Remember when he attempted to assault Serena and Jenny in the first two episodes and people glamorized his behavior because they thought he was hot?
That’s because that’s what chuck in books did and chuck in the gossip girl books didn’t have that much of a big role (I think he died even) and they clearly started treating him as a side character that everyone would hate and be done with just within the few episodes but they didn’t expect Ed to be such great actor and would bring so much to the character that’s why they moved away from his book persona and he’s much better on the show, I just consider those two horrible assaults as the fake/book chuck and not the real chuck

I am swell actually, and I would have to disagree with your characterization of King Bass. I ship Chuck & Blair because I have watched the entire series and I am aware of the context of his misbehavior. Not to mention, they belong together - A King needs his Queen!
I hope people who find the toxic men like Chuck Bass attractive are naive and in their teens or early 20’s. I remember when I found him and his relationship with Blair incredibly hot. And that was in my early 20’s. After I’ve re-watched a show in my late 20s, I now know better not to encourage such toxic behaviors.

Fun fact, the books of gossip girl were actually based on real people, the author wrote them about her schoolmates. The person Chuck was based on did that, but then he was only ever in the series like one more time. Chuck in the show, while he may have started the same as book Chuck, is not book Chuck.

Chuck was a bad character in general. The writers failed at his redemption because real redemption is when you try to move ahead to be better for good. He kept on regressing. He treated Blair as an object of possession rather than a strong woman. He gaslit her constantly in the series, putting the blame on her for his wrongdoings. He is my worst favorite character. You were right that he was a bad friend to Nate.
He sexually assaults Serena in the pilot. He then spends the rest of the 1st season hitting on her. I am surprised that she never told Lily. If Lily were to knew, then she wouldn't be willing to be a mother replacement for Chuck.
As for Jenny, he tried to rape her as well, but he tried to twice. Plus he took advantage of her weakened state in the Season 3 finale by coercing her into sleeping with him. Rufus wouldn't allow him anywhere near Jenny if he knew.
He was shitty towards Dan as well.

@@a.g.m9078 exactly they made Dan act they way he did in season 6 and made him GG to make Chuck look like the better option for Blair which even if I somehow believed that Dan was GG which I don’t especially since the writers even admitted that they made Dan GG at the last minute which just goes to show how bad they were at their job they knew that Dan was the better man for Blair so they had to basically ruin his character to make chuck look good. Dan treated her like she always wanted like her own person with him she matured and evolved and as soon as she got back with chuck she reverted into that petty self centered girl worse than she was in season one I really couldn’t stand her in the final season. Chuck cheated on her in season two when Jack comes in and tricks Blair into making a party with the bass industry investors he takes chuck to party and hook up with girls to which chuck happily does even though he knew damm well he was with Blair. He was always looking for excuses to ruin their relationship when they were together and then when she was happy with someone else he would ruin it. Dan loved Blair since season four but yet he was still their for her as a friend in her relationship problems unlike chuck who would get possessive over her with other guys. Yes Dan made a mistake sleeping with Serena but let’s not forget Serena’s hand in making that happen she went to him when he was heartbroken over Blair not meeting him and seduced him.Chuck would always go sleep with other women the minute things went wrong with Blair so he was far from her ideal match

