      I've been getting more into Sun ra recently, perhaps a lot later than i should.. It's mad how different, alien, familiar and similar to stuff i thought i didn't have time for now seems deeply relevant and necessary..

      I do love this album. I borrowed it from a library. I came to Sun Ra through Shpongle that sampled his work, particularly "space is the place". When I was last in the mood for this it wasn't uploaded in the form of one discrete album. I am joyful this has been repaired. I look forward to reading the annotations here in future . But first, sleep...

      @jakobhellberg7622 Před 2 lety +5

      @@ryanbumgarner6388 no it's not; it was his second album för the the Transition label; unfortunately, the label folded before this album came out and it didn't see full release until the late 60s when Chicago label Delmark purchased the Transition catalog. In the meantime, Sun Ra had either re-recorded *or* put these songs out as they were on various albums on his Saturn label which might lead one to believe this is a comp; it's not though-it's his "proper" second album...

    This album was originally recorded in 1958, but Delmark went bust. It was issued a decade later. Sun Ra was so far ahead of his time, that he left it completely.
    No Parliament, Primal Scream, or Iggy Pop without him.

    7:27 The theme/head on Two Tones is out of this world. Subtly weird intervals and timing, almost Monk-like.
    & Paradise 11:08 is absolutely gorgeous - like Chopin & Debussy playing jazz in a funky African groove.

      Yeah--WTF? Maybe someone didn't realize that these "bonus" unissued vinyls should be played at a different RPM. It sounds better at 1.5 speed on CZcams.

      I don't really like it when labels decide to ruin albums with extra tracks. The worst ever example of this for me was when Sonic Youth put Bubblegum on the end of Evol. It's meant to end with a locked groove of wailing guitars, but it ends with a pop song. Just terrible.
