I absolutely love the PP slinging at trex. Oh, and the trick for reassembly, is actually simpler. Reassemble at a 45° angle so the piston falls both into the gas block

There are so many good AR uppers.. and the fact that the MCX also works on AR lowers.. and now this too works on AR lowers, and many others; Just solidifies the fact that AR's will never be surpassed. They are here to stay for the long run.
as long as we are using brass and gunpowder to launch lead projectiles the AR15 will be popular.

I could see AR lowers evolving, we don't really need buffer tubes anymore. It would be possible to have a FCU that would drop into different lowers, similar to Sig P320, so you could have a 5.56 and a .308 that has one serial number.
@@lance9150 Yeah.. An FCU type lower that works with standard uppers could be cool. I'm not sure it would catch on to the masses though, just because I'm sure it would cost too much to compete.
Btw the phase 5 bad lever works with the jakl with no mods !! I made a vid about this but make it reloads a bit smoother !!

The 1lb is something used to fret, but after some thought I realized; when I was issued a rifle with a 203 and GLS(Grenade launcher sight) I hated the extra weight the GLS added for how infrequent I used it and the fact I preferred a leaf sight. Now I’m realizing you can resent “bad weight” but good weight also exists. Weight=less perceived recoil and also, if you hump a rifle long enough it doesn’t matter how much it weighs, it all sucks the same.
Never know what to think of a gun until you do a review, know your gonna test drive the hell out of it, thanks.

And this is precisely why I garner more information from your channel as opposed to several other channels. You're not an entertainer. You actually review these rifles. Completely don't understand the weight argument, my current set up is a 20" HBAR barrel AR. Thats been my go to for years.
i bought a pws mk11 mod2 and have put well over 6000 rounds on it suppressed and it has had zero problems. fucking love it
Love the review, one comment though. It is only 1 example, but my XCR in 5.56 has gone through 2 shooting classes (3400-3500rnds) and performed great. Did have to mortar is once for a stuck case and it did send brass to the nexrlt zip code at lowest setting it would cycle reliably.
Honestly that's great, I'm glad yours works really well because I like their concept.
I own a few examples myself in different calibers and have had excellent results with all of them. I think a lot of issues are with those that do not understand an adjustable gas system.

I got two AR lowers from PSA and one was fine, but the other had the buffer tube so loose that I could spin it freely by hand.
The first shot at the range popped out the buffer detent spring and made it useless until I fixed it at home with a replacement detent spring.

Love the Halo music since I always thought (okay since 2007) that the ACR and the imo even better looking JAKL (the upper receiver pattern with the screws is kinda Halo BR ish btw) should've been the actual main rifle in the Halo universe with a few tweaks here and there. Also nice to see other dudes still rocking the 20" muskets, which is also still my favorite despite testing all the modern Gucci stuff for years, maybe it's simply because my arms, neck etc are so long, but I just prefer it even with just iron sights.
Yes, the Covenant are still laughing at us for using "primitive projective weapons" (it's literally in the original OG Halo 2 manual).

So I feel like you did a perfect job on this review with heavy emphasis on the stock. The main thing I would add is how much rubbery flex you have from the stock. I struggled getting a good group at distance just because I could get so much flex in the stock, that it was difficult to get a proper repeatable hold on the rifle. I finally had to trash it and put an Sig minimalist stock on it.
I agree. Well put. People who get something and it obviously has issues, yet imply that it's indicative the mosel has issues, dont have an understanding of mass production.
You don’t have to use dead air cans just bc you have a dead air pinned and welded muzzle. As long as you have the adapter you can use any can that will fit it. It’s $250 for the adapter btw

Does PSA provide the torque specs for those barrel screws? Also, recommend using paint markers on them for visual checks. Lastly, those seemed pretty tiny if they were the primary means of securing the barrel.

I have a complaint about the delrin receiver extension plug, would be better if ti was Ali. or something stronger than plastic. My stock has just the smallest amount of play (JMAC pic rail stock).
The XCR is the ACR I want (and have) at home. I like the price of this gun though.

I did say that, i did mean it, and it is on my list of things to do. The challenge I have is setting aside pretty expensive ammunition for a product i know isnt very good nor as relevant as other things im working on.

And I own a few of em myself but comparing it to a modern rifle is just silly to get one with an optic and peq mounted your going to have close to a 11lb 7.62x39 rifle… the best thing Zastava was m92 pistols mount a red dot on dust cover pic rail and use as a truck gun. As far as a full size battle rifle if you live in the US you should be going 556 and a AR style rifle .

PSA as a company, I think is ok... I used to get quite a bit of ammo from them & it was a prompt shipping experience.. I had an AKV9MM , but i sold it when they illegally installed the brace ban.. i would not buy ANY of their guns what so ever.. not an AK, not an AR, & definitely not one of their shitty glock knock off pistols!

I'd really love to see a review on an SU16, being that it's actually a carbine. The 13.7 JAKL is a shorted rifle, not a carbine, because carbines are light and convenient in every aspect, while rifles are for fighting. Not to say both types of long arm can't be interchangeable, like making a very light weight AR15 or a fighting set up for an SU16. Thanks anyway and good day

I love PSA. I've bought a complete upper and lower, an ak, a bcg, and various small parts. All have been gtg with the exception of the castle nut on the lower coming loose, it was staked but not very well. After fixing it myself, I haven't had any other issues. It has over 2k rounds with one malfunction and the ak has over 3k with zero. Still I wouldn't recommend PSA to anyone that wasn't capable of thoroughly inspecting and/or doing basic repairs.

