STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME -- Shatner vs. Gorn Trailer

- Reprise of legendary 1967 TV battle between Shatner's Captain Kirk and lizard-like alien Gorn puts spotlight on the upcoming release of STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME.
In the nearly five decades since the U.S.S. Enterprise first ventured into space, her crew has encountered untold foes, but few enemies have been quite as memorable as the Gorn.
The savage, lizard-like race has been seen only fleetingly on screen, most memorably in the TV series' first-season episode "Arena" -- but STAR TREK® The Video Game is about to change that.

I think one of the coolest things about Shatner is his willingness to poke fun at himself.
He does have a pretty good sense of humor. It's one of the things I like about him.
@@bwhog Agreed. He was great in Brad Paisley's video "Celebrity", too.
He's kinda had to learn to after he snapped and lashed out at his fanbase...
@@Eisen_Jaeger Although, to be fair, when you basically get mobbed wherever you go, tensions can sometimes run high. He is far from the worst celebrity out there.
@@Eisen_JaegerGet a life! 😂😂😂
I'm genuinely impressed with how accurately both of them reprised their roles - especially the Gorn who would have had to travel a very long way to get to Earth to film this.
He used impuse drive... the first fight dates to decades ago, lol!
I'm sure the Metrons teleported him here.
@@claudioaoliver * @@claudioaoliver *impulse only goes up to 1/4rth the speed of Warp 1, maybe 1/2 with speciap modification but flight at that speed in conventional space is pretty dangerous to hupl integrity, even with the very best deflector array system.

The Starfleet GSA per diem rates are out of this world.
This is priceless. Thank you, William Shatner ... and whoever's in the Gorn costume!
No costume. Only Gorn.
Costume?
@@RoryCloud thisss is your opponent speaking. I have heard every word you have said.
Just might be....
Michael Gorn.
Costume? He only wears his costume on the plane.
one of the funniest commercials ever. Shatner spoofing his fight with the Gorn!
"now you're over-acting" he's spoofing himself too, lol
Total fun!! Who knew they would become friends??!!
And the Gorn playing along with it....lol
I LOVE that last line.. "alright, now you're over-acting.." ahaha
Ironic coming from him....

I grew up watching Star Trek. Nothing came close. Shatner is larger than life. Forever a fan!
This commercial was a score on so many levels. Creative, great nostalgia and humorously self deprecating. Highest possible marks.
+InformationIsTheEdge Touche Too bad the video game didn't even come close. Ohh wait it didn't have Nimoy or Shatner...no wonder.
The issues with it were more than just the mere lack of the original characters.
There hasn't been many good Star Trek games as there has been with Star Wars games, the only Star Trek games which I found were good was Voyager Elite Force, Elite Force 2, and Star Trek Online.
Avoozl
I actually never played the game but I did enjoy the commercial.
What dude, seriously. Armada was quite fun, and Armada II was alright even if it wasnt spectacular. And Bridge Commander was fairly well recieved as well. Also TNG A Final Unity was one of the most immersive and in depth stories in a video game that I had seen up to that point.
But those aside how do you forget Klingon Academy. IMO the best trek game ever made. Really made you feel like you commanded a klingon warship and tied in beautifully to the story of Star Trek VI
that said, SW games do have a better track record. The Dark Forces series and EAW were legendary
@@AvoozlPlays what about the very best one? Bridge commander
Shatner is Iconic, like the Beatles. I cannot imagine anyone else playing captain kirk. The impact that this man has had on the entire country over the last 60 years is amazing.
What do you think of Paul Wesley portrayal of Kirk on snw ?
and what about them margarine commercials !
eh so so.... hes got the wrong facial structure but the young spock is killin it. @@ryanmussell739
I haven't seen much of him yet (it only just became available on P+ in Canada, but from the clips I have seen, he just doesn't have much command presence and seems kind of scrawny. The latter is fine since he can bulk up, but he really needs the former to play Kirk.
What country? Shatner is Canadian but Star Trek was made in the USA.
There is no way anyone can ever replace Shatner as Kirk. He was born to be the captain of the Enterprise.
Or Spock
Let's not forget his work as "The Big Giant Head" on Third Rick From the Sun, or "Denny Crane" from Boston Legal

