SPOCK AND CHAPEL VS A GORN
YOU CAN FIND IT IN STAR TREK STRANGE NEW WORLDS SEASON 2 EPISODE 10
#startrekstrangenewworlds - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Apparently this Gorn was actually played, like the original one from "Arena", by a man in a suit. Those are some terrifyingly realistic prosthetics.
Yup. And a giant of a man too. Stunt man Warren Scherer is very tall, almost 6’8”
i am loving how bad ass they are making kirk and the og crew look! Holy shit! That was an adult gorn and kirk fought it with his hand and won!
Technically he beat it by crafting a cannon, hand to hand he would have lost, even with his trademark Kirk-fu
That’s Spock
I don't care if you think it's going to die JUST KEEP SHOOTING.
I am loving the gorn. Purely terrifying.
They look and act like zenomorph ripoffs why not do something original? They’re supposed to be an interesting and intelligent space faring civilization not a alien creature
I am hating the way they showed the phaser. Phasers are supposed to be beam weapons. She should have fired a sustained phaser beam at the Gorn either killing it or actually disintegrating it spacesuit and all.!!!!
@@eskanda3434 they are intelligent, notice he was wearing an environmental suit, it's not just a creature, they have their own technology, but just like the Gorn in other star trek shows, they have similar mannerisms to lizards here on earth, they are predators! I think the design is awsome!
Now that is a great design for an alien, it's like a great white, nile crocodile with the agility of a gibbon and the physicality of a lion or tiger..This should have been a 2 or 3 parter.
This version of the GORN is more effective. There is an authenticity to it.
@@eskanda3434why would they not look like that, in actsul fact this a great improvement on the Xenomorph design.
The original design was classic but the characterisation of the original gorn was implausible.
That beginning shot was definitely inspired by Alien.
Jesus its like if the raptors from Jurassic Park suddenly lived in space
Reminds me a bit of the Elites from Halo.
Even their nature resembles the Xenomorphs from Alien
Strange New Worlds is so great. 🖖
😂sarcasm?
@@eskanda3434 Sarcasm? Hardly. I like the actors and the musical episode was just awesome. And this scene here had movie quality.
I used to be more than skeptical about the new series, but now especially because of Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds, I think it's finally getting better. ✌
@@harvey2906the music episode was hilarious. When the Klingons sang I just couldn’t 😂
And it's still just a guy in a rubber suit! 🎉
that's gotta be some impressive rubber
Dude came in like a Xenomorph.
I actually really like the Gorn. They would be powerful allies in the Federation. (I'm pretty sure they do eventually, at least according to the current canon).
Technically there hasn't been a canonical appearance of a starfleet Gorn yet, Star Trek online is not canon.
It's entirely possible it may happen someday, we have Klingons, Ferengi, delta quadrant species etc. Joining up so maybe someday an adventurous Gorn or an unlucky Gorn will be sent to join Starfleet to bring their people closer together
@@adambrown6669 I thought they were part of the Federation in that cartoon one, Lower Decks. I could be wrong, but I thought I saw an image of a Gorn wedding or something.
I don't know where the current canon will take the Gorn. In one non-canon alternate universe, the universe from the Star Fleet Battles tabletop wargames and Starfleet Command 1 and 2 computer games, the Federation and Gorn quickly realized, after the events of "Arena (TOS)," that they'd both made a misunderstanding and mutually apologized.
The resulting negotiations led to friendship and even a military alliance after the two powers discovered they're both enemies of the Romulans (in this universe, the famous Romulan plasma weapon was actually an invention they stole from the Gorn). The Federation even uses dinosaur names as codenames for Gorn ship classes (the way NATO has reporting names for Russian ship types), which the Gorn consider hilarious.
Given the way the Gorn are portrayed in SNW, this is never going to happen in the current interpretation of the main canon, but you never know, they might canonize the Star Fleet Battles universe thing about how the Gorn are actually composed of multiple related species and have one of them be less overtly hostile than these guys are.
@@mysticwolf75 they had a gorn wedding happen but they aren't members of starfleet, just non hostile co-existing species, like Romulans every second Thursday or Klingons 80% of the year
@@adambrown6669 Thanks for clearing that up.
