Gather around the fireplace children, the Christmas Wizard has some stories to tell.
Yup
Yayy
Anyone else notice that for every story the color of the flame is different? Freaky.
Needs a Santa costume.
@@Alegrus375 Nah. They just need to change the color of the Wizard hat in their logo to bright Christmas red and put a white ball at the tip of it. perfect.png
The 6 dislikes are the locals that still think he is running a chop shop.
Can you please explain what a chop shop is. Thank you, and why is it illegal
@@titansteelful it's the place where car thieves bring their cars to be dismembered and sold for parts.
@@titansteelful a “chop shop” is usually a normal looking business, specifically a automobile shop that takes stolen cars and dismantle them and sell the parts on the black market. They “chop” the cars up
"You're cutting them up and selling the pizzas" :p
😂👍
"And then this crazy customer brings me a Maybach that looked like it had been attacked by a giant can opener..."
Queue VinWiki intro.
Severely underappreciated comment!
Hahaha
We got a bunch of shipments for a previous tenant at one place I worked. The first few shipments we told them where to find the other company but when it kept happening I decided to just start refusing the shipments. I figured if the company stops getting the stuff they order maybe they'll fix their shipping address. It worked. I only had to refuse 3 shipments and that was the end of it.
its an inverse chop shop.
hoovie brings a half broken car in an gets a it back with even more parts than it came.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
They come in as hoopties, and come out serviceable automobiles
People have never seen a Ferrari or Lamborghini in humble Kansas and go crazy from their ignorance.
Best way to fence parts..
20:20 Imagine being so bitter and jealous that you don't want a free exotic car show in your town. I'm always looking out for cool cars anytime I'm near a big city.
More and more people are developing the "Karen" attitude. Entitlement knows no bounds.
i think if you try to get someone arrested on the pretense of a personal bias that person should face legal repercussions. it's not just putting people through the motions because sometimes innocent people have to pay lots of defensive legal fees or worse.
Plot twist, It's Mrs. Wizard calling. She just hates those exotic cars keeping him away from home all the time with their foreign problems. lol
This is the premise behind the KAREN law drafted earlier this year- look it up!
Every time I see a cool exotic car, I look in amazement and admire it, people who are so jealous of the cars that they call the cops on you, they should be arrested
I remember Car Wizard cutting holes into Hoovie's Lambo.
Totally chop shop.
That's what came to mind for me too.
a-holes??
@@hondodh lol
"No, sir, we're not going to arrest the Car Wizard. Even if he _did_ publicly sodomize that Lamborghini."
@@hondodh Fixed, sir
We had a customer that came in everyday at 11 am. He ordered a hamburger meal and then would take his medicine and leave. Then one day he came in at 12:30, he ate and then just sat there with his hand around his cup. Not moving. He died at our tables. He came in every day for 3 years. You get so used to things and when they go away, you miss them.
Interesting auto shop story...but whatever
@@kylebutler7142you sound like the lady complaining about the supposed chop shop
I use to manage a large garage many years ago. My strangest story is when a customer came the shop and stated she was not going pay for any repairs and we needed to go to her house and fix her car at her house for free. I told the customer we did not have the ability to work on a mobile basis let alone for free. She left and and a little later I get a call from the local police. She had called police wanting to get me arrested for not coming to her house and fixing her car. The police were laughing when they called and had told her no laws were broken.
What the h*ll is wrong with some people haha
She has to be on something to come to a conclusion like that lol. The cops called you with this just to give you something to laugh about too 😂
