Ron has always seemed like such a humble guy....great actor...and found his niche directing...
Great actor?
@@hepfarms9101
Yep.
Yes, he was a humble & generous actor. For example, when Happy Days got started, it looked like his character Richie would be central. As Fonzie came more to to the foreground, Ron had no problem sharing more screentime with Henry Winkler. Ron was more interested in the quality of the ensemble than he was with being a star.
@@Trobtwillis And did you know they wanted to change the name of the show to Fonzies Happy Days but Henry Winkler refused to let them do it, it's not hard to see why they're still good friends to this day.
@@Trobtwillis you've made a strong case for him being a great person. I have never seen any evidence of him being a great actor though.
The world needs a Letterman 10 year retirement reunion show in 2025. National security depends on it!
Well - we get a partial reunion sometimes on "The Barbara Gaines Show".
Def miss his show.
Only if it includes Darlene Love singing Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)."
Yes. 1,000 x yes.
I sooo miss Dave. I haven’t watched any late night since he left
I've read an interview with Ron Howard about how Roger Corman mentored him on his first directing job about how to bring movies in on time and under budget, and he's followed that advice to this day.
Howard had Roger Corman play a smiling congressman early in the film that was threatening to take away the Apollo budget!
I read thar Ron complained about not hiring enough extras and Roger replied, If you do a good job you will never have to work for me again.
I really want to rewatch Grand Theft Auto again.
Opie - classic Dave
Yes, with all those accomplishments I still saw Opie standing there. Glad he said what we were thinking. Glad you mentioned it.
From Opie to the guy who makes hollywood knobends panic when the miss his call haha
1:32
No matter how much directorial success he has, Ron Howard will always first and foremost be remembered as the actor who played Opie and Richie.
"I'm recasting and putting my brother in your role."
"The actress playing the love scene with you isn't working out. So Clint will be playing her role instead."
@@andrewklang809 "The actress playing the love scene with you isn't feeling it. So Clint will be playing your role instead."
Forrest Gump 2: Gumpin’ it Up!
It's beginning to look a lot like Gumpmas...
you can tell he was an actor, because he sold those 10 really well
Ron Howard played the role of 8-year-old lisping Winthrop Paroo in the 1962 film The Music Man singing "Gary Indiana, Gary Indiana". But by then he had many acting roles before that one.
That was a classic. Good job, Dave and Ron! Yes!
Nicest TV kid ever...
Ron's first word, as he coughs, "Leno!"
We need another book compilation of Dave’s Top 10 lists.
I like how Dave and Paul spend the first 41 seconds really setting up the bit, like, making SURE that you REALLY KNOW what this is going to be about 😂
LOL! CoughOPIEcough!
Out of all the child actors from the past,......Ron Howard and Kurt Russell made it through.
Ever hear of Jodie Foster?
@@user-hn8lm8th8k ....maybe
@@user-hn8lm8th8kYeah, but she also left the country.
It is not RIP, just to assure everyone. It is likely because Ron has a Jim Henson documentary coming out. Ron also has gotten a little attention due to the recent death of Roger Corman. Ron being one of the directors who famously started under Corman.
I was actually worried about this for a second. I'm relieved to know he is fine.
"Grand Theft Auto", the 70's era movie
Opie Cunningham is the best child star to come out of Hollywood. He has always been adorable.
Gene Hackman said something similar to Number 8. He thought Hoosiers was going to be a flop and kill his career. He said to the producer and director it would be in a Bargain Bin in their local supermarket and the only people who would remember it would be them
It was inducted onto the National Film Registry in 2001
Yet, I've never heard of it. Looks like I'm going to have to correct that!
He could win 10 Academy Awards, he'll always be Opie.
Or Richie Cunningham.
Worse things to be known for
"I appreciate the oversell you've given to this bit"
I was there that night and swapped ties with Letterman, which he re-gifted which you can see at the end of the clip. Ron Howard got the tie I gave to Dave.

Otis & Earnest T. Bass are in town.. and they're both drunk!