The jakl stock was locked and bendy as fuck more than 15 degrees with not much force. Does it matter that much? Probably not it stayed together just an observation. Solid review.
As guy that like rifles, not a professional trainer like you, Chris, I am gonna say:
Piston is cool, but I would go DI 99.9% of the time, less recoil, more part interchangeability. Recoil causes less accuracy on piston guns, shot follow up on target is slower, and some piston guns actually make more sound suppressed at the extraction port. I saw someone ran a test with a huge piston brand while suppressed and he showed that it dumped more carbon into action than DI gun. Only this time it forced gas through the chamber, not the gas port.
After this...I chilled on my piston desires. Still want to own one, maybe JAKL, but the hype is too much.
I can tune AR with adjustable gas block, in fact I tune to weak ammo like 223 PMC Bronze and then use 5.56 ammo (with adjustable gas block), I run JP Enterprises silent capture spring, and to this day I did not have a single jam in 4 years. Not 1.
Watching piston reviews is not so successful.

The most thorough review yet on this platform. I had written it off for an A3 TRIAD chassis component because of perceived unreliability and poor QA over the upcoming Foxtrot Mike one piece barrel uppers but now I am not so sure. I kinda wanted to avoid a SBR Jakl build since FM makes the barrel in carbine length for 300BLK. Having gas piston operation with a usable gas valve on a suppressed 300BLK SBR might be worth the tax stamp.
Bare in mind, the FM models have had severe issues in the action spring.

At this point I'm thinking the only bufferless uppers I'd consider for actual defense are the MCX and the cmmg dissent.
I'd probably pick the dissent though knowing Sig USA's firearm track record. It's also a lot cheaper now.
Get the MCX. Its a superior platform.

@@FXIIBeaver Shows how much you know. The Arisaka retention clamp was made to apply more tension to the hand-guard NOT the barrel. The barrel issues are from SIG not torquing the barrel screws to correct values which literally takes less than 5 minutes to fix yourself. Although it’s BS a rifle that cost that much was sent out like that, QC issues exist with all firearm manufacturers.
@@CxS_Nico I wanna believe it, but I have a hard time trusting Sig after the p320, discontinuing products and the fact that 9-hole did a test confirming barrel shift on the new spear-lt rifles. The virtus and rattler seem fine though from what I've read but I don't really have any of them so take it with a grain of salt. The main benefit however of the MCX imo is the fact you can get a sear trip kit for if you ever get an m16 lower or an FRT trigger.
Regardless I'm contemplating either getting a cmmg dissent or waiting for the gen 3 brn 180 or just giving up on the idea of a bufferless upper for now and running a law tactical folder or a pdw brace.
I feel that once PSA makes some generational refinements to these and it becomes a mature design, that it will possibly be one of the best rifles of its class.

Remember that the ris2 MK18 is out of style because people don't like quad rails anymore so you can usually get a mk18 upper from Brownells for 7ish
Check out Zev’s Mega Arms MML rifles. You can get a complete rifle built on a semi-monolithic upper (similar to LWRC & Cobalt Kinetics where the rail attaches to an extension on the upper and not onto the barrel nut) a billet receiver set w/ ambi bolt release, and literally the best fit and finish in the industry for like $1200 right now. Insane value there.

Any experience with the caracal 816? The bolt carrier is proprietary but it does use an ar bolt. Been my go to but I have nowhere near your round count. Curious to see if any have come through your class.
For the price of that thing I'd certainly hope it's good, and realistically it probably is.

I have always liked PSA, but like you said, their builders kind of suck. I have had loose barrels and hand guards . I still support them, but I decided to go to a Geissele Super Duty.

What are your options and known experience with LMT and LWRCI
I have had many different piston rifles. The LWRC IC-A5 and IC-E were all overgassed like mad and couldn't be regulated. They were both the harshest-recoiling AR-15 rifles I've ever shot, and not in just an uncomfortable way but in terms of it making it difficult to stay on target while rapid firing.
The Ruger SR556 was the smoothest in recoil, but had a ridiculous heavy front as it had the most hefty gas block. I loved the rifle otherwise except that the bolt carrier was unshrouded and it would peen on the firing pin/ hammer. No thanks. And with no spare parts, it's not like I could just buy a replacement.
The Sig 516 was darn near perfect. Barrel is 14.5, moderate weight gas block, robust piston and gas rings on the piston to allow more precise and less gas, it had light recoil impulse. It also has adjustments to allow different ammo. No regrets selling my LWRC's and keeping the 516. Unfortunately, SIG stopped selling these and spare parts. Go figure...
@@OutSciEd that's insane! All I ever heard was how good LWRCI is and how smooth their piston feels , I'm still considering if I should go with a LMT 12.5-14.5 or a LWRCI 12.5-14.5 . At this rate I might as well just stick to DI

From looks, it is a cool gun. Specs are pretty much what a lot of people want in a modern fighting rifle. In practice it has problems and personally I think I want to wait until all the beta testing gives PSA better QC and then buy one of my own.

If it’s a home defense gun, or an LE patrol rifle, etc, yeah 1lb isn’t a huge deal. If you’re going to be doing infantry stuff, then I’d prefer not to have 1 extra pound… as long as my other requirements are met with the rifle.
