In the book Llewelyen picks up a young 14 year old female hitchhiker. Their interactions are completely non-sexual but she ends up getting killed with him. So of course the worst is assumed by everyone afterwards. Sad part is how Llewelyen’s actions got both that girl and his wife killed.
