onn 8 tablet's, so I don't know if they're related or not. It's well worth the $20 I paid and I can recommend it.
The Durabrand CRT TV was actually not bad! It showed a picture. Also used tons of Durabrand CD-Rs during that time period.
RIP Durabrand. Your name made me think of car parts.
Awesome review- did not even know this existed, will be picking one up this week
This kind of performance at this price point would have been a dream 10 years ago. Looking forward to running 4k upscaled Switch games on my $20 dongle in 2033!
lol this would never play switch at 4k, neither would any android box. Also switch emulation is dead on ARM as skyline is finished.
@@corsinivideos I'm talking about the hypothetical tv boxes that will come out 10 years from now!
@@dalfvideos AHH haha. I read 2023 not 2033, my bad. That would be great tbf.
10-15 years ago the closest we had was WDTV boxes and they cost $150
@@corsinivideos Well Yuzu just came out for Android, so we'll see I guess
Gotta give you props for pulling up Diddy Kong Racing.
The sound going out happened on the old version too. it was strange, the only way I got it to work was to turn on the "talkback" feature in the accessibility options. Then turn it back off and the the sound worked again.
Nice review buddy, unique perspective, this is helpful.
Tha ks ETA prime!! You are amazing! I hsur got this three days ago and it seems faster but all in all it appears to be the same
I gave my mother in law last years model and it works well for basic use.
Been rocking with mine for a while now recommended it to everybody
I bought a second one of these not too long ago, and got Open Morrowind working on it, using the internal storage and my own game files from the GOG version! And it runs pretty well on default settings! Got an OTG adapter coming in the mail from a factory in China by the 6th of October. I'm not hard to please, I love this thing! I'd buy a third if I could! 😂
wow these things just keep getting better every year!
I have one of these in my living room, connected to a 65in LG TV. Installed Jellyfin so I could watch media from my server via wifi. It works perfectly. I don't use it for emulation or games, only streaming, so I can't comment on that. But for $20, you can't beat it. I bought a second one to tinker around with at my desk, and connected a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Works great with Google Docs and social media apps. I plan to buy more.
I love budget devices especially when they work good and preform well. I know nothing of this product but there are many great ones out there.
One thing I'd like to know about the updated version is if it still suffers from a weird issue with disconnecting the remote randomly. We currently use the older model, and at times the remote would disconnect and the only solution I know to do is to throw the device in the freezer and then after a while plug it back in... Works like before. I have no clue what this issue could be.
I own 2 of the 2023 version, and it still randomly disconnects and has runaway inputs. Very frustrating while doing basic navigation
So far I haven't had this issue. I the issue was fixed on the older one on later batches. Two weeks in and no remote issues for me.
I've had mine for almost 2 weeks and haven't had any issues with the remote.
Are you going to be doing a review of the new Onn 4k pro. Just picked one up at walmart
Great box works great buy them out every time wallmart has them n I load them up fully loaded and I give as birthday gift, Xmas gifts to family n friends they love them.
2:07 “Title” 💫 👌🏻
Definitely worth $20! I have an older version and I like it that coincidentally, last month, I went to my local Walmart to get some more but they didn't have any in stock but since this is the new model, they should have it by now. I only use it for streaming and it's very snappy! It's pretty much the same like Google's Chromecast but Chromecast is more than double the price for the 4K version!
It has less features than the chromecast. No Dolby vision, for instance
@@Droogie128 I mean, that device lose features with every update (see the changelog of Chromecast with Android TV).
@@soragranda not really, no. It runs the exact same os as this. Still has support for more features than this thing
This doesn't support dolby vision or atmos. It's not bad for the money, but the chromecast has better features for a little bit more money.
@@Droogie128 Dude, I own a 4K version and just recently they've been losing features... they still have dolby vision and atmos when available but other stuff fails or is broken support for anything other than fat32).
@@soragranda I have one as well. No issues whatsoever. Dolby vision is a must have on a modern 4k device for me. I use the chromecast in the bedroom and an Nvidia shield in the living room
No dolby vision is a deal breaker
This $20 box has been a great replacement for my Roku TV. Able to run Kodi on it and it streams super fast.
