The Superbowl is the crowning achievement of the NFL. And there's no way the league lets the big game be hosted in one of these stadiums.

When given the opportunity to drop $100 for a ticket to see my beloved Raiders in the Super Bowl a mere 2 hour drive away on my birthday about 8 hours before kickoff…
I gave a hard no. I told my buddy he should go. But it is a weird vibe. The crowd is not partisan and mainly people who are there to say they were at the Super Bowl.

I would love a Super Bowl in the north. The game was designed to be an all-weather game. Not a track contest. Southern college teams wouldn't have nearly the success they have had in the playoff game if the games were in harsher elements.
With that said, I was bumped to see how the weather affected the Bucs-Pats this year, which to me was the most anticipated game (which doesn't include my favorite team.) I wouldn't like a team to be at a disadvantage due to the weather.

The weather can change a lot. I think Michigan defeated Ohio State in large part due to the weather. Michigan was tougher too which played a big role.
I get your point. And your reasoning is why the games will always be in good conditions. You are right. I just said what I said because personally I would like big games to be played in the North as well. A team like Notre Dame focuses so much on tight ends. They may have faired better versus Alabama last year had the conditions been bad.
All the NFL teams have to be balanced. But at college there certainly are some teams built for different conditions.

@@elh93 Of course it was impacted. The weather could have been much worse - but it was far from a fast track. The worse the weather becomes the more advantage goes to running teams. And Michigan had the better O-line and D-line. If the game was at Jerry's World, or a fast track, I think it would favor the Buckeyes.
I am not taking anything away from Michigan. It's Ryan Day's fault the Buckeyes are built like they are. They are built like a southern team playing in bad weather. Michigan wanted the game more and they were tougher. I am not sure why so many Michigan fans are gloating though. That's Michigan's 3rd win since Tressel was hired.

If Cleveland can manage the hotels rooms available requirement between the Cleveland Metro area and Akron/Canton, then Buffalo would actually be able to meet the hotel requirement due to it's proximity to Niagara Falls. Lots of folks forgot that Buffalo is within 30 minutes of the falls and the two Casinos in the area actually provide a large boost in the number of available rooms. But the weather would be the deal breaker... First Energy is cold AF in late season home games sitting on the South shore of the Lake, and one of the biggest complaints that Browns fans had was that the franchise refused to even consider a retractable roof on the stadium as it would've given us a chance at hosting the SB. But Buffalo sits deadass on the east end of the lake and gets pounded with even more snow and far more viciously cold winds late season. I give my uncles and cousins up there credit cause you gotta be hardy to live someplace that gets that cold and pounded with that much snow each year... but I'll stay my happy ass in Ohio, lol.

Cleveland has TONS of hotels. In 2016 we hosted the republican national convention (puke), and we still had TONS of available hotel space. At the time I worked at a hotel near the airport, and we were at 25% capacity, because there were so many options downtown.
There are hotels EVERYWHERE, and Cleveland is the biggest small city ever. What I mean by that is, Cleveland itself spans over 40 miles wide, plus all the suburbs make it over 100 miles wide. Yet, because of highways, and street designs, it doesn't take you anymore than 20 minutes to get to downtown, even from the farthest ends of the Cleveland area,. It's a massive sprawling area, that feels more like a series of small communities.
And 70% of our downtown is parking. You want to park? Go park. There is literally no possible way for us to run out of parking. We have more parking spaces than we have citizens.

the bigger concern with KC is that the town gets hammered by a storm ruining all of the festivities leading up to the Super Bowl. While weather isn't the reason it's not going to be there, no one is bending over backwards unless you're going to provide some upside like "New York" (cough Jersey cough).

The stadium is mere walking distance from Pioneer Square, it's right next to a highway off-ramp, which isn't I-5, mind you; I-5 is three blocks away on the other side. Seattle has enough problems housing their own residents, how in the hell would they fit another 100K people in maybe the most cramped corridor in the entire region?

Seattle's stadium is built to amplify crowd noise to the point it interferes with conduct of the game and can damage the hearing of people in the crowd (over 115 dB is unhealthy, Seattle reaches over 145). It is no place to hold a championship game.

