      @@pseudopanda5567 I don't think Ross took the moral high ground.
      Firstly they were Joey and Charlie were broken up. So when Ross kissed Charlie, in reality it wasn't betrayal but it did break the bro code.
      Secondly, when Joey and Rachel kissed Ross was just "fine". It must have hurt to see the love of your life with your best friend but He never blamed them. He suffered in silence and understood he had to make peace with it.

    One thing I hate:
    Ross and Rachel fighting about being on a break

    I really hate how Ross always wants to be prioritized.
    Like that scene in the episode where Ross's and Monica's parents sell the house, where Ross starts screaming because Monica gets the Porsche and not him. Earlier in the episode he talks to their dad about how Monica has always been treated unfairly, but as soon as she finally gets something he doesn't (unlike the many, many times it had been the other way around) he shows that really only approves of change, as long as it doesn't inconvenience him.
    This is also shown when he shames Rachel for spending "too much" time at her job, when he literally almost ruined the second date they ever had because he had to work late at the museum. Because when his job, and what he cares about are on the line, he would do anything, but he expects Rachel to prioritize him over everything.

    People are talking about how Joey and Chandler were sexist too...
    Chandler is sarcastic, there’s a difference.
    Joey is a player there’s a slight difference.
    Ross claimed to love Rachel so much but slept with a women less than 24 hours after they decided to spend some time apart and then said it was ok because they were “on a break” and tells his son that it was ok because they were “on a break”. And apparently it was ok for him to do all of this because he was insecure about Mark.
    Became EXTREMELY jealous when any man came into her life whether they were dating or not.
    They got married in las vegas while drunk and because he didn’t want to be divorced three times refused to get it annulled, then LIED to her about it and tried to make it seem reasonable and like she should be obligated to forgive him.
    Came on to his cousin because she “definitely wanted it” like ew.
    Don’t even get me started when she had his baby. He acted like he owned her, he got angry at her when she rejected his plan to marry her, hid the fact that a guy from a bar whose number she gave him called her back.
    I mean the shit he put her through and you all are saying it’s ok because he’s insecure.
    Not to mention how awful Monica and ross’ parents are to Monica and treating ross like the golden boy, like in the episode where Jack uses monica’s childhood boxes to protect the Porsche from a flood and when Monica finds out her dad gives her a porsche and ross gets jealous and says something along the lines of “so a couple of boxes get ruined and she gets the porsche?” even though his boxes are perfectly safe and he’s basically been given everything on a silver platter his whole life.
    I think he got worse throughout the seasons but, once again, just my opinion.

    • @abby1909
      @abby1909 Před 4 lety +68

      Yes, i do expect a man to pine after her for at least a week, because if he truly loved her he wouldn’t have slept with another woman so quickly. I’m sorry, how can you defend that? being on a break for 24 hours, sleeping with another woman in that time and then expected Rachel to not find out, he knew what he did was wrong, he wouldn’t have literally hid the woman behind the door while Rachel came back the next day to APOLOGIZE to that selfish man who slept with another woman less than a day after she aid they were on a break yet every single time there was even a voicemail for Rachel from a man he freaked out about how he needed to hide it because “He belongs with Rachel”.

      I agree, that was one of the few times I was actually on Ross's side. that usually happens when it's a conflict between him and Phoebe, like the fight about evolution, or the fight about her dream. being blindly supportive and loyal is NOT what a good friend does, and there reaches a point where whimsical silliness doesn't stand up to cool logic.

And even more if you have gone through a failed marriage were you still have to see your exwife's partner almost daily....and plus, it was the 90's, and no one could care about those issues because the internet wasn't as big....I just feel more attached to Ross because he had flaws and was the only one to really have problems solving them

Three divorces in like less than five years? Faking the annulment between him and Rachel and keeping it a secret that they're still married because he's afraid of being divorced? Asking a self defense coach on how to tackle a woman just so he can get back at Rachel and Phoebe? Ruining a lot of his relationships in many years just because he's still in love with Rachel and doesn't even have the guts to say it? Have the most toxic and unrealistic on and off relationship with Rachel throughout the series? I could on and on at how unrealistic and ridiculous his history is.