I have Kodi on Roku. . lmao
@@jamedlock83 except the fact that it’s impossible so
@@Slowiee Kodi actually does work on Roku. It takes a bit of work but it's doable. The user must unlock developer mode. It's not impossible at all.
@@mw7967even with developer mode enabled you can’t sideload Kodi on a Roku device. It written in C++ which won’t run on Kodi. You can cast a Kodi playing device to Roku but impossible to sideload natively.
That's just screen mirroring. not the same thing
I use these all the time for gifts. They work great for a CZcams box.
Seems like it's better than the cheapest fire sticks from a performance perspective, might have to snag one to try it out
New Google TV Box works Better in 4K now then the older version. A lot of improvements.😎
These are great for portable projectors but I already bought a 4K fire stick when they gave me a deal to purchase one for $20.
Hey, Thanks. You know I was thinking of the junk stuff that I do not use anymore and all the dongles and other things i have collected over the years. I had a trashcan full of pc dongles and parts from the 80s up unto 2010. My brother junked them and made me really mad. However, the trashcan is almost full again. Watching your video and thinking hey that would be easy to add Ethernet to with some of the stuff I have and the beet goes on. I may buy one just to full around with. Thanks.
I've actually been playing pokemon and final fantasy 7 with the remote. For it to be locally available and $20, can't beat it.
Pokenon? The gameboy version?
I bought one of these a couple weeks ago because I needed a hdmi cable while traveling and this was only like $10 more than just buying a hdmi cable
Man if you have a small monitor laying around and want to have TV in the guest bedroom, this is the solution.
Would like to see it do Raspi things better than a Raspi.
Can you explain how did you make the external to work? My usb is detected, but the apps can't detect the external usb device files.
Apparently its such a good deal that people in my area are scalping them. I was told a man came in and bought the entire case, so I went online, and every Walmart in a 100 mile radius is sold out of them.
Update: I was told that my local Walmart was getting a new shipment in, so I went in on my way to work, and was told by an employee in electronics that the same guy came in and bought them all again less than an hour after restock :(
Wow
Damn
@@moji3812 I have one now. They started turning him away, because other people wanted them too. They started limiting them to 1 per customer
He probably resells them on eBay with 35% profit
Yeah, those guys are evil.
Why stores allow that is ridiculous. It drives customers away long term.
Bought it. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The 2021 ONN box natively mounted external NTFS formatted USB thumb drives via OTG. The new one DOES NOT (confirmed on Android TV Reddit)! I cannot play any of my movies that I have on my USB thumb drive anymore. I immediately reconnected the old one. Also, the old box benchmarks faster than the new one, despite the hardware differences. FAT 32 drives may work, but my files are all over 4GB in size so that's pointless. Plus, as stated, the old ONN box would mount NTFS thumb drives no problem. The fact that the new one DOES NOT is RIDICULOUS. Also, no exFAT support.
How is it for Plex streaming? Can it play 4K remuxes without transcoding?
Does it support exFAT?
@@zeikjt no exFAT
No exFAT or NTFS? ouch
@@xphyle Damn, r.i.p. bad tech
Thanks for the info. Does it have the youtube tv app?
What do you think about this for game streaming via gamepass or GeForce now
Interesting device, I do wonder if easy to run Dreamcast can reach full speed.
Only a few PSP, NDS and DC Titles can reach full speed on an amlogic s905, Mostly 2D Games and very simple 3D Games.
Can the s905x4 run dc titles full speed. Talking about the Verizon stream tv chipset which has it.
On RetroArch for some reason, the core I use runs better , the core is called N64 Parallel, runs smoothly against other N64 cores
Picked the older model up and still going strong with daily use. Funnily enough I'm using it in Malaysia. It also still feels snappier than my other android TVs.
I just hooked up my onn box easy set up look good user friendly well worth the price the disappointment for me is one of best free streaming platforms is unavailable and that would be the Roku channel fire & apple have it and of course Roku good vid thx
Yes I have 2 of them. They are decent. 😊
This with AMD link you essentially take your computer with you anywhere lol very underrated feature.
Trying to decide between this or Tivo Stream to cast from my phone to TV.
can't get it, out of stock in nearby stores and I don't see an option to buy it online
I had the 2021 version of this device and I would lose sound all of the time also. Great for what it is though.