Considering it’s a 13 year hiatus at the absolute minimum, don’t hold your breath. I’d expect to see the 9ers or Dallas host one before them who are also staring down 10+ year hiatuses. The pattern of Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, and Arizona hosting the vast majority will continue, just throw SoFi into the rotation now. It’s not a coincidence either that all these cities host the major college bowl games in January either.
It took 16 Super Bowls before the NFL left these cities when they started out and they’ve continued on with it for good reason. They’re good places to host the events.

@@24magiccarrot Honestly, it would be interesting if you had two warm-weather teams going into the Super Bowl, then you throw the "neutral ground" up in Green Bay or Minneapolis where both teams, both not accustomed to the cold, have to deal with freezing conditions as an ultimate test of skill. This is the Super Bowl after all and that would be a nice X-factor to throw in, especially considering the weather was part of the reason the Ice Bowl is known as such a great game. Alternatively, if you do end up with a Super Bowl between two cold-weather teams, why not just say cold weather stadium is fair neutral ground for that season and throw some cold stadiums into the mix?

I went to a Nationals game once in DC and I kid you not. There was ONE train that ran from the stadium after the game. It was absolute chaos. Impossible to get to by car, and the train was basically vacuum sealed with people. And this was a regular season nationals game back before they were even any good. I would assume it's the same thing for football. And as someone who lives near Chicago I could have said hell no to that stadium off the bat. There's no parking, no facilities and the stadium is right on the edge of the city so if there's a game or event there, you aren't getting into the city by car it just doesn't happen. Plus Chicago has the lake right there so it's not like you can really go around the stadium on the way in

The lack of a Super Bowl at First Energy Stadium is particularly devastating because it has never hosted a Browns playoff game either since opening in 1999.

There are hotels, lots of parking, and the stadium is easily accessible. The weather being right off Lake Erie in Feb can be awful. Super cold or a big snowstorm or both. Even a mild weather day is low to mid 30s or 40s. Off the lake it feels a lot colder. The only way a super bowl possible hosted there is to put a dome on it but still doubtful.

I grew up 40 miles from Buffalo. I think you are x the infrastructure. Although I’m confused, if Highmark is 50 years old then it used to be called Rich Stadium, I honestly thought they rebuilt it sometime since 1985. The stadium may not be up to snuff but the hotels and alternate practice facilities exist, SUNY Buffalo has a football program and that would also be true of many other towns. Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier has everything they need, well except for the stadium… as far as extra fun…Niagara falls in winter is amazing and there’s still lots of dining and nightlife in Buffalo.

As far as the road network, Buffalo was built for a much larger population than it has, so the highways into it are very high-capacity. The airport has a bunch of gates that aren't even used at the moment and it can handle much bigger aircraft than it currently sees. Depending on where the new stadium is built the proximity to the city might be better, and even if it isn't the tailgating in the lots is 90% of the fan experience anyways. Obviously the weather sucks but a Super Bowl is something that could really spur development, not just for Buffalo, but for other northern teams. I think a lot of the reason the infrastructure and hotel availability isn't always up to scratch is because they know they have slim chances of ever getting a Super Bowl, so there's no point investing in getting close to the requirements. Besides, a cold-weather Super Bowl doesn't "favor" anyone if it's two southern teams playing, just like warm-weather Super Bowls don't favor any two northern teams playing. Tampa and Las Vegas playing in Cleveland only favors the neutral!

Everybody here that wants to see the game played in cold weather needs to remember that the NFL and most people who aren't really football fans see the game as an afterthought. The League is far more invested in the pregame stuff and the halftime show than they are invested in the game no matter what the official position on this subject is. They are never going to accept a stadium where chances are high that some major music star has to try and put on a show in the middle of a rain or snow storm.
And honestly lets be real here. The number of interesting competitive Super Bowls is a pretty small percentage of the total number of times it's been played. With so many boring blow outs in the big game the NFL practically has to sell it as an event that is far more than just a championship game just to keep most people interested.
