  • Today, the stadiums of every major sport have luxury suites, VIP lounges, club seats, and ever more luxurious amenities. But NFL stadiums have the most by far. Why? Well, there's a bit of extra incentive that makes it extra worthwhile.

    My guess would’ve been that it’s because the NFL has only 8-9 home games per team instead of 41 or 81 like NBA, NHL and MLB. Meaning they need to generate more revenue per game by way of selling more high dollar suites.
    Interesting to learn that revenue from normal tickets is shared but earnings from suites and other premium spaces are not.

    After the Astrodome, two other stadiums in Texas pioneered luxury suites: the Dallas Cowboys' Texas Stadium in 1971, and the Houston Rockets' Summit in 1975. The Louisiana Superdome also boasted suites when it opened in 1975, and the Astrodome itself would get new suites (dubbed Star Columbia) when it was renovated in the '80s. However, Dallas's Reunion Arena was built in 1980 without suites, and that would lead the Mavericks and Stars to eventually demand a new arena.

    It is refreshing seeing old stadiums stay alive with few suites, accommodating the regular fans better in the face of making more money

    • @MrGoodeats
      @MrGoodeats Před 8 měsíci +1

      10,000 seats @$5,000/ticket + $275/seat on food = $52,750,000
      50,000 tickets @$350/ticket + $100/seat on food = $22,500,000
      Nah bud. Your math is way wrong. Appealing to the poor only makes sense from a standpoint of mass appeal such as for advertising or merchandise purchasing. If there were no additional revenue from advertising or merchandising there would be no reason to appeal to the poor.

    • @MrGoodeats
      @MrGoodeats Před 8 měsíci +1

      Though I agree the NFL should accommodate the regular fans it is absurd to propose that there is more money in that. There simply is not.

  • @davissae
    @davissae Před 8 měsíci +4

    The problem is there isn’t the 60 40 revenue sharing with the suites. That would curtail luxury suites in NY, Santa Clara, LA, Texas, Miami. No one is paying $40k to watch a game in Jacksonville.

    You didn't mention how often these suites are given away as bribes, I mean, gifts to clients... A lot of the money is for greasing the wheels of business and it can often be very questionable and unethical.

I.e oil and gas companies, engineering firms, etc. just because they CAN afford to do this to attract clients and others can’t doesn’t by any stretch of the imagination make it unethical

    I hate new stadiums and their suite focused design. imo the modern NFL stadium was started with AT&T stadium with its steep levels that include so many suites and their field level stuff that surrounds the field.
    The Palace may have had a lot of suites but the way they incorporated them was so there wasn’t a bad seat in the arena. These new stadiums and their abundance of suites not only ruins the look of the stadium but also the normal fan experience.
    sorry for the lil rant but this was a cool video, it’s cool to know that other ppl have also been noticing this

    Money. It’s also the Disneyland effect. Disneyland isn’t technically for one majority of class income demographic. It’s sets its prices to a medium where their prices appeal to upper-middle class people. Football stadiums also appeal to these demographic becuase they know they’ll pay

    Only a brief mention of government/taxpayer money involved? Los Angeles did not have a NFL team for quite a while as the City of L.A. refused to cough up funds or concessions to the league. The Rams owner finally built So-Fi stadium, but its in the smallish neighboring City of Ingelwood on the site of an old horse racing track, and I'm not sure what the city 'gave away' to get it built there. The Clippers (NBA) are building their own arena nearby, not sure of the financials on that either, but a recent TV program showed it will be loaded/saturated with luxury boxes and internet-connected systems monitoring your every move.

    $450k a year sounds cheap, i wonder does it give you access to all events, if it does a luxury box can comfortably host about 12 people and considering year round events. It is a pretty good price, not sure if this the updated price or price for the Palace when it first open.

      Not really being front row on the 50 year line is far better then being in a suite. Being front row are a major concert is much better. In fact those tickets are far harder to get and can go for far more on the open market.
      The luxury suites are pay for the stadium. But that's not where the die hard fans want to be.

    If you have 60,000 seats, and 1.2m fans. Then the more expensive the seats the more money you make. People will always show up.
    If people stop showing up, charge more, reduce the seats, add buffets and sofas, call it an exclusive luxury experience and you don't need to sell as many seats to make the same amount of money.
    At the same time, the people who can afford the seats are the sort of person who'll buy the seats so they can use them when they want them, but most the time they'll sit empty. The 0.1% have so much shit, it's impossible to appreciate. Several houses in multiple countries, hundreds of luxury cars, yatchs, jets, reservations at luxury restaurants, luxury suites. You and I are stumping up $200 for the one ticket in the rafters, once a year as a special treat or experience. They're dropping $50k on a suite in case they're in town when a football game is on.

  • @dane4073

    This assumes that the only sports are american, whilst the rest of the world plays real sport, in real stadia, where exec boxes pay huge amounts of cash into the team without using up too much space. This is an american issue based on your own social issues and flaws. Compete with the rest of us, in real sports, and come and see how its done.
