  • It's all about adapting to local tastes, and that's what fast food restaurants in China do super well. I'm always entertained by the new and inventive menu items I see, so I wanted to make a video about it!

    My father became durian addicted after a business trip to Malaysia. He then started hunting for all possible durian dishes in China and the durian pizza from Pizza Hut was his favorite. Like what you described in the video, my parents go to Pizza Hut regularly just for the durian pizza lol. I'm from Taipei, Taiwan, and my wife's from Beijing, China. I would have to say that the durian pizza is more like 4 cultures mashed into one, since durian has not become popular in neither Taipei nor Beijing until recent decade or two. It was more of Malay/Singapore specialty. So, that pizza is like a Chinese adaption of a Southeastern Asian fruit within an American interpretation of an Italian dish. (Pizza in Italy is usually thin-crusted and less heavy on the cheese.) Quite the fusion here. 8-)

    This is surprisingly so fascinating! It made me think just how Chinese might be thinking when they step into a "Chinese restaurant" in the west.
    Please explore more foods like that for us!!!

    Yes, you can find durian pizza here in Malaysia. If I am not mistaken, it was on Pizza Hut's menu 2 years ago, but it's not on the menu now. I think you still can find durian pizza somewhere else in Malaysia easily.

    Durian Pizzas are as equally guilty as Hawaiian Pizzas to Italians.

    • @MrLuca998
      @MrLuca998 Před 2 lety

      As an italian I think that Durian pizza is so bad that it can eventually become good (such as in math where minus X minus = plus) ahahaha
      Btw in future I would like to taste both pizzas but I think it will be very hard to "beat" our typical pizza !

    Shake Shack is very regional. While there are a few in California and other states, it is only really popular in its home on the East Coast. It's more of a novelty place out West.
