There will be two types of people in the comment section on this video, there will be some that love the idea of times gone by where they enjoyed a car like this.
And then I’ll be the other people that will just say NO 😂😂
I've been looking at the vtr for about a year now I agree I think there a good buy even though about swapping one for my st 😂 😂
Had one a year or two ago...get the vts or convert a vtr to 16v.
Ordered some of your air fresheners bud 👌🏻 changing motor soon to accommodate new born then she can get the FYD sticker treatment
andrew wright just buy a vts
@@edh7492 vts cost way too much now. They are the cars that will pick up in value, vtr is ten a penny for now but will never be a top end spec car so not worth investment.
Harsh...but fair.
Have to agree, they'll definitely go up in value. I'd have the 106 over it all day long but the Saxo VTR is definitely a good cheaper alternative
This took me back to the early noughties when there was tonnes of these on the road helped by the cheap insurance for young drivers Citroen offered at time. Scrappage schemes have a lot to answer for and have flushed away our motoring history for shit euro boxes with no soul.
Spot on mate.
I’m 15 and I am gonna buy one!
I got one brand new with the free insurance back in 2002. Loved it and wish I kept it. This video brought back so many memories.
I owned a VTR for 10 years and loved the way it handled. Spent way too much money on it for the handling, brakes exhaust, VTS alloys (new from citroen at the time) over my time with it. It wasnt quick but nippy, but it handled exceptionally well and miss it now after 8 years.
Nice to see some VTR/French hatch content. I've got a polar white VTR which I've daily driven for 5 years, it's great fun and still puts a smile on my face. Forget straight line speed, they're all about the twisty stuff!!
I had one of these in Posi blue for 5 years and absolutely loved it. It was bloody brilliant on snow covered roads!
I actually bought a VTR about a month ago! Mint condition, 125k miles, MOT till March next year for £800. Best decision I've ever made
I had a black saxo VTR as my first car once passing my test, absolutely loved it taught me a lot about cars especially fixing them 😂
Always wanted to try one of these the standard saxo was my first car and I loved it so much so only can imagine how fun the VTR and VTS ones are
I remember the mk1 on v rally bita retro ps1 memories lol
When I passed my test, this was the car everyone wanted!
I had a 1.1 “desire” in blue. Wrote it off the day after I passed so good job I couldn’t afford to have the VTR 😂
Bought a black VTR 7 weeks ago. Loving it
Loved my VTR back in the day .. tuned up it was a very nippy car 👍✌️
I own a dark green '98 vtr, bought it 6,5 years ago with 106k km. Currently on 158k km. Great little car, never fails and cheap to run. Quite fast too. Never did any mods to it, apart for different and wider rims and tyres, which were already installed when I bought it
I bought a Poseidon blue VTR brand new in 1999 when they came with 2 years free insurance. It really was a stroke of genius for Citroen to offer that and younger drivers bought them by the bucketload and they were everywhere. Fun nippy little car and I had 7 years of trouble free motoring with mine. 👍🏻
I had a saxo VTR in silver and I loved it it was rapid I used to blitz more or less anything around the streets my favourite car I’ve had
11 months on and up in money already👌. A have a vts av had for 11 years stored away☺️ love them
I’ve recently just got a c2 vts which is what the Saxo turned into correct me if I’m wrong. Gotta love a saxo, brings me back to being a wee kid and watching out the window with my mum as the 106’s and saxo’s etc raced each other down the carriageway by the end of my road. Love the old “hot” hatches!
I have the same vent on my '53 1.1L Desire! It is awesome
I had a 98 r reg vts in dark green metallic great car the early ones ,vtr and vts had the best interior !😊
Amazon green
Takes me back to the old days my mates had these and I had a mk5 fiesta Zetec-s good times
Not a saxo, but my daily for work is a C2 VTS, fun car to drive on the b roads smashing that limiter 👍
Yes they are good I had vtr one in blue at 18 years old loved it the insurance was bad for me but I wanted it so I paid lol but had to sale it. I am 32 now but never forget that car
My 2001 gold VTR is in my friends garage being stored. Need to get it out and do it up sooner than later!
just bought a VTR and it is super fun!
bought a brand new one in 2001, brilliant little car to drive. One of the most fun cars I´ve eve owned. Ha, my ex mrs used to say why do you have to drive so fast.... er.. :D
Just bought one Jamie, red 86k miles, less than a bag of sand and it's a whole lotta fun coming from a Lancer GSR!
Hi had silver one like this a few years back.
Great little cars, handle like there on rails.
Last of the no fills. safety last , just you a light weight tin can hot hatche
Very underrated
Fond memories of my red SaxonVTR bought inn1998, sold it 2005 all still original.
Fun fun car to drive.
After owning around 10 of these you need to check rear axel as they are common with the tosh beam.the wheels rub on the inside.
