I'm glad I got to see Ra four times at the later part of his career in the '80s and early 90s and then I actually attended his funeral in 93 in Birmingham Alabama

if anybody here watched the anime "cowboy bebop", im almost certain they were influenced by Sun Ra, cus they use jazz in the soundtrack and feature space heavily. i saw the anime way before i listened to Sun Ra, and am very glad that there is a big source for space jazzy stuff besides just one show!

yeah i'm pretty sure Yoko Kanno (the music person on cowboy bebop) is a huge fan of jazz (alotta japanese are... jazz used to be HUGE in japan.. theres actually some great live albums from a lot jazz guys like Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock for instance that were recorded in Japan) so anyway yeah I'm sure she knows of sun ra!

S'il y a un album qui soit le filigrane élevé de l'avant-garde, alors c'est celui-ci. L'équivalent musical d'une peinture de Salvador Dali, Sun Râ peint un paysage où toutes les horloges ont fondues, la logique s'est transformée et a été délibérément obscurcie par le hasard apparent. A l’écoute, ce qui semble être dissonances est en fait une sculpture dense malgré parfois quelques digressions baveuses, hautement travaillée de polyrythmies et de thèmes musicaux qui s'accordent avec la poésie absurde et ludique des compositeurs de cette époque 👀