It’s like Ben is non existent and even with Emma he acted like father when it suited him. I feel joey was more supportive of Emma and he’s not even the father. It’s pity people hated roey because I think they had potential and throughout the show he was there for Rachel and he didn’t even mock her job like Ross did. I liked the arc with Rachel and joey because I thought it evolved joey more as person. When he fell in love for the first time. He was mature and proved there was more to joey as a character he was loving and protective and the type to make a great boyfriend if only had been given chance to add Rachel had similar personalitie to joey

    Honestly, I think the issue isn't whether or not they were oN A brEaK, it's about how the whole situation was handled. We don't really know how it all would have played out if Ross went to Rachel right away and said "I thought we were broken up, so I got drunk and slept with someone else". Intead he put special effort into trying to hide it, and went on the whole 'we were on a break' defensive only once he realized that other strategies weren't working. Rachel never had the opportunity to see it from the perspective of Ross genuinely believing that they were broken up and him sleeping with someone else on that knowledge. Because she found out about it from someone else and then watched Ross make up excuses for hours.
    I do believe they were on a break. In that Ross is in the right. But he wanted to have it both ways. He wanted to hide what he'd done as if it was wrong, bad, as if he'd cheated, so Rachel wouldn't find out and he would never have to deal with the consequences. But when she found out, he also wanted to be absolved because they were on a break, therefore he had not cheated, and what he'd done wasn't wrong. It really doesn't work like that. If you think you haven't cheated, then don't act as though you have. If you're trying to hide your affair, then don't go claiming you haven't cheated.

    • @user-vm2rz3mg3v
      @user-vm2rz3mg3v Před 5 lety +5

      I completely agree. He's saying "we were on a break" as an excuse for what he had already done yet if he took that seriously he wouldn't have acted that jealous when he called Rachel and she was with Mark. It was AFTER he slept with someone else and felt guilty about it that he made up that excuse. He should have owned up to what he did. I'm not defending Rachel because she also didn't handle some things very well, but I like her so much in those episodes after they break up because on the one with the ski trip the gang says they're hanging out with Ross and she's super cool about it, and when it goes the other way around he acts like the victim and goes "when it's my first weekend all alone you're all gonna leave me behind?" And when they offer to stay he goes "pity stay" Wtf man.
      Also he acts like a jerk when he goes with Carol, she's so nicely telling him to get out, and he ate all the food and stayed for hours telling the wrong story. And if that wasn't enough, when Phoebe calls for help he goes "oh I'm hanging out with my real friends" BRO what a freaking child he is, just because they went with Rachel they're not real friends? Idk how they were able to stand him

      justmyopinion 1 it was Rachel’s idea for them to go on a break. Within a day, Rachel calls it a breakup over the phone, asks if she can be his girlfriend again, and tells Monica they broke up instead of celebrating their anniversary. When you’re on a break, you’re not together. So he had every right to sleep with the copy girl. Not cheating.

    All of the friends had moments when they were the worst but Ross is the most underrated character. He had some of the funniest moments and the way David schwimmer portrayed it was fantastic. Maybe Ross had some terrible moments because he had quite a few tough times in life. I really hate how he’s always the Character that people hate and dislike he’s the most loyal and caring and what he does for his friends is unbelievable. He’s one of the best guys. Love him. Phoebe may of had the toughest upbringing but cause Ross’ fly under the rador dosent mean it didn’t effect him so much. The energy and moments he had have been some of the funniest and most memorising Moments and this is coming from someone who dosent like ross the best I’ve just noticed how good he is as a brother friend and person and it gets unnoticed because of some issues he had that he worked hard to stop and fix

    • @elenahale8547

      I disagree. I don't think he was considerate towards his friends at all, with the exception of one or two moments in the series. He always rubbed in Monica's face that his parents preferred him. He made his parents think Chandler was addicted to pot to cover his butt. He kissed Charlie when she and Joey were still dating. He constantly mocked Phoebe's beliefs. And he was obsessed with Rachel to the point of trying to sabotage her other romantic relationships even when he didn't want to be with her. Now, I'm not saying that the other friends are better. Rachel also generally treats the firends awfully, and so does chandler at times. But Ross has way more bad moments than good ones; and he never really takes any responsibility for the ways in which he hurts his friends.

