I’m by no means a Citroen fanboy, but I’d do anything to see them making cars like the C1, C2, Saxo etc again. It’s so sad that they’ve moved away from small cars and only make horrible crossovers etc.

Theres a weird little key turning trick but it seemed turning it off and on a few times did the job. Super stoked that you've given it a new lease of life anyway, it looks awesome and good luck to the new owner. PS if the new owner wants the original radio and owners manual just get in touch. Hi! Yes, it's the ORIGINAL ENGINE! It also has the original gearbox and had the original clutch until December 2022! This car came to us from an elderly relative when it was five years old and had done only 7500 miles. This relative had had Ford do all the time-interval servicing, and so few engines have had such a wonderful running in. We have had everything repaired as it has gone wrong, and the car drives perfectly. Nothing rattles. Nothing feels tired. It is our only car and is regularly trusted with very long journeys. Unfortunately, the body has been a problem in recent years requiring a lot of welding which we have felt was worthwhile!@@Josh-qm4rb

My very first car was a silver 53 plate 1.1 desire.
Bought it for £350, it had a weeks MOT left on it, only done 32k miles, owner thought it was going to fail, it passed with one advisory being a tyre.
Sold it a year later for £500.
It was hands down the most reliable car I owned. And probably the most fun for chucking around corners like the little go kart it was 😂

These are a very rare sight, as you say they were everywhere once. I think these were offered with free insurance back in the day hence they were popular with young drivers and obviously modified them as there were a lot of parts available for the Saxo. I did spot the timing belt cover is missing and it’s exposed though.
Basic motoring is sometimes nice, less to go wrong. Great you have kept this one going and once again a great video too.

Speaking of the Ford Puma, the blob, not the cool coupe, had the unfortunate experience of travelling in one recently and realised that the roof drops at such an angle that you feel like you are being crushed. A really good car for someone. I hope they cherish it and treat the small amount of rust with a liquid curing compound, then give it two coats of touchup and one of lacquer to seal the paint. Personally, I'd do the entire floorpan with Hammerite underseal with added waxoyl as well. Most cars never need be scrapped for want of a bit of care.

The C2 was more fun than people give credit for, but when I borrowed the parent's second car, a well looked after Saxo 1.1 Eastcoast, I could not believe how bad the brakes were! Nor could I have coped with the tiny, offset to the left pedal box, if it had been my own. (it had to be that way to make space for the wheel arch!) Anyway, as fun as it was, the C2 was to be my last Citroen. Very cheap materials, fairly well put together. It was never going to last though.

If I had to put money on a 23-year-old Citroen or a 23-year-old Honda passing an MOT, I'd put everything on the Citroen. They might have all the inherent quality of an Airfix model kit, but they're not prone to serious rust unless they're badly abused. You should have bought a Rover 400 rather than a Civic, as while they're mechanically identical cars other than their engines and gearboxes, Longbridge's rustproofing process seemed to be considerably more thorough than Swindon's.
