    Sam thanks for this video. I got my Rail last year and then the new models come out so you get the FOMO going. I feel better knowing that my 'old' geometry is better for my trail riding. I got a Rail 7 and added on MRP suspension coil and fork, slowly did parts all year now have AXS which I love.

    Man, you've come so far! Great to see your channel growing! So, can riders make up the reach difference with a stem and bar swap? Keep the phenom reviews coming captain!

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  Před 2 lety +1

      Mate thanks so much for the kind words I fight everyday for where Iam and I love these words so thanks! Actually a shorter stem will make you feel more comfortable on the bike but the wheel base want change. I would try and stick to a 40-50mm stem and get the right reach. Also a shorter stem gives you less weight over the front which in return will give you less front wheel traction. Again thanks for the kind words if you have anymore just ask!

    Such a good, very insightful and helpful review. I have 20’ Rail 9.7 large fully dialed/customized to me over past year (170/157 coil w/Luftkappe on fork, Sprindrex adjustable coil for rear). TRP DH-EVO brakes, DH tread, 200 dropper. At 5’9.5” in height, the older geo in large with shorter reach and WB is perfect for everything riding (trail, free ride, some DH, etc). New battery looks good, but I decided just to buy another 625w battery to swap out as needed at ride, since never too far from car at local trail centers.

    Thanks for your insight, mate. I had a hard debate between a few of the Rails and ultimately chose the 2022 9.7 which should arrive soon. I have just picked up a Rail 5 for my wife which she loves. I had looked at the 7 for myself, but it was a minimal price change to get the carbon frame and the upgraded Kiox computer and it's better functionality and ride data. This also gives me budget room to do any upgrades as I see fit. I found the price of the XT (which I truly wanted) was just too high - and I've avoided the issues you had over the 9.8 and 9.9 over the dimensions. I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces this year. Here's to a great 2022 riding season!

    Well done in pointing out upgrading the Rail 5 as a good option .
    I've owned 2020 Rail 7 and 2021 Rail 7 and sold parts new that I felt were week and fitted the cheapest Zeb 170mm fork ,One up components 210 dropper .
    Down graded to micro shift Advent x 10 speed .
    I will be going with the Rail 5 for my next bike and fitting Zeb RC Hope Wheels ,One up Dropper post and Downgrading drive train 10 speed Advent X as it just £60 to renew cassette and chain .

    Seat down, longer reach, probably will feel that, but if your saddle is down you might appreciate more stability. Seat up, longer reach but steeper seat tube angle, might well end up in the body to handlebar position as the old bike.

    Great Vid. Having this debate right now. Currently on the Trek 2021 9.8 XT which is a great bike. But finding I'm riding more downhill/enduro now & I am right on the edge of what the bike is capable of. Apparently on the new version the front can go to a 170mm (so 170/150) & the 750w would give more miles so I might press the button on the new one, although I've also got an option on the new Giant Reign (which looks very decent value) & the Kelly's F90 Theos (which is a monster)

    Just for clarity...is the new 750Wh batter the same physical dimensions as the 625Wh battery in my 2021 9.8XT Rail? Contemplating just buying a second battery to carry. That said, byb the time I've done a (approx.) 50km trail ride with (approx.) 1,800m of climbing (using Tour mode), I'm empty enough myself regardless of what the battery's like!

  • @ioannisparaskevopoulos1120

    I really like the Rail, very capable bike but that big opening at the side of the carbon frame for the battery cover, makes me question the long term rigidity of the frame. I would prefer the battery integrated into the frame like Specialized does! So, I am either going with the new Levo or the Scott Ransom (aluminum is ok), and even that Kelly’s Theos f90 looks amazing! Also, I am really curious how that Mondraker Crafty XR rides and overall performance of the bike! The choice is getting tough for me, March is when I am ordering my new bike! Cheers Sam!!!