1:31 had me ROFLMAO....😅😅😅
The Cough is Hysterical From Dave😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Sigh, Teri Garr in the shower, that was tv’s greatest moment ever
When (in what) did that happen??
Which movie?!
@@sofiae323 Letterman show, he and Terri had a running gag where he tried to convince her to be interviewed while taking a shower and she kept putting him off. Went on for years until she finally gave in on it. She looked pretty epic taking a shower although you never really saw any of the naughty bits.
@@maxswenson6605 I used to watch it but somehow missed the gag 😅✌🏼
He was Richie Cunningham to me.
I remember when he hosted SNL. And there was this weekend update bit with Eddie Murphy. Where he just chanted Opie Cunningham to Ron Howard.
3:08 Whatever you say, Cunningham.😁
Very good actor too.
Remember when he was on Happy Days for a very few years?
Back when late nights were entertaining. Too bad I worked night shift from 1982 until about 1999 and missed so many of them.
Dave coughed what we all thought.
Howard said he was in film school, when he tried t` make a short, called "Opie Gets Laid" ! yukyuk
Guitar player is killin' on the out bumper.
Sid McGinnis
What was the song band played for intro/outro?
@@OccidentalonPurpose Bryan Adams - "Cuts Like A Knife" (1983)
@@bossfan49 ahhh YES! NOW I remember it! Thanks!
Ron and I are the same age.
He always seems nice on Talk Shows. 😊
Arrested development
And here I expected #1 to be: "You know what? It's better with the lens cap ON."
No program I miss more.
Here's one:
"Hey everyone, I just hired Carrot Top to be in the lead role."
He’s still Opie to me
Hey, look! He's not wearing a hat!
Opie!
The #1 Thing You Don’t Want To Hear From Your Director: “We’re adapting a Dan Brown novel!”
love dave miss you
Ron Howard is OP.
And number 11. “Kathleen Kennedy is going to fire me because we have creative differences.”
Opie Cunningham
What’s a DVD?
Opie...
IMHO
Or the children there of.
March 20, 2026. The 2026 Awakening.
OOOH! -- #2 is BAD!
I can think of ten worst things heard from your director, including... _"Get the hell off my set; you're fired!"_
# 1: Hi. I'm Ron Howard, and I just made a sequel to Rush.
All respect to Howard as a skilled journeyman filmmaker, but the fact that he won Best Director over David Lynch’s work on “Mulholland Drive” tells you all you need to know about how seriously to take the Oscars.
Howard deserved it for "A Beautiful Mind." The Oscar's got that one right.
I do love "Mulholland Drive," though.
I never realized how annoying Paul was until I started watching this old clips from Letterman.
😂😂😂😂
Paul is so annoying.
This was weak sauce sadly.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂 hi dear guys
❌From the 'DA VINCI CODE' intro to the ❌'HANKS' (married to a Wilson, FYI...) outro:
OSCAR? But OF COURSE
🇺🇸🇺🇦❤🤍💙💛🌹🇮🇱🤍💙
I find it unbelievable that Letterman was successful. I think he was awful in so many ways
Coulda been so much funnier.
Ya... Opie deserved better.
He is bald
Narrator: "He isn't."

Thank you, Mr. Ron Howard
…. and so is your eagle. Ron Howard probably lost his hair at the same time you lost the ability to make humorous comments on CZcams.
No cap
Hiiiii
Hola!
They recently thought about making a "Top Ten Joe Biden Accomplishments" but for some reason they couldn't find any.
Are there any apps that are not a joke for kids and gay trans or small people or stupid family members.
Not funny at all.
Sorry. Not funny.
What a waste of time and Letterman's antics are so dated and irrelevant.
I always thought the cinematographer was in charge of the lens cap.
It's a Happy Days reference.
No, it's a union rule, the director MUST remove the lens cap.
Wow, that was terrible.
Thank of all the residual cks he is getting just from his childhood years.
As Opie, Richie, and in whats that movie by another famous director.
At least I hope he is getting residual off those.