So we are going for STE style Gorn, mixed a littel bit with the video game design. That's nice.
0:02 "Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!!!!"
I remember saying out loud in the theatre "leave the f-ng cat!"
@@chewiebacka4377 Jonesy and the Xenomorph were in a secret alliance!
Nurse Chapel went from doctors assistant to warrior princess.
This isn't her first fight.
Not really. She’s a war veteran
It's pretty reasonable she can shoot a phaser. It's not like she's doing jiu jitsu.
i think Chapel may be the hottest nurse in the entire timeline of star trek
What about Beverley? Or the EMH? I'm sure he'd have something to say to try and dispute that claim lol.
@@adambrown6669
Beverly and the EMH are doctors, not nurses.
It’s an elite from halo lol
They even have it in slow motion just like the OG show.
This gorn is wow. A gorn war. Yes
Too much gravity or too slowmo !
😂😂
I remember when phasers vaporized things.
she panicked and switched to stun. lol
@sleepingbackbone7581 sound wisdom, in a bear fight I normally switch my .44 magnum to a .22 LR
@@M60gunner1971 Wait... you can change caliber rounds to less lethal for your 44 Magnum?
Some people just take the hippocratic oath more seriously.
They nicked this alien from, well.. from ' Alien '.
I recognise the tail.
I honestly think they should've beamed the Gorn corpse on board. That corpse is gonna be a source of good intel.
Indeed.
Does no one know of the double tap rule in the future? The future generations need to watch horror movies from the 20th century.
Much better done with Chapel reaching for the phaser rather than fighting with her fists. Notice how her trip to Korby gets cut short? Am wondering will Spock cut her off after he discovers that being with her will either destroy her in the future or destroy the federation? They did this with PIke. She takes his hand after he kills the Gorn. She later tells him "We'll talk." He is now one of the team. He has killed an enemy. Her brain is in primitive survival mode.
I think they are already over. They had a thing, both found out it wasn't sustainable, Chapel got that promotion-thingy so it became even less sustainable, and it was over. And them holding hands and saying "we'll talk" just means they're gonna end it on good terms. Yknow, realizing they need to say and settle things before the other dies a space-death.
I don’t think the writers would have them hold hands if the relationship were over. If anything, this suggests they may reconcile. In fact, the entire Spock/Chapel plot line of this episode was created just to lead to this moment. Why have Chapel be on the Cuyoga and survive the attack? Why have Spock be the one to install the rockets? It was all to have Spock rescue Chapel. My suspicion is that Chapel will be delayed and/or change her mind about the internship, allowing her to resume her relationship with Spock.
@@BigNoseDog well she has to meet Corby at some point and get engaged to him to further her career. Cuz that's what she does...
A lot of people won't know that this Gorn was played by Ben Stiller and the reason people won't know that , is because I just made it up.
I just realised that she let the gorn die slowly, rather than stunning it and saving its life
SPOCK: My Girlfriend died so I'm better off sacrificing myself to end my suffering.
Chapel: My Boyfriend loves me after all, I'll save his butt then he can apologize.
Gorm: TF???
Me: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not entirely correct:
SPOCK; my girlfriend dumped me in front of the entire crew, we had a fight but I need to save her so I can apologize
CHAPEL: my boyfriend still loves me, despite me being a b**** so I'll save his butt cuz he can't and I'm a woman and I can do everything. Then when he tries to apologize I'll tell him, LATER, like I always do.
GORN: we really should eat them
I say the Gorn are too savage for there technology.
Perhaps they stole it
Like the klingons?
Wow human reasoning. It's not because their standard differ from us that they are inferior. We always underestimated our potential ennemies.
We don't yet know if these GORN we are seeing makes the the entirety of the species. Its very likely This is a soldier or warrior or scout and the body matches its role. Other Gorn might exist that has different body builds and functions some likely less hostile than this one.
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent That's true. They may have leadership cast. Some Reptiles keep growing, perhaps the oldest Gorn might be similar to Godzilla!