The cops should have visited her house. She would probably have answered the door with a crack pipe in her mouth.
@@letsdothis9063 Crazy, Karen alert!
Idk, maybe I'm racist.. but I pictured this lady as chinese. was she?
Jeez that last one was just, ... Wow. Some people just can’t withstand things outside the usual
I had one like that as a co worker. When I was brand new to my last job, I needed to get a 4x4 quick fast and in a hurry due to the winter weather, and moving up to ND from TX, and having only a small economy car. When this karen realized that I now had two cars, she lost it, shouting to the entire room that she would never have more than one car, and that I had some nerve to do so. LOL I'd love to tell her than we now have 7 cars and 3 motorcycles. :)
Typical Kansas 😂. I lives there for 22 years.
He is in Newton, KS, population 19,000. It is an unusual place to see so many exotic cars.
Its not even that, they just can't handle envy, a very basic feeling we all have.
Watching how Hoovie’s Murcielago was fixed there was surely some chopping of the carbon fiber tub so...
The Lincoln owner probable knew absolutely nothing about cars and thought a Town Car was a the beez neez of automotive luxury and sophisticated engineering.
i mean it is, but not for the reasons she was thinking lmao
Actually, I'm betting that the Lincoln was her late husbands last car or the last car he bought for her and this is one of the last connections to him.
Ford does some goofy stuff at times, so I understand her concerns firsthand. Like on my 97 Expedition 5.4L V8, removing the fuel rail to access the coils and spark plugs. That Lincoln 4.6L V8 has the exact same setup. I can do wondrous things on a Wankel, but the Expedition's coils and plugs are one thing I just go "nope" because of the lack of good access to do the job quickly and easily without swearing in several languages. Due Diligence is a good thing.
When Weezard was talking about the exotics she could see, she probably thought they were go carts - which they kind of are.
Most likely she had been burned by a bad mechanic before. I had that problem with a late 80s oldsmobile I owned just a few years ago so I can relate.
My therapist: For the last time SPY BIRD ISN'T REAL!
Spy Bird: 👀
Don't tell your therapist about the squirrels that look in my kitchen window!
What!!!🤔😳😳😳
isnt there some meme going around that birds are not real
I think the "o-ring in a large box" situation came from someone saying "Who orders just one o-ring?" and deciding to have fun with it. I approve.
Probably from Amazon.
Had to be that.
@@Land-of-reason That's what I thought. Not only does Amazon use ridiculously large boxes, they use no protection for the contents. I ordered a carbon fibre fishing pole from them. It arrived in an enormous box with no bubble wrap or packing. It was smashed to pieces. They replaced it without question, but when I suggested that they use more appropriate packaging, I was told that was their standard sporting goods box. Amazingly, the replacement arrived in one piece.
@@laurieharper1526
Here in the UK we have had lots of complaints about Amazon packaging. The environmentalists are always complaining.
They have a point.
@@Land-of-reason They do indeed. I'm in the UK, too. I don't order from Amazon these days.
" I dont want to see those types of cars in my city because im jealous" is what that lady really meant.
more likely a perpetually offended Karen type.
I couldn't help thinking of Clint Eastwood's movie "Gran Torino". It's a generational thing with some who think domestic is the only option and everything else is bad.Same thing with the Lincoln woman. There was a time Lincoln was the best. But that hasn't been so since the 1970s.
@@davidpick1076 there was never a time Lincoln was the best because there was always Cadillac 😂
Next up: Hoovie's neighbors are calling the cops in his town saying that he's hiding cars for drug dealers serving prison terms.
Don't give the auto-haters any ideas please.
They're insider traders.
I'm sure he's bought a car or two from them ...
It does make more sense
Plot twist: Hoovie owns El Chapo's McLaren F1 and Ed doesn't know about it.
Wizard forgot to mention the customer with a compulsive buying disorder.

