  • So after years with my trusted ultimate direction mountain vest - I switched over….And so far very impressed.
    The Salomon sense pro 10 feels and fits amazingly. So light, comfortable and has great, accessible storage.
    Here’s my thoughts.

    Solid looking vest. I like that those pockets under the armpits aren't zippered. I have the hardest time with my Nathan vest getting things out of those pockets. This style looks more doable. I love everything else about my Nathan, though. Also like how the front harness is just some shockcord and hooks. No messing around with buckles. Great stuff!

      Thanks, it’s a very simple but effective design - word of warning, don’t use the hard bottom flasks in the front, found out the hard way that they aren’t comfortable!! (Perfect in back side pocket)

    I have the adv skin 12 and it seems about the same. Main difference visually is the adv skin 12 has cheaper mesh in the front in some spots whereas the pro 10 has the stretchy material everywhere. The back storage area on the 10 also seems to have a bit better structure instead of being floppy. I love my 12 because it fits my 750ml hydroflash perfectly (for a bottle of mountain wine) and I can run with it in there!

    I just got the new version of the advanced skin 5 set. It's a great vest. That being said, I also have the active skin 8 set. I don't think you can do better for $100 than the active series. If I was pressed to pick one, I might take my active 8 set. I'm not sure if it's that I've been using it for almost 2 years and the advanced skin is still new to me, but there are definitely pros and cons to both. Good stuff.

    Good review James. My UD pack like yours is pretty battered and so I'm looking at packs. I've tried the new Montane packs but the M is to small and the L to big 🤷🏻‍♂️. I did try a Salomon pack before I brought the UD but after 5 mins running in it i didn't like it. The problem was the elastic type tie system at the front was way to stretchy. I then noticed that all the Salomon sponsors athletes had them pull right in as tight as possible to obviously to try and stop bounce. Your new one looks a lot better though

    i really really love your reviews James, here's another great one ! As a possessor of the adv skin 5, I really was interested in this one for better storage capacity and lighter material. I think you answered to 2 of my questions : the hard bottom of the flasks doesn't seem to bother you too much (I've been reading about pain issues on rib cage), and gear don't seem to "bounce" a lot in the back.
    but I'd still have a last question : do you feel like the "kangaroo" rear transversal pocket is easy to access ? I like this spot a lot for having an extra small flask, or store my smartphone sometimes... I heard the openings are a bit narrow, but still you don't seem to struggle at all.
    thank you for a great review! 👍😊

    • @movemorenowjames
      @movemorenowjames  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks. So… I can see why some might find the hard bottom flasks bothersome - they can be a little uncomfortable… so what I did today was slip them in the kangaroo pouch - whilst running - and works perfectly . It’s quite easy to access . Going forward I may just use the standard flasks but use the back bit as back up

      Ok, also… the hard flasks aren’t the most comfortable in the front for longer runs , this morning ribs a little sore - but they are very to stuff and access in the back pouch … that’s the only issue with the pack (will try and do an update vid )

      @@movemorenowjames thank you for your honest input ! That's what I've been reading a lot concerning long runs. Some have replaced the hard-bottom flasks with regular ones (but then I think you're losing the ability to put them back in place rapidly). I personaly, like we mentioned before, love to have two flasks in my back : one on the rear kangaroo pocket of my vest, the other on my Compressport belt.
      Cheers

    You said you went with a large, what is your normal shirt size or chest measurement if you don't mind sharing? I went with a large because the medium was too tight on my arms and chest. I tested the large on a run and it seemed to bounce when it had water in the flasks. Was the bounce noticeable on your runs?

    • @movemorenowjames
      @movemorenowjames  Před 2 lety

      Hi, I don’t actually know - think it’s a 40 regular but generally go for a large in all tops as they ride up the back if I don’t. - it’s the shoulders and traps … it still does bounce a bit but they all do, what I found works is too either just pull tight or put one flask in the back pouch. This balances it a bit…. Great vest !