Anyone else get Alien Isolation vibes from this?
Hopefully the Gorn will never be demystified as in the alien movies
starfleet definitely needs phasers built into their ev suits
Space Rangers of Star Command!
In actuality though, that would be a very bad idea, because it eliminates the possibility of surrender if they are defeated. An opposing force would have to kill them in order to disarm them. Allowing yourself to be disarmed without dying allows the possibility of surrender if you are overwhelmed.
We could give them several dog walking leads so it just zips back to them
Nah, what they need are magnetic gloves attuned to their personal phaser's frequency. Having to reach for a weapon as it is moving further away from you is impractical when being able to magnetise it back to you is better. The range would be quite short. Roughly 1m, but could still prove more useful than not having it.
You don't want more negligent discharges on spacewalks.
Or at all.
They look a lot different in this.
I wonder if the Gorn species complex includes the species Sord from the TAS episode "The Jihad" is a part of. These SNW Gorn are very similar to him.
No matter how badly SNW wants the Gorn to be Xenomorphs, they arent Xenomorphs. The Federation hadnt encountered the Gorn until Kirk's time when they attacked Cestus III.
Better this than the old rubber suit or the janky STE CGI.
Besides all that, Star trek has always played a little loose with its continuity and that's good, helps avoid writing themselves into a corner when exploring parts of the star trek universe that happened before the old 60's show.
And also it's pretty unlikely that the Gorn never once showed up before Cestus III, especially if a territory claim was up for dispute
@@adambrown6669
What a coincidence. Rowan J. Coleman just posted a video on how Star Trek works best when creators follow the example of Gene Roddenberry by being flexible in regards to continuity:
czcams.com/video/Z6OtOTwZjiY/video.html
Weren't they in Enterprise?
@@farsaber
A Gorn did appear in the Mirror Universe episodes of Enterprise.
It’s an incomplete story. We don’t know how it will fit into canon because it hasn’t finished yet.
I’m OK with some creative licensing, though, considering this is some of the best storytelling that we’ve got since enterprise.
It seems that all too often, the phasers are set on pathetic.
I’m getting amazing spider man lizard, xemomorph and halo elite vibes for this gorn design
New Strange New Worlds Video !!!
czcams.com/video/rH3NWgR08fU/video.html
Kirk is still bad ass for fight one by himself in the original. Lol
Covenant invasion
Very good analogy for what is wrong with guns, they change the natures power ratio.
Depends on what type, ballistic weapons would not be as effective compared to the phasers of star trek that disintegrate
Go go Godzilla
Nurse Chapped-Hole should have stuck to making Spock soup.....
Far cry from Lower Decks "Gorn Wedding", but both are acceptable in their respective universes. 🤣
Lower decks used the original design, before it was updated for modern TV, had Lower decks been made after this episode, the Gorn would have looked like these Gorn, as both are in the same universe, things just get updates and enhancements over the years, just look at the klingons, they've had so many makeovers
Man they really have a good grasp on what makes a good villain on this show. This was such a great scene
Where is the fan edit of the original kirk vs gorn but its this thing?
They should have taken the body back to study.
...thats a suit? damn our makeup technology has advanced so much meanwhile... tokusatsu in japan still look like tokusatsu suits (but thats the appeal right?)
Gorns do not have tails..
well they do now and i have to say, im loving it.
GORN that we know of. I like this new version of GORN
It never ceases to both amaze and annoy me that film makers still make scenes like this treating movement in space, where they move like their wading through water that slows them down. Their in space. Not under water. There IS a difference in how people move. Things don't slow down in space, there's just no gravity. You still move at "normal" speed. Producers and film makers need to stop shooting scenes of actors sloshing through slow moving water currents.
They have done the slow motion for dramatic effect. When Spock lands on the Cayuga, you hear the thump of his magnetic boots on the hull. Every time I watch this, I turn the volume up boom, boom, boom, boom, and the theme plays behind it. It is all for dramatic effects.
I understand that in space, there is no up or down. Left or right, as there is no gravity. But the slow motion just makes it more emotional because it is with Spock and Christine. Science fiction is just that. Fiction.
