As someone who moved to Warrington from Scotland 7 years' ago, I love the transport system (direct to London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Chester) & how flat the georgraphy is. The town centre is quite modern, with lots of investment & the car park is very cheap - all big ticks! Plenty to do, lots of shopping outlets. On the cons, I'm not a fan of the drinking areas where the old nightclubs are - but i can see it slowly getting better. Really pleased to see the council are encouraging resotration of many old buildings - though the incoming sub-saharan migrant wave will drag it back down no doubt - seen some masked characters in broad daylight stealing bikes outside the council office. Palmyra square is nice - but they chopped half the trees down. The shopping centre has lost some appeal since Debenhams closed their shops & liquidated. Still, I'm quietly optimistic!
Still live here, we don’t go out anymore coz the nightlife is crap, but we can always get a takeaway 😅 they have invested a lot but honestly we want a day out we go Manchester or Liverpool xxx
The first part of your visit was Bridge Street which is the centre of the night time economy, hence all the take-aways and closed frontages. It is very busy at night at weekends.
It’s funny how perception is different based in where you come from. I’ve read in the comments how some have stated that the town is run down. As an American who visited Warrington to visit friends, I found Warrington quite charming the people very friendly, and the town was very walker friendly (didn’t have a car) and loved that I was in close walking distance to shops and train stations 🙂
The Winwick Quay! I pulled the very first pint there when it opened. It was a pint of Trophy Bitter, it was £1.29 and it was to our first customer, an old gentleman called Arthur who will be long gone by now.
Bridge street in the 80s and 90s was brilliant ...the lion hotel had rock nights Thursday up stairs Friday downstairs in the back bar and upstairs Saturday with Bob rock many good memories .don't know if you remember CJ's at the back of Woolworths and the Carlton club and don't forget legends ....Yep Warrington has changed but not for the better. I grew up in birchwood moved there in 1978 many fond memories.
I lived in Warrington for 2 years, and we only moved back south last July because we had a child. Unfortunately every town centre is dying. Where we now live (Burgess Hill, West Sussex) is worse than Warrington by far. I loved Warrington, even if its dying, as Warrington is still a hidden gem. I have high hopes for the town, so Maybe one day it'll grow again.
@@maccman1900 I'm sure that canopy was the old fish market. I could smell the fish as you walked through! I left there in 1970 when there was still traffic at Market Gate and Sankey Street was open to traffic. Loved seeing the Feathers and the Red Lion in Bridge Street. Amazed they are still going.
You can gain access to the church next to tesco , it's an indoor climbing wall , the wall with the names on has been there when the stadium was built , not a new edition, and you can park on tesco on match day , as a season ticket holder myself for 19 years ,I park on here every game .

I remember the old Warrington market that I used to love going to. Go into town every now and then for work and the town has gone downhill really badly. I’ve moved away nearly 4 years ago thank the lord
Warrington. It's a shadow of its former self. The Council love fires here so they can hand out contracts to their builder mates. It's a town of boxes in the centre now. Car washes, barber shops, filthy fast food shops (for the drunks) and foreigners pushing prams around on the outskirts of the town. Millions spent on 'improvements' no one asked for or needed. WBC are going for city status. Again, not wanted or needed. It won't stop WBC though. That lot are feathering their nest well and truly regardless of what the locals think.
@@maccman1900 I wish you could go back in time and make a video of how it used to be. Great memories of The ABC, the Odeon (where we'd all club together to buy a ticket and then one would go in and open the fire doors at the back to let the rest of us in). The Hogey wagon at bridge foot for a 'hogey' or soup or that bloke across the road from central station who used to sell burgers in the car park from a van. Always there rain or shine! Do you remember those? Happy days!
@@michaelbell6916 Ha, ha,. I don't remember the fag ash on the hogies only at the bottom of cups of soup. came across you and your vlogs by chance, like this one especially as im warrington born and bred but im still here lol..This town has changed vastly and personally,i dont think for the better, thank you, have fun.
Nice video, thanks. I grew up in the area through the 60's and 70's. Different town now, progress, eh? I vividly remember 2 way traffic on Sankey Street, hard to imagine nowadays. Years ago I heardthat the corporation buses were specially made to a non standard, narrower 7' 6" width because of the narrow roads. Dunno if thst's true but makes sense. Most towns are on their knees now but it's a shame to see the decline.
they started shutting all the nightclubs and pubs down because theyre trying to clean up the place with cocktail bars and restaurants. they only made it worse. its a shit hole these days
Top quality video as always. Surprised how quiet Warrington was when you visited. Nice colours coming from that camera. Did you use the action 3 on this one.
Thanks for this insight Mark... Didn't realise you were a Wire. I've never been to the Wolves ground but I found it interesting because I played at the Wilderspool in the 70's. When are you coming to Headingly 😉
Everyone in the comments slagging the place off. But as you said it's the same in every town. I happen to think warrington is one of the better ones, 5 minutes up the road Widnes is a much more run down for example
