Mumbai STREET Food Tour - Bombay Sandwich + Pancham Thali + Sardar Pav Bhaji

  • Mumbai is a buzzing metropolis and if you are wondering what keeps the mega city going then there are two evident answers: the unflinching spirit of the hardworking populace and the numerous hawkers thronging the streets, conjuring up scrumptious and affordable meals for all. The locals are extremely fond of the exciting and eclectic street food scene here.
Our food journey began with the ubiquitous Mumbai Sandwich. This hearty, golden, crisp on the outside and soft and spicy inside and humble vegetable white bread sandwich was stuffed with slices of boiled potatoes, capsicum, tomatoes and onion.
The second stop was a chai shop where we tried Mumbai’s famous cutting chai or half measured chai that was strong, milky and sweet enough to give you the kick to carry on.
Third thing that we had was the poha or a popular savoury breakfast preparation made of soaked flattened rice mixed with some cooked veggies primarily potatoes and onions and tempered with the distinctly flavourful mustard seeds, curry leaves and chillies and topped with sev and chopped onion. Along with it we also tried the upma which is almost a poha equivalent made up of semolina and is more soggy. All of these were accompanied with sambar and coconut chutney.
Our fourth stop the Yazdani bakery, an unassuming heritage eatery that has been around since 1951. We spoke to the endearing owner Parveen Yazdani who gave us a sneak peek into the history and the popularity of the place and its food. Sipping the chai and along with Brun maska, slightly crusted bun slathered with copious amounts of Amul butter, in the antique set up of this bakery was a surreal experience.
Fifth place was the legendary Pancham Pooriwala. The lip smacking Pancham thali, the winning combo of sada pooris and aamras and the enchanting crowd is a cogent combination of flavours, heritage and connections. The food here was an amazing amalgamation of flavours from UP, Punjab and Rajasthan.
Our sixth stop was Aram vada pav where we sank our teeth into the delicious Indian version of the burger. The contrasting tastes and textures of this no frill snacks synonymous with Mumbai is a hit.
After that instant carbohydrate boost we headed to the seventh spot to have a pan in order to cleanse our palate and prime it for more food. Pan is betel leaves topped with pulverised areca nuts and other condiments which is folded into a triangle and relished.
The eighth destination was Elco restaurant to try their famous sindhi style pani puris, sev puri, dahi puri and bhelpuri. All the stuffs were fresh, sensational and addictive.
Our final stop in this leg of Mumbai street food journey was the Sardar pav Bhaji that has been serving this quintessential Mumbai Street for over half a century. A scrumptious plate of buttery soft pavs and the mildly spiced, distinctly savoury and delicious bhaji made us realise why it is a celebrity.

Undoubtedly sir I liked this mumbai video alongwith your all other mumbai videos the most as mumbai is close to my heart.I stayed there for more than 40 years and bought and sold my own house in navi mumbai.I am in tears whenever I see or hear about mumbai food as it is the biggest thing I miss while staying in UP.You get almost nothing here in UP.The taste, quality, variety and price of food is better than every other city in India.I used to work in an office near new excelsior cinema which is closer to Aram vada pav.The person serving the wada pav used to have a thick moustache and was younger during those times. It is almost one of the best wada pavs you can ever have although mumbai is full of golden nuggets and hidden gems situated in every nook and corner of the city.Yes the sardar pav bhaji is the best pav bhaji in the world.Mumbai is such a big place that living there for more than 40 years has not been enough to discover all the golden nuggets in the western, central and harbour suburban lanes of the city. One thing that I also like about the city is you can travel by all means of transport that is bus, train, taxis and autorickshaws that are metered and you do not end up paying lot of money like here in UP on travel as you need to depend entirely on auto drivers who dictate prices and you do not have enough buses or the local rail to travel to various places.I miss Bombay the most although the only downside of Bombay could be the rent and overpricing of property available for sale.I gave this video a big like.I am a strict vegetarian and skip non vegetarian videos. But any mumbai vegetarian video has a big like from my side. Thanks a lot for reviving old memories.

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is India's largest city, also known as a financial center on the west coast of India. It is also famous as the center of the Bollywood movie industry. Anyway, it's a lively city. Food is also abundant. Bombay Sandwich is healthy as it contains only vegetables such as tomatoes and no beef. This is probably because there are many vegetarians. However, there are non-vegetarians in India, so there should be another menu shop. Mumbai is so diverse that it is full of places we don't know yet. Thank you, God.

Sandwiches look delicious and nutritious. I say everyone is delicious. There are various bakers. Mumbai has become quite urban. I think it's a global city and it's getting refined. Food and people who live there. All the food in Mumbai seems to be delicious. There are many types. I can not eat very much. It is a city that represents India. Thank you very much for raw India this time.
