Great tip on nails in scrap as paint stands. One variation on this I've used is to put nails (or screws) into long skinny strips of scrap, then cap the top rails of my saw horses with them, screwing or clamping the pieces to the horses. Longer pieces can even extend the length of the horses (as in an 8 ft piece extending a 4 ft horse 2 ft in each direction), which can then be places as far apart as needed for painting longer projects.
And I also agree with you about paying extra for better paint. In fact, it's worth it to get 'trim and cabinet' paint for this job. It dries faster and cures harder, which is worth it where painted pieces like doors, drawer fronts and face frames touch each other (nothing worse than cheap paint that can stay sticky for weeks pulling off the wood as it transfers over to the other painted surface).

Pro painter here. We do 20-30 sets of kitchen cabs per year. A lot of good advice here, but she does make it look a lot simpler than it actually is.
I never recommend a homeowner doing their own kitchen cabs. Way too much work and your kitchen will likely be down for 2 or 3 weeks. Even with professional tools, we usually can't get them done in less than 5 days. However, a small bath vanity is perfect if you want to tackle it yourself. The sprayer that she recommended is the exact one that I recommend to anyone wanting to DIY. Just make sure you keep it clean.
And for a top coat (she didn't mention a brand) we use PPG Breakthrough V50 or Benjamin Moore Command. We typically do both in satin finish. I wouldn't recommend higher gloss because the higher the gloss the more it shows imperfections. Just don't use a flat finish and you'll be fine as long as you use something that is rated for cabinetry.
Edit: Please don't use a roller of any type anywhere on cabinets. If you're only painting the face frames and not the interior of them, use a small 2" or 2.5" sash brush. Make sure it's a nice, soft brush. A roller can't achieve the finish that a brush or spraying can and it's going to look like dog doo the minute light hits it.

@@mvboynton You shouldn't have to. But, if you can't get it to push through, just read the instructions on the can and it will tell you what you can dilute to. Most are between 5-10%.

It was nice to see your mom again. This paint was very impactful to the overall look of the bathroom, and only paint with no major remodel was done. That sends a good signal that, if planed, one can make a great impact with just a small and simple project. Thanks!

We did the same thing for our kitchen cabinets recently!
We learned that special attention needs to be paid to those cabinets above the stove because grease like to accumulate there, and can make it difficult for paint to adhere.

This is why I always put pulls or knobs on drawers and doors. If you don't, you're going to get a lot of grubby gunk on the drawers by having to pull them open by your fingers. Especially in a bathroom or kitchen.

@AprilWilkerson Two things: 1) Your fake drawer fronts, they do make new snap in retainers for them and also make a hinged dealy with a plastic pocket on the inside for storage of small stuff like combs and sponges or whatever you like. So it opens like the glove box in your truck. 2) They also make soft closing hinges that don't take a lot of work to install, but are absolutely a nice upgrade. A few bucks now = lots of FOR SALE bucks!!!

Nice job. Very well thought out. Looks like something my wife and I could easily do with our very similar age and composition dual vanity. One thing I noticed with yours, though, is the large blanks directly in front of each sink between the drawers. I'm in the process of converting ours to flip-out panels with storage for sponges, small brushes, maybe even toothpaste, or similar-sized objects that you might otherwise lose in a drawer while at the same time not wanting them on the counter, either. Different width kits to do this are available at any big-box or online DIY store and aren't costly at all.

Having worked in a paint store for several years, let me recommend everyone use an oil based paint on any cabinetry. The oils on your skin will break down even the best latex paints. Plus you'll be cleaning them more often because the dirt sticks easier to latex, which will break it down even quicker. Plus, with oil based paint you can most likely skip the primer step since the original finish is most likely oil based.