    He complains that she couldn't go to their date because of work, when he did literally the same thing on their first date. It's almost like his career is worth mor then hers.
    And when he doesn't want rachel to go to a fashion lecture with mark, so he goes with her and sleeps through the whole thing. And then he keeps complaining about her career and saying that it's boring and making fun of it.
    He just can't stand when Rachel's got something for herself, he just needs him to be the only thing going on in her life

    I don't see why there are so many hate for Ross like others are perfect, i like each and every character but some things are to be said, Rachel ruined his relationship with julie, Bonnie and she is jealous as Ross with almost all of the girls went with according to her it is weird if he went out with her sister but she can go out and kiss with his friend of 10 years, Chandler cheated joey when he kissed kathy , he walked out on monica on the day of her wedding and he was also insecure about richard but he can do those because he's not Ross , Joey was sweet but only to his friends , he almost never calls the women he sleeps with , even though Ross is the one who kissed charlie first ,he is the one who stopped and asked apologies from him, if Ross hadn't walked in on rachel and joey on Barbados and in the apartment he obviously would have sex with her, monica is also a control freak , Chandler and Monica's relationship lasted because most of the times Chandler is flexible , Phoebe is flaky she can do whatever she wants, and actually Ross has the most painful moments in the series, and i know they are just sitcom characters so don't lecture me.

Of course, this very much contrasted with Phoebe's more emotional standpoint. Sure, he could have gone about it more sensitively, but this was after much frustration and not much help from the others with his arguments

    @nirmalyasengupta4629 Před 6 lety +14

    Wow , can't believe the hatred here . I hated Ross when he first cheated on Rachel . That's the only time I hated him . Else he has a golden heart , whenever I see him playing with Ben it melts my heart cuz it shows how amazing father he is : he also mentioned once how it breaks his heart as he can't have him all the time, he bought Phoebe the bike , lend money to Monica and Joey when in need and was never miserly about money , Helped the ' strong, independent ' Rachel go to hospital by cancelling his TV program and so on and so forth. It was wrong for him to say Rachel's name at the wedding , but he did his best to amend it afterwards . He agreed to everything Emily said even though the conditions were unreasonable , saying that in real life we have to adjust even if we don't like it , but we have to do it , showing that he could give everything away for his marriage . People complaining he was homophobic, it was he who convinced Carol to marry Susan when she thought of calling off the wedding and walked her down the aisle. Not to mention how hard he tried to adjust to the fact that Joey and Rachel dated ( I would love to see Rachel if he ever dated Phoebe ) . I know everyone would agree that Chandler kind of became dull after marrying Monica , and if one character who would crack us up with all the crazy things he did through all the seasons is Ross . David Schwimmer was the best actor among the cast ( closely followed by Lisa ) . And lastly , nobody ever mentions what an awful son Chandler was as he hated his dad for being whom he was and how many women Joey cheated upon. And Ross was completely right about Phoebe's cat thing.

    Here's how I feel about whether or not they were on a break. The way I see it, both are to blame. Neither of them were innocent. Yes, Ross did sleep with another woman, but Rachel pretty much ignored how he felt about her being around Mark. She never took his feelings into consideration. Especially when she invited Mark over immediately after they decided to take a break. Ross wanted to get back with Rachel when he called her on the phone, but he heard Mark in the background, and thought it was over. I feel like most people would feel how Ross felt in that situation, but that still doesn't excuse his actions. And I knew that Mark wanted to get with Rachel the whole time. Lol. :P
    And in the episode where they broke up, Rachel said herself that they were on a break. Then she suddenly changes her mind? That part I never understood. And when she wrote the letter, she never took responsibility for her actions and was playing the victim. She wanted Ross to take full responsibility for what happened, and to me, that's pretty shitty. So, yeah. Lol. In my opinion, neither of them were innocent.

      Yeah, no. I saw nothing wrong with how Rachel was acting with Mark pre-"break". And I can't stand neither Ross nor Rachel and never liked them as a couple. Even if Mark had a crush on her it would not have amounted to anything if Rachel didn't want it to, and clearly she didn't. I get that Ross was hurt by Carol and that may have explained his jealousy and fear of losing Rachel, but that wasn't Rachel's fault. If you're not capable of trusting your partner you shouldn't be in the relationship at all, and clearly he didn't. Plus it's just a really, really sleezy thing to do to jump into bed with someone else mere hours after a relationship ends, or you think it does.