That OTG cable you showing in video, if you plug that one into box how will the box be powered? Does it have a battery? That OTG you showing doesn't have power in adapter so I don't understand how did you use that cheap OTG adapter if box is powered through MicroUSB?
It has a mini power wore to add a power block to insert in the power receptacle
I tried the y splitter USB adapter on my old onn tv, and could not get it to work well. When it finally worked it was only on a USB drive formatted to fat32. So only files less than 4gb. I would call this product ewaste, but it does do streaming well. Using the USB adapter usually meant the onn tv box would lock up, and be un usable needing to unplug it to power cycle it.
Chromecast has USB-C, and also only supports FAT32 drives...
Was it a flash drive or external hard drive? That sounds like a power issue. And the fat32 issue is just an Android thing. Support for other filesystems is spotty between vendors.
I want to know how Moonlight does on this thing. It would be nice to have an inexpensive device that I can move around and stream games to.
You know what I asked about this a couple days ago and I'm assuming you may have read my comment thank you for doing this I'm watching it now
Trying to decide between this or Tivo Stream box. I just want to cast from my phone to the TV.
The thing I hate most about Android boxes is the hit 'n' miss auto refresh rate switching and the lack of bit-perfect PCM audio playback. Those are the things I miss most from using a Windows media PC.
I also bought two of the original ones. Remote died on the first one. The second one started glitching around a month ago. Quality just wasn't there.
Need help adjusting the color on the ONN 4K device. Thanks……….
i tryed the original onn android tv box. loved all the features but i went back to Roku due to the audio normalizing/leveling across apps. The Roku had a "night" mode that worked across the entire app ecosystem for audio dynamic compression. Does anyone know if they have implemented that in the android TV boxes. The onn box i had would have fairly noticeable audio volume differences going from say Hulu to Sling. I would have to adjust my receiver 5-6 clicks to compensate.
You can change that there are a few settings. But id take android over Roku any day. You can do more with it. .
I did like that feature on my old Roku tv. but for every other reason I hated it.
i remember just a month after I switched to android tv, seeing an article that the handful of themes on Roku that cost like 1.99 each, were now all free! Really!! 😤
try adjusting your EQ in your tv's audio settings. my tv is a 50" sanyo-an old dumb tv. But even for me, changing the eq drastically improved the sound levels.
I have a older model, but disappointed with storage, wish you could open it up and add more storage. With like a smaller flash drive
What would be the best Google/Android TV device that supports AV1 decoding?
What are some good side load apps for any show/movie free
Can you show it running Steam Link, playing some AAA games?
I had the previous version of this, and it lagged pretty bad while running Steam Link, and eventually overheated and has since completely died. I swore off these things, but if this new version is better, I might pick one up again.
I have a cheap s9o5 tv box and psx and snes performance is amazing a barely touched my series s in the last month.
I wonder if this one would be any good for cloud gaming, like steam link, game pass ultimate, geforce now, etc.
I use the older firestick 4k with steam link more than I play at my PC. I got my gaming PC in the bedroom but usually I just want to chill on the couch in the living room and play on the bigger tv. Wife doesn't like the PC in the living room unfortunately.
Might be a good follow up video.
Thats what i WANNA KNOW
the SOC S905Y4 is a little better compare to chromecast with google tv HD, the 4k variant uses S905X3 and 1.5gb Ram. This ONN is actually a better deal if your into market for one of these.
The only problem with Android boxes is that they don't have rewind, fast forward and play/pause buttons on the remote, like the Firesticks and Rokus do. I found an old Roku remote lying around, and will try to pair it to the ONN box over Bluetooth
Any success?
Can it download the Samsung TV plus app from what it appears to have, Google Play Store..? Thanks
haha great review, but what's with the "Title" animation at 2:05 😅
I REALLY liked this streamer (last years model)......until I finally had to ditch it. I had TONS of problems trying to keep the remote connected. The remote kept dropping out and would no longer be recognized. Other than that, great little streaming player but the remote connections were crap.