I remember seeing this car on Max Power back in the day. haha!
Cracking little cars the little 1.6 8v engines are brilliant tbh! Ive had 2 saxo vtrs and a vtr engine swapped 106 all of them took abuse on the daily without issue!! The rear bars are abit of a ball acke but apart from that quality little cars 👌👌👌
I'd love a pre facelift Saxo VTS. The facelift never really did much for me.
Must admit i have a real soft spot for these cars, My first car was a 1.1 8v 1997 Saxo with NO trimmings at 17, Over the years ive had well over 50 pugs my best one being a white 306 GTI6 Still wish i had kept it,
But in my opinion the saxo has the baddest handling out of them all for some reason the back end feels lighter than the identical 106 and feels more twitchy when taking bends over 100mph, Same setup same car underneath but for some reason i feel more confident on corners in the pugs, Just subbed man keep up the good work
the vts was quicker than the gti 0-60 due to a longer second gear
I remember being in primary school swearing blind that I would have smoked clear rear lights on my Saxo one day.
Haha, i don't like them to be honest.
You get the rasp just like the 16v as long as you have a quiet maybe even standard back box coupled with a 4 branch manifold 👌.
What I always loved about the VTR was the way that Citroen got the VTR 0-60 time down, by adjusting the gearing on second gear so you did not have to change up to third to get it to 60, but then it did love to REV in any gear. If you have never driven one imagine driving a Go-Cart with a body shell on it, you wont be far off at that.
Just don't get me started on the shit power steering pump they fitted to them. Last time I had to take a hammer that often to something under the bonnet of a car was a Mk1 Fiesta starter motor. Lost count on how many I changed over the 5 years I had mine.
I now have owned this exact car for a while now front end has been rebuilt clean mot no rust
Had a VTR for a couple of years but always preferred my AX GT 500. That thing was nuts and almost impossible to keep on the road in the wet.
Had a vtr but got a 106 quicky now, gotta love em
Had one loved it, yes buy one but remember if you are involved in pretty much any type of crash you ain't walking out in great shape.
I had one from new one of the best cars I’ve had 👍 sunroof leaked though and to get it refitted
I’ve had two cherry red vtrs was brilliant little cars ! (Wish I still had it tbh)
I have my old vtr in my shed that I planned to restore but for the price the inner wings go for these days (common rot area) it’s probably cheaper to buy a whole new car!
I still have mine and having great fun with it
My cousin's mate had a yellow vtr nearly new and I was envious but he didnt have it long then he binned it in a field Haha but still owed money on finance
Absolutely loved these as a kid! Still would love one of these!! Would happily take a VTR instead of a VTS as there getting fewer and fewer of them every year!
What's the difference between a vtr & vts
@@jameswilson8820 engine size I think mainly. Could be wrong 😂
James Wilson vtr is 1.6 8v 100hp vts is 1.6 16v 120hp
I had a VTR in poisden blue wasn’t a big fan and sold it straight on again
There still gorgeous I wanted one so badly back in the day
I had a mk1 vtr that I bought standard and did a full vts conversion. That rusted out so I bought a 03 posi blue vts for 250 quid and it was only on 60k. I wish I kept it looking at prices now
Even though I loved the Citroen AX-GT I never warmed to the Saxo, I think it's because of the tacky "Max Power" image it had, the 106 is one of my favorite pocket rockets though!
Exactly the image that makes people hate you when you smoke them in it...
I had a VTR back around 2011 for a couple of years. They weren't the quickest but heaps of fun. Should you buy one today? Not unless you are prepared to spend time and money on welding up the rusty inner arches and having the rear axle refurbished. These areas were very common back when I had one ten years ago so I'd hate to imagine how bad they'd be now.
That said they were such fun with so many aftermarket parts available you can modify them in almost any way.
I really want one but would have to sell my 1.1 saxo and I can't part with it
Was my first car a green VTR, loved it to be fair.
VTS is about £2000 minimum now and VTR is still cheap as chips. Bought my VTR August last year (2019) and I’ve still got it. Bought it for £400 and it passed its last MOT with no ads so very good buy. I’ve had my licence for 4 years, had 4 saxos and nothing else so fair to say I love the saxo haha
I just paid 400 quid for a rust free VTR, done 108k miles and all it really wanted was a vacuum pipe and an idle control valve
My first and only car! 19 years old. Here in the Netherlands it is called a vts 1.6 8v. Bought mine for €150. 😂 its a blast. That silver one looks a lot like mine. Mines got 16s ozs under it tho. Great vid!
So if u call the VTR a vts what u calling a genuine vts 16v? Just wondering no being smart
Lee Milligan it is also called a vts.
I want to by a vts i am hyped with this car.