Star Fleet should really added sword to their space suit.
actually a Jedi sword would be better
Where is the ending?
Bah. Kirk took one on solo.
With a gun
Stab the glass helmet with something sharp.
Too bad the Gorn did not come equipped with something sharp...
...oh wait.
@@patriciachang8666something about strangling with a tail, snarling and grabbing the helmet just doesn't quite lead me to the same conclusion.
@@adambrown6669 can be a defense move. He does not really hurt them just neutrolize them
@@patriciachang8666 defensive strangulation isn't common practice, plus the captain of the wreckage they are on got impregnated by a gorn so it's likely that particular Gorn was probably going to incapacitate them both and then bring them back to use as either food or breeding sacks
@@adambrown6669 Given he was exploring the wreck himself likely for intel or similar, I say he's a grunt soldier or warrior. Likely will take both for food more than breeding.
Does this Gorn have acid blood?
Just askin'.
Isn't this Sigourney Weaver's fight???
What SNW did to the Gorn was horrible. And what the creatives have done with Chapel is ABYSMAL.
not to mention Spock too
@@Patricia599And M'Benga. Hell let's just include any OG characters that are in that show.
@@MrMikellsof88 M'Benga like Chapel, seemed to be a quiet, dignified character, intelligent. Now he's a traumatized murderer, with Chapel as his accessory to murder. Never mind that, she's a player and you have to wonder what the rest of the crew thinks about her and how Spock would even consider her as a potential love interest. It's' mind boggling.
@@Patricia599What I think was a very dangerous change to M'Benga was the fact that, as you said he was a quiet, dignified and intelligent character. This retcon of the character has him breaking Starfleet regulations whenever they suit him (keeping his daughter in transporter stasis.)
What these hack writers can't comprehend is that the Enterprise's reputation as a ship where officers flew by the seat of their pants was a legacy from KIRK'S captaincy of the ship. Pike wasn't a rule breaker. But now that they need to retcon everything, he is ... at times.
Una should be in prison. La'an shouldn't be in Starfleet. Anyone who disagrees is doing so out of ignorance.
@@MrMikellsof88 Ortegas should also be demoted or disciplined as Spock should have also been for stealing the Enterprise and not passing along a very serious message from a Starfleet officer in trouble. Chapel should be removed for her lack of professional conduct and likely should also be in prison as an accessory to murder/manslaughter and obstructing justice. The only character who might be morally good is Uhura.
Why the hell are all star trek shows so dark now. And by dark I mean lighting. It's like they have all the dimmer lights on low and everything is blue. I remember when star trek was bright and colorful.
Because this specific scene is happening in already destroyed ship and energy is off.
All the newer shows are very dark not just Star Trek, not sure why I don’t like it either
Dark lighting = gritty.
I think that's the mentality.
Love reboot of gorn... Way better than campy Tos version... No species could get sentience like that.. physically impossible... reptilian very possible... But in order to get spaceborn they would have to master certain intellectual milestones and evolve.
Except the GORN aren't repltilian. They could be a warm blooded, and they don't lay eggs. Biologically they could be anything unknown.
They might even have consciousness but higher form of instinct.
This GORN is way better and more plausible.
Or they could have been bred to go into space, Liaka the cosmonaut space dog or Ham the space chimp anyone.
If aliens had found her capsule what the would they think of intelligence on our planet.
Ham and Liaka were trained to operate certain controls in experiments.
In essence humans were not the first species to go into space.
I find it incredulous that they are able to get into space or operate a ship. So far, we've seen nothing indicating they possess reasoning capability, just pure murderous rage.
Then explain Laika the dog or Ham the chip, essentially human were not the first biological beings to leave Earth. They both were trained to operate simple controls in their ship.................... 💀
@@harvestcanada They have intelligence and conditioning, not reasoning capability.
If they want to go with the space monster theme, should be rip off from Starcraft Zerg instead of xenomorph astronauts.
Thats more the Tholians actually . The Gorn being a Alien Xenomorph and Elite hybrid isn't a bad thing.
