Hi everyone and welcome back to a Lukeovision video!
How exciting, Eurovision 2023 is upon us and so is national final season - I want to welcome you to a brand new series on this channel where we have a look at the National Finals of competing countries of ESC 2023.
This could come in the form of tops, bulk reactions, singular reactions, reviews or covers.
In today's video, I am having a look at MALTA and their national selection for the 23 contest in Liverpool, that's right Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC)
Now, there are 40 songs competing, so in this video I am listening to a compilation recap video with around 12 seconds per song, the aim is to see which songs stand out to me when they are played one after the other to see which gives the best instant impact and which peak my intrigue.
I'll then give my top, based on the clips.

I think it has to be between Brooke and Aidan. I hope Aidan doesn't have to be the runner-up for a second year in a row though, that would be tough.

- Fabrizio Faniello has already participated for Malta in 2001 and 2006
- Jessika has participated for San Marino alongside Jennifer Brening in 2018
- Eliana Gomez Blanco and Francesca Sciberras have both participated in JESC for Malta (2019, 2009)

Some generic but still lovable songs (perfect for a playlist), but some special entries suitable for Eurovision too 🤩 can’t wait how the selection turns out 😊 yay Malta, there’s something promising ahead 😃

i do think although some of the songs are quite underwhelming, this is actually a very underrated nf with a lot of potential.

Fabrizio has represented Malta twice in Eurovision(2001 where I think he placed 8th, and 2006 where he came last in the finale, I liked both of his former entries but 2001 was better, don't think he'll represent them this year though). And yes some of the songs sound a bit unfinished, but many of the entries I liked from what the 10 sec clip could provide, And 40 songs are a lot to keep track on, but it will most likely change a bit hearing them in full length.

We are running behind with all of the national finals after falling down a JESC rabbit hole, but these are our top 5:

2. Ryan Hill - In the Silence
3. Aidan - Regina
4. John Galea - Trailblazer
5. Ian - On my own
Found it difficult to navigate through so many songs, and take on board your views as many of them sound like they need a bit of a polish to get the best out of them. Hope Malta can do well this year. I preferred Emma Muscat's first song to last year's replacement song, but hopefully with so many songs to work on, they will do better.
