I saw and experienced RA 3 times in the late 80s and early 90s and even went to his funeral in Alabama in 1993. Sonny was a gifted human being in this world and the next.

Unfortunately, I never experienced the Arkestra live, having not even discovered Sun Ra until the late 90's. However, judging solely from the audio, I can tell this was an amazing show!! I've seen a video or two of them live in earlier years, and it was AWESOME, so I can't imagine anything less with this one. Sun Ra was truly OUT OF THIS WORLD!!

Michael you had to be there.. saw Sun Ra and full Arkestra dozens of times .. when they had the great John Gilmore on tenor sax and Pat Patrick on baritone, among others. ( first time in 1969').. between the incredible music , the group of dancers that performed with the arkestra, and the amazing vocals of June Tyson it was really a life-changing experience as per music..as great as it is listening to this incredible music or watching old concerts on say CZcams i will tell you that it was beyond words when you saw it live back in the day... Straight ahead ..

Saw them a half dozen or so times between 1982 & 1991, by then they were a shadow of their former greatness, but nevertheless, very Memorable Occasions. I was born 1960, was only expanding my musical horizons beyond the Zappa, Euro Prog, Grateful Dead I'd gotten into in high school, & the Fusion Jazz I got into in College, so in my early 20's, the 1st couple times were a little over my head, but eventually "Got It".
One time (1987?) was at a punk club in New Haven ("The Grotto"), those spiked hairdo Freaks got to meet an Arkestra of Freeks on a whole new level! Was in the bathroom & the Arkestra guys were Celebrating one of their members just getting out on parole that day. A Joyous occasion! We shared a J of the Kind in Celebration! Fun times!

I heard the great Charles Davis on baritone sax (e.g. a bari solo on "Untitled Improvisation II").

Imagine being able to see this and then drive down to DC to see the Grateful Dead lay waste to RFK stadium just a few days later. Ah, the good old days! Almost makes me miss Nixon. 😂

@@intergalaxtic Jason thank you for the upload of great music...i met Sun Ra several times ( along with the members of the arkestra way back in the day. )(early - mid 1970s)..before & after club dates in NYC.. they were all very friendly and quite intelligent cats.. especially one memorable conversation after a club date at the old jazz club the Five Spot with a few members of the band.. again thank you for the great music.