Wizard is like the Bob Ross of mechanics.
The Chop Shop & the House Wiring are the BEST stories ever!
yeah I mean if you wired it with wire with 15 amp house wire and that line has say a 40 amp fuse I can see that causing a fire in the car eventually simple
IKR. If you're going to rewire your car, use lamp-cord. at least that stuff is flexible.
Hey Wizard, can we hear a story about the most broken vehicle you had Roll in while you were a mechanic for the Army?
I'd personally say it was probably a Heritage M60 or Bradley. Those things are going on 40 year old at this point.
Couldn't possibly beat the break rate on our 60K loaders.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
That would be when Specialist Hoover brought his newly-purchased DUKW by to get checked out.
That would be an Abrams tank fitted with Range Rover running gear.
My dad was a mechanic before he was a teacher and also has some funny stories : a stickshift car got stuck in reverse and the owner drove it 10 miles backwards to the shop... lol , besides i work in a hospital and i also can write a book myself
" drove it 10 miles backwards to the shop... lol , besides i work in a hospital and i also can write a book myself " So that backwards part is a Freudian slip on you part? .. . ..
Hospital stories are crazy. I love hearing my uncle talk about what all he sees in the ER.
I'd like to think the local sheriff actually calls him "Car Wizard" instead of his real name lol
I know a guy whose Dad has a Town Car and he'd probably question your ability to work on his pride and joy even if he was standing next to a McLaren F1 in your shop!
Not surprising considering how many hack mechanics are out there that can't be trusted to work on a rusted out '89 Cavalier.
I'm betting that the Lincoln was her late husbands last car or the last car he bought for her and this is one of the last connections to him.
I really like your “fireside chats” - it’s like having a beer with a couple friends and listening to tall tales... Thanks for this!
Totally agree, it is really nice
The chats are real, the fire is fake.
Need pipe ..slippers and smoking jacket for fireside chats
As a truck driver, we get this alot. Sometimes its a blind shipment or items are received on behalf of other companies
Just because the is is no sign for a business, doesn't mean the might not be other businesses operating out of there, or they rent storage space.
@@Cheepchipsable yup that too
The Mr. Snoopy story reminded me of the time my car had to spend some time in a dealership service department, and the official loaner was already out, so they threw a plate on one of the used cars on the lot and marked it down as an "extended test drive". On the way home I needed the registration, and in hunting for it discovered that the dealer's detailers had left all of the previous owners' paperwork in the glove compartment. Old registrations, insurance cards, their lease documents (with information about their incomes), the works.
(Sam and Clara, if you're reading this, don't worry. I shredded all your docs for you. By the way, you live in a very nice neighborhood, but I'm worried that Sam might be overextending slightly. Careful with those limited-mileage leases, they'll get you every time.)
About the O-Ring in a big box:
Shipping companies lose big boxes less than they do really small ones. Wizard did say he had to special order it.
Amazon used to send everything this way - in giant moving boxes. So if someone ordered a bag of chips, it really was: "All that and a bag of chips." (Ask me how I know...) No joke, back then I think they were also trying to avoid stuff getting stolen at the big Bermuda triangle locations of the USPS.
I've seen the house wires in cars quite a few times before. I too refuse to work on them.
Some of us call those cars "tweaker specials".
The vibrations in a moving motor vehicle can bend and unbend solid house wire ultimately causing a break which is concealed within the the thick insulation and thus very hard to diagnose. Twisted copper strand wire normally used in vehicles will resist vibration breakage. Tinned twisted copper strand wire will resist vibration and corrosion on boats.
I once used an extension cord to wire an amp on a old truck I had...
Back in the good ol days.
When you find household electrical and plumbing parts in a car, you know you're in for a good time.
Pulled a bumper skin and found a crash bar had been replaced with some welded up fence posts.
Found a VW Golf in the junkyard where a steel coolant pipe had been replaced with copper pipe and elbows and it was actually a good fix.
I had a 300zx which had a valve cover that lacked some bolts and it was sealed up with caulk. I was a teenager at the time and didn't even try taking the cover off to clean it.
I saw a car with a corrugated steel hood. All sharp edges. Not as bad as garbage bag side windows or riding on four donut spares.
Ahhh yes, a fireside chat with the Wizard!
I just love the look of that golden book of ancient automotive wisdom.
Also, it's cool how the color of the flame in that fireplace changes with each take.
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to the Wizard, his family, and all of his subscribers.🎁🎁🎁🎁

