After watching this for the first time in years, I just thought of something. Dark Gaia, as the embodiment of darkness, had no real reason to destroy the world, almost like it was just his function. Meanwhile, Chip, as Light Gaia, was kind of on the same page, but for light and rebuilding the world. And he never understood the beauty of the world he was tasked to defend, until he met and adventured with Sonic. Man, you just gotta love how character development goes.
This very scene is why Sonic Unleashed has my favorite story period. Not just in Sonic games, but compared to EVERY story the world has ever got to listen to at some point in history. Chip felt like a real friend to Sonic, and unpopular opinion: my favorite character in the series other than Sonic himself. Yes, I prefer him to Eggman, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, and whoever else you may name. I love this game, and it's story just elevates it so much. 2:52 'Do I need a reason to want to help out a friend?' is a quote I live by.

Say what you want about Unleashed, but to me, this game had the best character for Sonic. No matter what happens, he never lets any of his friends do something alone and is always there for them. I guess Frontiers did a good job with his character as well, but Unleashed handled it better to me.
My favorite part was how Chip said Sonic is too strong to give into darkness. That one of the reasons I love about him, and one of the reasons I hope IDW remembers

Since at least Chip didn’t become useless like everyone else. Seriously Chip is the only Sonic character who is useful besides Sonic himself, Classic Sonic, and the Forces OC. Also Chip was never mean to Sonic or was angry at him either. In fact he was really supportive especially during Sonic’s depressed moments. Although the part with Amy backfired, he still tried.
We need this kind of heart back in the Sonic games. Unleashed was the last main Sonic game the developers actually put effort into being creative and original with the worldbuilding, characterization, and art design. I haven’t looked at this game in years. But after a decade of meta era mediocrity and terrible, shallow characterization, watching these cutscenes felt like breathing fresh air again. You can tell the animators put a lot of soul into this - even the subtle body language coming from the characters just makes this feel so much more immersive and introspective. I don’t know how else to explain how I feel about the direction this series has taken in the last twelve years. And this is coming from someone who still really enjoyed what Colors, Generations, and Lost World had to offer. But something has been lost since 2010. I miss the old Sonic. Also, I have to ask…why does Sonic’s Unleashed character model STILL look better than anything we’ve seen since?

Why can't we have a reborn, incarnation or reincarnation of "Light Gaia" in future Sonic the Hedgehog series anymore? Since Chip died in the very end of Sonic Unleashed.
They really do need to remake this. They already did Sonic colors and generations is coming out this fall. Maybe we’ll get more of the story and maybe a better look at light Gaia’s past aka Chip. Then we can see first time he stopped Dark gaia and how they were created