1. He payed millions of dollars to get Blair out of her toxic marriage to Louis and almost bankrupted himself without Blair knowing he was the the one who helped her.
2. He gave money to Nate’s mum when she asked him for it when their family was having money issues.
3. He let Nate and his Dad stay at his hotel for free
4. He put Blair’s happiness above his own, he let Blair go so she could marry Louis and didn’t send Blair’s confession video into gossip girl when Georgina gave it to him.
5. Knowing that Blair was depressed at NYU he secretly sent away an application form so she could go to her perfect college.
6. He put together a fashion show for Blair when she was bed-bound.
7. He and Blair helped Serena on multiple occasions, whether it was helping her get out of a relationship or discovering the ugly truth about the person Serena was dating.
8. He made sure Blair had her perfect prom and didn’t let the other girls sabotage Blair so she could have the best day of his life (even if it was without him)
9. He went to three different countries to get Blair personalised presents to say he loves her.
10. He was one of the only people who treated Eric like a normal person when he came home from the Ostroff centre after trying to commit suicide.
11. He kept Lily’s secret about her having a child with Rufus.
12. He missed his flight to rush to the hospital when Serena was hit by a car.
13. He let Blair seduce him so she would think he hadn’t changed so she could get her relationship to a Louis back on track.
14. Chuck never slept with Blair when she married (cough unlike Dan cough)
15. He agreed to wait for Blair until she was ready and comfortable with herself before becoming a couple again.
16. He supported a man’s struggling business when Vanessa was campaigning to keep his bar open.
17. He helped expose William when he had falsely told Lily she had cancer and was giving her fake meds.
18. He kept the dog that Dan just abandoned at his hotel
19. He chased after Dan when he drunkenly barged into Blair’s engagement party to save them both from embarrassment
20. He supported Blair when she didn’t want to go through with her marriage and said he would help raise another mans child.
Yes, I gave more than ten cause Chuck is always unfairly judged. First off the pilot episode was just introducing the concept of the show so it could get picked up, after it got picked up they quickly changed chucks character and motivations. Notice how they don’t refer to Chucks predatory actions in the pilot until season 4 again as they just wanted to shove it under a rug as they changed his whole character and gave him a relationship with Blair, more of a main role and a backstory. In the pilot for instance he and Nate are take the BUS to school (which is a MAJOR oversight as these are rich kids and they never do it again) and Chuck has a mum which is still alive.
Second, the hotel thing. Blair would of sold herself if Chuck asked or if he didn’t ask- she even says later in the episode she would of done it if he had just asked her. He never asked her as he didn’t want it to obvious to his uncle that she knew about the deal. Either way Blair walked into the room as a consenting adult and knew what she wanted in return (Chuck to be given back his hotel) Earlier in the season Blair asks Chuck to seduce the dean of her college and deliberately makes him take it too far without chuck knowing about the deal all so she can give a speech. Which when you look at it both are very similar situations except Blair went into her situation knowing about the deal and wanted to give more of her self away. I’m not defending those actions as it is awful but luckily Blair didn’t have to go through with it.
The gg characters aren’t perfect and all of them do very questionable things, personally I think Dan is the worst and is a borderline sociopath and stalker but let’s be honest chair are the only reason we actually finished the show as we loved them and they were both more toxic apart than together 😂

To be fair most of the characters are horrible a good chunk of the time. I still find the show entertaining and I like the majority of the characters. Serena starts to bug me bad because she acts like she's so much better when she's exactly the same as everyone else.
You see for that first one I was on Chuck's side. Lily was being mad fake. She's only sorry cause Bart was dead. Had he not been dead she would not have given a fuck. She was ready to leave him for sorry ass Rufus. Chuck said he always liked Lily regardless of how he acted. Chuck sleeping with Jenny. All the blame should not be casted on Chuck. Jenny was just as responsible. She didn't have to sleep with Chuck and that stupid brother of hers always making her out to be some kind of victim. I really hated the Humphries. They always use to walk around acting as if they so much better than everybody else on the Upper East Side, as if they so moral when in reality they are just as bad especially that Dan. You need to do Top 10 Times Chuck Bass was the Best on Gossip Girl cause he had plenty good moments on the show. Also Top 10 Times Blair was the Worst on Gossip Girl needs to be done as well. As toxic as their relationship are, you gotta admit, Blair and Chuck deserve each other. Like, literally.
I've written a novel once where, surprisingly enough, the two characters there were a lot similar to Chair even though I haven't watched Gossip Girl. It's basically two toxic individuals getting together and they have their on and off times, one where they are just like any couple out there (sweet + romantic) and the latter where they're literally trying to destroy each other's lives. One quote from my novel is, "A horrible person deserves to be with someone just as horrible as them." when the girl have truly embraced their relationship. Think of it as Frank and Claire Underwood kind of dynamic.
I made it clear how these two are the villains and that people shouldn't root for this kind of relationship since it can be REALLY harmful. It was fun writing complex characters but damn, I would never want to be in a relationship as toxic as theirs.

Ya Chuck started out as a horrible person (which was frequently mentioned in the show - they never pretended like he was good). But he admitted his wrongs, went to therapy, and changed. His evolution over the course of the series is rarely seen in teen dramas so I still enjoy him and the show
I hated chuck in season 1 but by season 6 he was my favorite and one of the only characters I love in the show

That he was awful and disgusting once, I can agree. That his behavior was inexcusable, unforgivable and unforgettable, that too. But he had the best redemption arc out of all Gossip Girl characters, and definitely and truly changed for the better, which is something that you cannot say about everybody. In that world full of rats, he looks much better, however.
They should do a ten times Nate or blair was horrible on gossip girl there is plenty of times I think of.