Being old enough to have seen the original Kirk vs Gorn battle, this is amazing. Never seen this before but I love it - catches perfectly the "you guys move in slow motion and we'll speed in up in post-production - oops!" style!
Me and u are both late I'm just seeing this and remember that episode as a kid luv star trek.
This just popped up in my feed as well. Better late than never
You know, reruns exist, right? And this is like one of the most popular episode ever… I was born 30 years after this episode aired and guess what… I'm still "old enough" to have seen the original Kirk versus Gorn fight… Because this isn't a baseball game in the 1920s where you have to flex about the fact that you saw it.
@@evilsWa you are like George Takei. Wonder why he's not the popular one?
@@evilsWa - Ummm, actually it is. Way back in the day they had this thing called network television, where shows would be seen usually weekly. I saw this episode when it was initially broadcast.
I still cannot believe he is 83, for the longest time he looked 50-60
Shiiiiiiit I guess I never did the maths but... 83 ? Wow.
CartwAalbiel I think he has had surgery though :P
Mikael Murstam the gorn?
Ian Evans most likely, no one got that sharp teeth naturally
84 now, lol.
Dude is 92…and looks and acts like he’s in his 50s. Amazing.
He was 82 when this was filmed, but still delivered a very impressive performance.
I've seen Shatner in his new series on Netflix. He is looking his age. For an old man in this video he is pretty fat. His stomach looks very tight. That tight gut makes me uncomfortable. It makes me feel like his gut is going to bust open. Hernia's are a real problem for older men and that weight could be a killer. I think Bill Shatner's secret to long life is that he enjoys living. He got to the captain on an iconic Sci-Fi show. He starred in all the movies. He was TJ Hooker and the Big Head guy on 3rd Rock from the Sun. He was on tv shows, in many, many movies. He's had a lot of fun being the top dog. Let's face it too, as Captain Kirk, chubby or not, he was handsome, dashing. He got the babes. He had George Takei hating him to this day. I think Shatner loves it, loves being who he is. And he just has a way of being happy. I think this keeps him alive. Be happy and stay alive. Be depressed, sad and angry and you're gonna make yourself sick. Those kind of people usually die younger. How many bitter old bastards live to be very old? Probably way more that I know is the answer.
@@jaxflfreebird yeah so there are two different kinds of fat. Tight stomach and sloppy stomach. I too am of the tight stomach fat. My best friend gets the sloppy loose fat. It's just genetics.
@@JayPlaysEverything Maybe the too tight stomach people just have more muscle to hold the fat back. The loose stomach people probably just have less muscle.
Till he is...92 IYKIYKIYK

It was the only good thing that came from there
I just love Shatner! He doesn't take himself too seriously and he isn't afraid to just do whatever the heck he wants to do....sing, poetry, act, write...just whatever.
If only the rest of the world had the balls to be themselves
You ever heard Bill sing? Really... You... don't want to. (Feat. The Kirk Pause😅)
@@chrismaguire3667 thats the point. Shatner isn't a singer. Most folks would avoid Karaoke. Shatner instead does an album. He just leans into life. I love that.
@@txkevin3467 Can't deny that!😁
The only downside to this amazing trailer is that the game is going to have a hard time beating it.
Oh my gosh it Scott Manley!
and, that it uses the JJ wannabe versions of the characters

That's why he keeps getting tired. He's trying to go as fast as he did when he was young, but he can't. He has to slow down.

It doesn't really matter how many times I watched this commercial, this gig never gets old, it works in so many levels.
Love the way Shatner throws in the “oh yeah!” With his chops - like “still got it baby!”
... and he seems so genuine at the beginning “you keep getting me killed”....
This is hysterical! Faithful to the original, and great fun. However, if you have ever seen snakes strike at prey, or lizards run, you know the Gorn suffered from human stereotyping about reptiles!
Bill Shatner is that glorious anomaly. The man who created an iconic character and then satirizes that character better than anyone else ever could! So many egos would have been bruised or crushed by relentless parody, Bill just says "Hold my Romulan ale" and shows them how it's really done!
Shatner is iconic! I wish him long life and health because the world needs him.
Always said live long and prosper 😊
Mr Shatner is not just a national treasure, he’s a GLOBAL treasure!!! From a UK based Star Trek super fan 🤩🤩🤩
Don't forget - Shatner is a Canadian - he's proud of that fact (we're a proud people; True North Strong and Free).
Seriously, one of the most satisfying things I've seen in my 54 years. As a huge William Shatner fan, I am so happy to see him recreate this scene, which is such an iconic scene in the series. He gave the fans something more to reminisce about.
How brilliant is william shatner , and he got to go to space the man is a total legend nothing but love for the guy
One of the funniest things I've ever seen! EVERYONE, of a certain age, fondly remembers the first time they watched this classic episode. Thanks.
The overacting line was the biggest laugh for me.
I just love Shatner. My childhood hero.
Brilliant! I love it when older legendary movie/TV stars are self-deprecatory enough to parody themselves like this. Excellent! Kudos to you Mr. Shatner! Go Bill!
Oh My Gosh!!!!
This is Hysterical!!! The exact same moves and expressions. Priceless! Shatner IS THE BOMB😂😆😂😅
And the exact music score!🤣
The best part 4me is when Shatner,..err Kirk...i mean Will..clasps his hands & hits the gorn on the back, exactly like in the 60's episode.😄🤣
This is one of those rare commercial gems that's so good you watch it twice.
why isn't this a sitcom? lol
"That Darn Gorn"
Captain Kirk and Gorn in a nursing home.
That Gorn costume seems even more ridiculous today than in the 60s ! I would totally watch the sitcom though , waayy better than Game of Thrones season 8 !
Because 2 kirks a khan and a pizza place didn't work out
I would totally watch that!
I almost cried of excitement and joy when The Shat put on his Cap'n Kirk fightin' face at 0:24
I don’t care what anyone else says…..I LOVE this man! William Shatner/Captain Kirk, thank you for all the fun and humor you’ve given me over these many years.💖
Hard mode: You begin the game wearing a red shirt
Impossible mode: you begin the game wearing a purple shirt.
Exactly
😂
David Shapiro has a channel where that's always part of his presentation.
But it's NextGen red, so - with the collar pips - he's being a Captain.
Wow, someone did a nice job on that Gorn suit! And great job re-living the old fight choreography!