2:03 LOL! Title on center of the screen! 🤣
i initally wasn't sold on upgrading for it's minimal core improvements and objectively worse launcher UI.
as long as i can still change the default launcher on this model,
i might get it for the external storage and the like.
I got openRCT2 installed and running on the 2021 model just to see if i could.
I couldn't tell you if the game ran well past the main menu without keys and a mouse.
it wasn't crashing, but i had 0 space or memory left to work with.
do you think it could run clone hero? lol
Is there a good recommended method to connect both, ethernet cable and storage?
Im disappointed that you didn't try the standalone emulator for N64, still love ya channel tho 😭
How do u get to local channels you get with over the air antenna
Bought it for the bedroom, good device for that. My 8bitdo controllers don't work from 10 feet away tho. That sucks but what can ya do, it was $20
Rather than game natively, perhaps some cloud gaming would be a good use for this device?
Someone had some issues with the Bluetooth range ? My Dualshock 4 have a lot of input lag. Had some loud crashes in the system too.
can you connect 2 controllers for 2 player games when emulating through retroarch?
They need to put the HDMI and microUSB slots beside each other. It's stupid they are on opposite sides
Can it save offline videos with Disney plus or CZcams?
I just got it but it doesn’t let me side load or access to manage my storage. How did you installed retroarch?
Just wondering if there is any remote problems?I have the older 4k version and the remotes abruptly stop working.
Question, what version of Stardew valley did you install? I’ve been trying and no luck so far. Thank you
Would you be able to connect a touchscreen monitor via USB to this device? I'm looking for an inexpensive way display a website on a touchscreen monitor and provide for scrolling via the touchscreen.
Well worth the $20, I think I'm running 3 at my house.
Can you install apps via USB? I’m looking to install the spectrum TV app
Just FYI i bought something similar to this while visiting Florida last year and these do not work in the UK
Can a Chromebook or other device cast it's display to a TV through this device, or use the TV as a second display using this device?
its a shame in the uk the only onn products they get in is a bunch of headphones and some usb cables. The biggest onn things they get in is a dvd player and cd player.
Watching this video in the previous version.
I'm looking for a good usb otg hub for this that includes ethernet. Can you recommend anything? There's a lot of junk out there, I'm not sure if there's a good one at a good price?
How does this fairs against the offerings under Amazon Fire TV Stick (4k)? Is this recommended over the fire stick given the cost?
Easily over any Fire Stick 4k and even the 4k Max if you don't need Dolby Vision.
I couldn't recommend these more over the Chromecasts, Roku, and Fire Sticks
They even play well with apple devices and have better specs than the $30 sticks
Sir,
would this run something like RETRO-ORANGE-Pi............which i believe offers tons of emulations and also a full Linux desktop.
Thanks
how do you set the USB device as an external storage? Im not seeing that option on mine and it looks like they marry each other and cant go back to my pc with it
Can a VPN service be used with these? I travel around the world for work and it'd be nice to have something like this to connect to hotel TVs to watch stuff back home.
I had one of the older ONN pucks and for some reason it didn't like ProtonVPN or any other VPNs I could find.
I thought VPN is illegal now. I thought we were doing China rules. Use VPN 20 years in jail. I've heard it more than once so it must be true .
@@100Bucks What the heck are you going on about? VPN is perfectly legal.
@@mw7967 I've stopped using it since my wife told me about it. Then I started seeing CZcams videos saying the same thing. If the Internet says it, it can't be fake news 😂
Ok so, this is 10 days ago and you are able to get retroarch from the Play Store but it's nowhere to be found on mine? Any links on how to get it on mine? That was the whole reason I bought this device. I can download it on my phone but not for the Onn. 🤷🏻
I had two of these and both started running hot and had to get rid of mine
2:07 bro was tired of editing😂
I'm a big fan of "title" myself
i wonder if it supports hd home run and if it suffers from the same slowdown over time due to ATV memory leaks that other boxes have
I have one and it works great with my HD HomeRun. (I have an older dual-tuner model hooked up to an antenna.)
Cool, for 20 bucks not bad at all
wait how did you use a controller for this onn tv and if so what usb hub otg cable did you use like ws it 4 port
How do you get RetroArch on one of these I can't find it when I search?
