Supposedly doing that line was all that was needed to for Josh Brolin to get the role.
I saw on another comment that had actual sources, but Brolin loved, and I mean *loved* Tommy Lee and his work, and had watched Men in Black so many times, when he came to audition he had everything down perfect.
I first learned about brolin when i saw this movie and i was freakin blown away. I always tell my friends "howdya know mah nayme" haha
Josh Brolin REALLY has Tommy Lee Jones speech patterns and mannerisms studied. Great work.
Man he been right there with Tommy making movies for years and he is very talented so yea he should be able to do it pretty easy actually! He been on a roll as of late he been Thanos, Cable, and tons of other roles that where really good to like this one!
Watching this scene as an adult I noticed how truly Tommy Lee Jones he was and it’s an incredible performance
I kind of hear his Llewelyn Moss Texas accent from No Country For Old Men, oddly enough TLJ is in that movie as well.

The look of distain on K's face when X just completely dismisses an aliens death as less important than a persons is perfect
I saw that too, that was really shocking and a nice bit of detail since we know later on how K feels about aliens.
I think in the comics they would rather kill any human witnesses. It's been a while

When X arrives, K quickly covers the weapons and the neuralizer that are on the desk.
I never noticed that before. It means that K really believes J is somewhat valuable and doesn't want external interference.
This also means that during the whole neuralizer sequence, K never wanted to neuralize J, it was always meant to be an effective way for making J talk

To be fair, he's hung up on the idea that Time Travel is a *super-bad thing* that people are *absolutely not supposed to know about.* After being an Agent for over 15 years, it was still something he wasn't supposed to know about, so he's really, REALLY trying NOT to break out the "I'm from the future" card.

Agent K used a retro neuralizer instead of the small battery powered one revealed much later in the film because he never wanted to erase Agent J’s memories. The intimidation factor of a neuralizer the size of an MRI machine played a significant role during the interrogation. It’s small details like this that make me appreciate the movie even more.

K's subtle disgust when the other guy dismisses the non-human death is nice. Also the way Brolin exudes that much more age and experience than Will despite him only being a year older than him.
Makes me wish we got a sequel following the young K instead of MIB international. Which was also my thought after watching MIB international.

Josh Brolin is such an underrated actor. His Tommy Lee Jones portrayal was perfect and he was amazing as Thanos as well
underrated? He is well paid an in several major movies of our generation. Learn a better word to express how you feel about successful actors. Being mainstream, which Josh is btw, does not make you better or worse but he is anything but underrated as an actor. The man played George Bush.

Because there kids films, and the adult jokes are well crafted, you notice them more as you get older. Its some very very very clever writing, go watch inside out for example, as an adult you get all the subtext

Which would probably be:
1) Tell us the pertinent details,
2) Fill-out this s**t-ton of paperwork while sitting in a quarantine bubble so you don't set off a plague,
3) shall we have the worms bring you some coffee?
Probably the first time.
They *do.* That much is made explicitly clear to J before he goes back in time.
The protocol is "No."
By the time of MIB3, J is one of the more senior agents in MIB, and he still didn't have clearance to know it even exists, so it is a *VERY* well-kept secret. The only reason they end up telling him and letting him go on the mission is because he is the only one who COULD due to his connection to the whole affair - and because the criminal in question has apparently himself gone back in time, so it is necessary to do so in order to catch him and fix the timeline.
Or. They didn't until J traveled back.

Josh nailed his part out of the park. This is my favorite movie of the series.
It's the only one that has a point outside the premise.

I think it was K's plan to shut off the neurolizer at the last second because he knew J would let something honest slip then and surely enough J accepts his fate knowing he won't be there to help K and tells him to kill Boris.

Listening to Josh talk with that accent makes me think he'd make an amazing Joel in The Last of Us.

I dunno what people didn’t like about this one. It’s definitely better than MIB2. It’s funny, has a decent twist ending, and it has heart.

Brolin as a young Tommy Lee Jones is a stroke of genius. It's rare to have a casting of the same character so masterfully chosen.
You gotta admire the way Will Smith just... rolls with words. Hard to tell if all his 'BS lines' are add-libbed or actually in the script.

Yeah, hi, I'd also to make a complaint!
Funny thing even though young K was 29 in the movie, Josh Brolin was 44 when he played the role, while Tommy Lee Jones, when he started playing K in 1997, was 51.
I remember watching this for the first time when I was little and I was fully convinced that Tommy Lee Jones just had makeup/effects on to make him look younger. Josh Brolin was the perfect choice for this role.
Dont let this guy meet Thanos.
In a side note: when I first saw this in theaters I was amazed how well Josh portrayed Tommy Lee Jones' character.

You can see K trying to find some fault, some flaw in J's explanation, some contradiction between what he's said and anything he's done up to this point, but it all fits.
The only remaining flaw is that I imagine K isn't yet aware of time travel, but he knows better than to dismiss something as impossible simply because he's never encountered it.

Ok, this movie isn't the best, but I kind of like the allusion to real life racism in this scene- when asked if there were any casualties, K replies that Roman died, but is then asked about human casualties, with the obvious implication that he doesn't care about dead aliens. K then shows noticeable irritation and says, "No, sir."
But its not racism, its speciesism.

But I think what everyone is talking about is when the avengers time travelled and interacted with a younger thanos. That's not thanos time traveling.
The alternate Thanos time travelled to the present to fight the Avengers in the final battle of Endgame.

Something I noticed was how the boss says “any human casualties?” as if the alien casualty didn’t matter. How the hell are you meant to run an alien organisation if you don’t care about the aliens’ lives?

I slept on this movie until it showed up on my Netflix feed, but it's so underrated. The 60's Sci-Fi costumes / makeup on all the background aliens is just perfect.
