Perhaps Spielberg found his accent being a nice touch to the film so he told him to keep it in there. Hiddleston can speak an american accent(midnight in paris), and I'm positive it wouldn't have crossed Spielberg's mine. So all in all, I bet Spielberg wanted it in.
