    Excellent information Shawn, delivered with great enthusiasm. Keep them coming 🙂
    I've been using Linux since back when Slackware CDs on Linux magazines was a thing, but I didn't know all the history behind why many of the different (and apparently redundant) directories exist.

      Thanks Steve! It’s funny, I’ve actually created a course for Linux Essentials before (for CBT) and I’ve actually learned a few things this time around!
      It makes the “simple” Linux stuff fun for me to create!

    Excellent. Making my learning much more meaningful. Please throw more light on the file system especially / and /root

      No problem! I often forget how silly some of the legacy stuff can get. :)

    I have been looking for a video like this for years.. Been on Microsoft since DOS and the linux system is rather frightening when you are coming in hot after discarding windows for ever :)

      I'm so glad you're finding them useful! This essentials course is complete too, so no waiting for me to get around to finishing! :D

    Good stuff Shawn. Thank you! I do have a question. When I go to /var/log folder and do an ls, it lists the contents in what I call a "horizontal" view. In this video, why does your ls command list them in a vertical format? It's the little things, ya know? The vertical output is much more undstandable to me vs. the horizontal. I hope this makes sense.

      Thanks! There's a similar video for the Linux+ series I'm doing now too, if you're into filesystem stuff. :)

    Why are log files going to be binary I stead of txt?

    • @meagandoesthings
      @meagandoesthings Před rokem +1

      easier to handle/read by other programs (in theory but this hasnt been my experience), treats it like a database file instead of a text file, and uses less space stored in binary vs cleartext