I don't think the special effects crew understands how space works, your not in the water your movements are being slowed down.
Fast movements create lots of torque. You have zero leverage. They move slowly so they don't go spinning off in an unintended direction.
@@kempiro IT doesn't create that much torque. Most of that comes from the EV suit which has a lot more mass then the suit's they use in this show. If you don't beleive me just look at some videos of them moving around inside the ISS.
Would others call them the Arxur?
The Nature of Predators, by SpacePaladin15
What's the point of a peripheral illumination of your face inside your helmet, except for showing the audience your face?
Ive seen the whole episode. I think that gorn was there to hep them
You sure you watched the episode dude? It tried to kill them after destroying the ship and wiping out most of a colony...
@@EvilDuckOfDoom This gorn was maniipulating the ship. For me he was trying to make the same that they were planning. Destroying the weapon by crashing it. The gorn are the enemy that does not mean all the gorns are bad
Now he’s Gorn outside..
Unfortunately one half decent scene doesn't really make up for the rest of what has been a pretty poor science fiction for babies and Dr Who fans season.
These scene has very odd choreography and timing.
Well, it is a zero gravity environment.
@@bryanemilius1606 That's the point. The movements don't feel natural at all compared to how we know, beyond a fact, that zero gravity works.
Gorn vs Aliens' alien...where is your money going to?
whoever commences orbital bombardment
in a melee, the alien. In a war, the gorn.
@@beastinthesky6774could be close though in the melee if the Gorn have suits that can protect from phaser blasts set to kill.
They also seem to be capable of planting young inside opponents, would be interesting to see what would happen if they did that to a xenomorph.
Beyond that though Gorn are intelligent and have better technology than any human in their origin universe could dream of, so it would end up as a slaughter in favour of the Gorn
Like the Tholians in Enterprise, the Gorn shouldn't be in this. With the Tholians, their encounter in TOS felt like they were a race recently encountered by Starfleet rather then one familiar to them. The Gorn in TOS were an unknown threat who attacked the colony in Arena.
Star trek at its best.... We could just Shot him but no.... we dicide to let him die a terrible brutal death. Gene Roddenberry must be so proud.... But the Gorn looked cool.
Ethan Peck is way better than Zachary Quinto!
Don't know... They are BOTH good...
But I am liking this one in this setting...
well that was lame
Quick but not merciful......
Strange New World Gorn or how i the call Cheap Xenomorph Rip Off.
Make something original and pitch it then. Oh...you can't? Lame.
Why are they moving so slowly? Its space, not underwater.
No originality.
Good job the Enterprise has that big strong mostly female crew lol
Who is triggered special snowflake?
@@ExtremeMadnessX the truth hurts eh? It's called casting bias to promote an ideology.
@@Patricia599 What ideology? Star Trek has always been "woke."...
The fact that they have to be genetically enhanced whatevers to be physically strong tells a story... ;)
I always find it funny when a supposedly scary and strong alien is defeated in hand-to-hand combat, the fans start cheering for their favorite character being strong enough to beat this ''scary and strong alien'' all by themselves... but the fans fail to see the full picture...
This makes the Gorn look weak and pathetic. You've just undone what ever emotions their appearance garnered and turned them into... well, not a big threat essentially. All it takes is a phaser and some hand-to-hand action by regular humanoids.
This is the exact same thing they did in that other new Star Trek show where this woman killed two Klingon warriors in hand-to-hand combat... yeah, she's awesome for being able to do that BUT at the same time you've killed the Klingons as major threat if a female human can kill two of their warrior class at once.... actually, just to stop all the feminists in their track, I would be saying THE EXACT SAME THING if it was a man killing two Klingons at once...
For the most part, the writers of Star Trek and its many spinoffs, have no creativity when it comes to alien morphology. All the aliens look like humans with bad plastic surgery All they need to do is to look to mother nature who designed a limitless amount of different life forms over the last several billion years of earth's history
For the most part they were working within the limitations of early CGI technology and what budget was available.... Duh.
that gorn looked like a human to you? damn what kind of ugly humans do you know
Tholians, Hydrans and 8472 were pretty creative.
