2018 Jeep Compass Review

  • A Jeep exudes a certain attitude that pulls them above other crossovers and cute-utes. Even this Compass seems more mature and capable because it looks like a Grand Cherokee that was left in the dryer for too long.
Get a Free Price Quote: quotes.autogui...
In addition to the looks, that Jeep badge means that this Compass has to be rugged and ready for anything the world throws your way. But because of its market segment, the Compass also has to be a solid daily driver. Let's see if this Jeeplet can actually be a jack of all trades.
Now in its second generation, the new Compass is a huge departure from the old one and looks like the premium Grand Cherokee, which is a very good thing. The new look is great, and no one should be worried about being spotted in one of these cars, unlike the last model which was a bit bland and cheap looking.

I have a 2018 Jeep Compass that I purchased with 29 miles on it. I didn’t even have the Jeep for 48 hours and it died at a stoplight. Although the dealership said it was a fluke because it was “too new” for any codes to show up. However almost a year later, dealerships have replaced several major parts and re-wired it, I still have a huge amount of electrical issues. Chrysler is unwilling to do anything about this Jeep. They said it’s all flukes even though I have given them videos and photos of all the electrical issues. When your emergency brake engages while driving, your backup camera does not turn on or off and the climate control system has a mind of its own and changes from heater to air conditioning. And the UConnect system glitching is an well known issue that Jeep and Chrysler know about and have not done anything to fix.
I have taken a cross country road trip and it was comfortable to drive but there is a lot of issues, like you said, with storage. As far as the cruise control, my Sport does have it and came standard in mine.

I think the redundant physical buttons are a big bonus - touch screens aren’t the best for quick basic climate adjustments while driving

In fact having important controls buried in software and a touchscreen is downright DANGEROUS.

Those redundant buttons are in case your screen goes black

    • @MotorScotti
      @MotorScotti Před 6 lety +9

And I'm grateful they put them there so you can easily access the really important things like climate and radio without going through endless menus of the infotainment system and getting distracted from driving.

Dude, seriously? Why the hell would you complain about physical controls for climate settings? Why include them? Because you can access them by feel while driving. You don't have to take your eyes off the road to navigate through menus and find the right spot on the touch screen to change your controls. It is way safer, easier, and more efficient to have the physical controls. You can also easily access them wearing gloves. If you are going to complain, then complain that the touch screen controls are redundant/not needed rather than the physical ones. Also, you just mentioned that the touch screen broke for a few days. Can you imagine how much worse that would have been if the only way to control the climate settings were via that broken touch screen? SMH

    • @canto_v12

I agree with you Sean. My 2016 Dodge Challenger has similar driver interfaces and controls as the Jeep . I love the knob controls that I can operate easily without even looking down . They are very well designed and feel great too . We had a Cadillac ATS that had no redundant controls....everything was through the damned screen that was hard to see due to glare and slow to respond to touch . Hated that damned system . FCA may be lagging on refinement in some areas but not with driver controls . They are great in that area .

I do agree that Jeep needs to make spaces for storage more user friendly, the door pockets are almost worthless and there is no area for your phone.
Make the sunglasses storage standard, it's really needed. Every little cubby space helps.

I have the new generation compass 2017 latitude 4x4. I did not like the 9 speed transmission so i opted to get the 6 speed manual. It has been a great vehicle through 12,300 miles so far. No issues at all. I live in an area that get a lot of snow and drives through deep snow like its nothing. Great vehicle especially if you can drive manual. I've averaged 28.7mpg through all 12,300 miles including use of 4 wheel drive.

I was impressed with jeep for a second. the interior however, just looks horrible and not comfortable. thats a bummer. comparing it to the LR2, i like the exterior of the compass better but the interior wins for the 2013 and newer LR2. If Mercedes GLK had brought the off road package to the US, then that would have been my go to but unfortunately they only kept that option in europe. best small suv 4x4 that ive found so far has been, surprisingly, the VW Toureg II with locking differentials and air suspension. Not crazy about the looks but its kind of a sleeper off road small suv if you can find one with the locking differential options. If jeep had just put some more time into this interior...

I might enjoy it more if my dealership experience wasn't so bad. My salesman lacked product knowledge of my Jeep. I drove VWs for 17 years...and missing my Jetta. My sedan had more horsepower and torque than my Compass has now. The acceleration of my Compass is the most disappointing thing about it. For a 4-cylinder, the fuel economy is plain awful. I was told my Jeep has remote start by my salesman; found out that was false...🤦🏽‍♀️. It's my first 4x4!! It's got a few toys on it! I'll roll with it for a little while...

I honestly believe any car in this day and age, if taken care of and driven properly, can be very reliable. Obviously something like a RAV4 will generally be the superior vehicle in terms of cheap maintenance and fewer trips back to the dealer, because let's face it Japanese (and German) cars just have the superior build quality, but also keep in mind a fully loaded Toyota product will be basically double that of a loaded Jeep Compass for example.

Don't buy a Jeep Compass and here is why: Ever since I purchased my first 2018 Jeep Compass Latitud I've only had problems. First the start/stop did not work initially so I had to get it serviced. Fortunately it was under warranty. Second issue, I did not se any fuel consumption savings. This vehicle was promoted to give its owners over 30mpg. I've been averaging 20.1mg. Third issue, this vehicle has 2 batteries and the smaller battery died so my vehicle could not start and this isn't a normal battery that you can jump start or easily remove yourself and replace. My vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. Forth issue, now multiple warning lights are lighting up on my dash. For the recorder, I have done the recommended service checks and maintenance as per the manual and/or dealer's recommendations. The last check and maintenance was a month ago in which I paid just a little under $400 and now I'm back again.

I am disappointed buying this jeep compass limited 2018. I brought it with 17 milage. Car makes multiple noices which is coming from rear axle. While driving U connect app goes off itself and also brakes are very hard.

Its amazes me Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep still cant figure out how to make reliable cars??? They make nice designs but cant get out of their own way. Stop putting these ridiculous electronics in these vehicles would be a start. Jeep should mean reliable and they are blowing it. Sorry about your car.