Love these cars got two gold ones atm
Same man I got a gold mk2 and a posi blue Mk1 vts I love the gold though everyone hates it 😂
Simple answer is yes, i owned a 1.1 and been dreaming of having the hot boi version ever since fantastic car
Cheers Jamie for good review on the vtr
LET THE HATE COME
Nice meeting you bud
Welcome the hate! They’ll always be out there, especially when you drive an old french hatchback in a sea of 20 plate financed German cars!
Enjoy it, it’s good for your soul and bad for theirs haha
Try the xsara vts 1,6 or the 2.0 liters 167hp N/A
My moms first car was a orangey/yellow saxo furio😀👍🏻
saxo is very tidy! its a good idea to buy now i gess the 106 gti n saxo vtr will rocket up in price like the 205gti 1day would swap the lump to vts 16v cheap easy swap!
I remember when all my mates bought these because Citroen were offering a years free insurance, thats the only reason they sold so many.
Just bought a 106 gti found it in a barn been stored for 3 years absolutely made up with it.... £700 😎👍👍
Cost me 2k 12 years ago, probably spent that twice over keeping the pos on the road. Loved every minute tho, nearly died in a vtr many, many times 😂
Lovely Jubbly, two great cars, but please clean you steering wheel, a LIGHT going over with a magic eraser, will look like new.
Used to love hunting these down in my nova Sri in the day. The look on there faces everytime.
What do you thinkg about C4 VTS 180hp?
Nice vid. Please get a standard 205 GTi on the channel.
Great car! But I prefer the Fiesta Zetec-S from the same era
Ive had a mk5 zetec S puma conversion and a VTR. As much as i loved the Fiesta, the VTR was the better car.
There both same cars underneath same chasiss etc just design is diffrent you would find on 106 in places on the engine there will be citroen logos it might be gti n vts that share engines not vtr
I not have a big money, but I have a red/ with (70/30%) XR 3 Mk lll ...
When people just bought a back box...those were the days !
Well I got one 2 weeks after watching this and staring at my 1.1 lol.. yeaaa. It goes allright even with mods that make it slower lol
100% and a VTS
had a furio 1st car. was decent
Just sold mine today gutted future classics
U need to back to black the trim on the 106 then it will look 💯
the vts was quicker than the gti 0-60 due to a longer second gear
Personally prefer the vtr to the vts the vtr is a stronger option more torque and will take a fair wack of boost and abuse 20bhp difference ill stick with an 8v
My first car was a vts . Nearly 2k to insure it😣 fun little car.
I think most of these rusted away by now.
First car? 1.6 and 120bhp?
@@vp5 it was the 90s no one bothed with small litre cars
remember when the roads were littered with VTRs and the more desirable VTS's in the early noughties. Guess the majority were written off or rotted away.
yes.
Omg do it do it do it
I own a 106 quicksilver and currently in the process of doing it up. Do you think of these as like a vtr version of the vts?
GTI conversion would be better, to keep it authentic.
Quicksilver is a like a saxo furio.
1.4 8v 75bhp
Nice little cars and do have a bit of get up and go in them.
The quicksilvers are starting to go up in value now.
But if you want more power we'll worth sticking a gti or vts engine in
I have a silver VTS looking to sell, not sure how much it’s worth though?
Much you want for it?
im interested in a focus st170
Had one in magnum grey for 5 years great car, wasent that quick but i had dreamsience map on it for high octane fuel, it was fair bit quicker then 👍
They were if i remember correctly 7.9 to sixty and 135mph from factory...thats another car that will go up in value in years to come!
Have to pay at least £1500+ for nice example at the mo😁
I had 2 vtr’s and combined I paid less than £1000. One blew up (my fault) the other i had to sell due to starting a family. Brilliant little cars, only 100bhp but it felt like a Bugatti veyron 🤣
Got the Citroen c2 vts makes about 92kw’s... its okay.........
Under a grand for a vtr?
Don't know what that music is at the beggining,it's mint! I was watching Kenny KO last night and he had it on in part of his video !
czcams.com/video/OJhqsUnKUWw/video.html
Thanks 🙂
Thanks to you, found it at last !👍
@@ASH.......................1976 no worries bro
Anixto Ride or Die !!
VTS is the one you want with under 200 only on the road and 1000 SORN
VTR vts worth buying
Never had 106/Saxo but plenty of mates have... when he got in the vtr i just thought "i can smell it" anyone elsE? that saxo smell !!
Had 4 vtr and now I've got a vts that I'll never sell
One of the fellas..
Vtr, vts difference?
Vtr 8v, vts 16v
@@maxfactor9148 Vtr 100bhp. Vts 120bhp
My mom sold her Saxo for like $1000 after 20 years of abuse it was not in the best shape, but still drove. Very very good gas milage but french cars = rust
Hmmmm do I buy one?….