I'd like to think I'm a car geek, but these guys creeped me out.
@@Cheepchipsable someone who’s not boring...
When the car wizard was reading from that old book it reminded me of this sad story. In the UK back in about 1929 my grandfather was a mechanic for a very rich man who owned two cars. He lived in an apartment above the rich man's garage with his wife and three kids. Then he died, I don't know how. So my grandmother became a widow and homeless. In those days there was no social security or whatever you call it. Out of desperation she married her deceased husband's brother. He was a 40 y.o. bachelor and a sea captain. All that my mother would say about him was that he was very strict.
It's almost like a tale from Dickens, go straight to the poorhouse. So for all you mechanics out there, just be thankful for what you've got.
wiring a car with one type of wire not knowing what load that line needs if it needs 40 amp and your using 15 amp line that's asking for a fire to happen right there

Wouldn't the Romex end up breaking where it goes in the door at the hinges? Constantly bending it back & forth
I literally laughed out loud on that one 🤣🤣🤣
"Chop Shop Woman" sounds jealous. Maybe she should move to a worse part of town? And that O-Ring guy can't have been paying shipping, or it'd have been sent in a 3"x5" Jiffy Bag!
The lives of certain members of the general public seem to be even more miserable and dire than any Biblical description of Hell and perdition.

Yeah, sounds like those people were secretly hoping Omega Engineering was a chopshop. It would add a bit of excitement to their drab lives.

I've seen model t's with 4 separate ignition coils in big wooden boxes that buzz when you turn the ignition on. I think that's what that excerpt was talking about. Sometimes they're next to the engine and sometimes they're under the dash. Depends on the year I believe.

OMG! That O-ring story is off the hook! Absolutely INSANE!
I once had the city get mad at 4 cars being parked in my 6 car driveway, gave me a ticket for derelict vehicles when they were all running and registered. Said neighbors complained about having to see "so many cars". My fence grew three sizes that day...
In the 1990s, I bought a few rough but running 1980s cars (mostly Japanese cars and pickups) to use as personal transportation winter beaters, then got bored of them and sold them, and got another one. Then I bought a Ford Pinto to restore (nostalgia for my first car). I had it parked in the garage. One bitter neighbor across the street in my working class/middle class neighborhood didn't like that (he preferred brand new GM cars) and called the city bylaw on me saying I was running an automotive repair shop, body shop and car dealership from home. I showed him the registration to my fairly new Ford Escort in the driveway and to the Ford Pinto in the garage, both registered in my name, and had been for a while. He said "sorry to have bothered you" and left, lol!

Having a shop that has a lot of high end business is actually GOOD for a town. I live 2 miles down the street from a Rolls/Lotus/Mercedes dealer. Dude, thanks for making this, I love the stories of things that this that goes on. I wish I had some great stories. The best I got is a lady that complained once and I felt kind of happy she left a shitty review that was very vague. Now people can see I'm not perfect I recon.
The owner of a shop I worked at bought a '98 BMW M3 with a blown engine for CHEAP. Of course, we had tried to turn the engine over with a breaker bar before we even started pulling the motor, and it was locked up good and tight. We were to remove and replace the engine with another one he had sitting in the corner of the shop. A fellow mechanic started disassembling stuff to pull the blown motor, and noticed the A/C compressor drive bearing looked melted. He cut the belt, started the car and it ran flawlessly. The compressor had locked up and wouldn't allow the engine to budge one inch.
We put a new compressor on the car, and the owner sold it, making thousands on it. My buddy got a nice bonus for that piece of detective work.
Yeah Ive seen that happen at the amazon centers. The machine will tell you to use a huge box for a group of very small items. It was so bad during the holidays that you would have to put a whole bunch of stuff in oversize or change out a crapload of containers if you were sorting
The last story regarding the lady: KAREN.

The fireplace flame colors changing every story made me laugh ;-)
I just love these stories and it goes to show you just how crazy this world has gotten. Thanks for sharing.
Wiz, I wished you would have ended every story with: "In the end.. we all played Dungeons & Dragons, then we went to Applebees."
I had a woman scream at me while I was sitting at a traffic light while I was driving one of my client's Rolls-Royce Phantoms. She was mad because I was a "rich asshole". I was just sitting at the light, windows down but didn't have the radio on or anything. It was a stock Phantom right from the dealer, I was picking it up for a client. I'm guessing that's what the last woman's problem was, some people just hate success and wealth which is so sad. Maybe if they put half the effort into bettering their lives as they do complaining about others they could succeed 🤔
@Bill Jonston That would have been great! 🤣🤣
we need some more of these wizard! especially around this time of year!
Would love to hear about any stories from when you were working in aviation! Does speed tape really fix everything?
Yes. And bailing wire. But only if properly secured by bubble gum
there might be more tools outside your shop than inside, based on those stories!
That fire side chat was awesome. You can’t please everyone. And apparently you don’t have to go out of your way to piss the neighbors off either. Merry Christmas Mr and Mrs Wizard. Happy and prosperous New Year
The Mr. Snoopy story made me laugh.
Guess you are in the perfect position to run a chopshop lol
There is an amazing amount of intolerance in the world about the weirdest things. Certain types of cars, football teams, countries, ethnicities.
People latch onto things that just don't make any sense to get upset over, but they won't let go no matter what.
Well Wizard, if you park Hoovies new (to him) Maybach outside your place the chop shop aspect might come back into play.I want to say that you strike me as a really good guy, very calm and level headed. The way you dealt with the transposed fluid change on the SLS AMG was 100% class. I think Hoovie saw the light on that one.