This is so great! Shatner will always be THE Captain of the Enterprise. The fact that you can have a bit of fun and not be a stick in the mud is what gives Star Trek its charm. Live Long and Prosper :)

Funny and believable! I love the matter-of-fact style between senior Shatner and the older Gorn.
Shatner is a legend. Interesting how they chose him for the advert to.
EASILY the greatest trailer this game could have. I seriously am interested in this game now just because of a simple, well done commercial.

this one minute of my life was better than all the "new" star trek movies combined!
Я рад что они примерились спустя столько лет... их битва была легендарной💪🏻
one word for this video : AMAZING
for me Shatner is still Captain Kirk
Why is it that this trailer was the best Star Trek ad? The three movies, and video game did not deserve this level of cool.
It's awesome how TOS Kirk's battle with the Gorn was a lesson in pacifism while Star Trek: The Video Game's battle with the Gorn is just a pew-pew phaser rifle battle.
That's because the original battle with the Gorn commander and Kirk was being controlled by the Metrones, with no referees to limit the combat all bets are off as far as pacifism and fair play.
Smith Jones Yeah, the Metrones were controlling everything. They keep real good time... wait, that's the Metronomes....
That is the Kelvinverse in a nutshell.
@David Roberts With the help of Kurtzman and crew.
The Arena was a lesson in mercy not pacifism. There is a big difference.
I realize that this is an old video, however out of all the spoofs/comedy sketches that William Shatner has done of himself relating to TOS this has to be the best one! All the fighting moves were accurate to the original episode "Arena", along with how time makes those same moves somewhat painful later in life. Very funny 🤣! Great comical tribute!
Only two words can describe this: hilarious and awesome.
The seat cushion throw and duck was Olympic Gold. And I love the pause between “this” and “kind of thing.”
Utter brilliance. Can I pay for a full version of this instead of the game?
How in the world, after all these years, did they ever find that Gorn costume?! That is brilliant!
Was it Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler that told Graham Norton that they owned the original Gorn head? And got thoroughly mocked for it.
Shatner might be 82 now, but he's still a damn funny comedian!!!
I loved the spoof/homage to "Arena" from Star Trek-TOS.
We need a star trek sitcom this is hilarious kirk and the gorn still got the moves 😂
Oh how I miss Shatner. He is comic gold.
I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this.
"We're both too old for this." XD
It’s just sad to not be able to have the other original cast members in this as well. Live long and prosper William!
The only good thing to come from this game.
Same here
All praise the CZcams algorithm, bringing me content I didn’t know existed, and now can’t live without!
This one was so much better choreographed than the original.
No, just different. This is a spoof of the original, and they kept the choreography pretty much the same, albeit occasionally stopping for a joke.
I think the pillow 'boulder' was a little heavier than the boulder used in the show.
Nope, no homemade cannon.
Poke him with the soft cushion! (Have you got all the suffing at one end?)
Once upon a time, in a retirement home far, far away, there were two extraordinary residents named Kirk and the Gorn. Kirk, a legendary Starfleet captain known for his daring adventures, and the Gorn, a reptilian alien species encountered by Kirk during his spacefaring days, had found themselves in a rather unexpected situation - they were now roommates in their golden years.
At first, Kirk and the Gorn were skeptical of each other. After all, their encounters in the past had been less than friendly. But as they spent more time together, they discovered a shared sense of humor and a mutual respect for their respective histories.
Every day, the duo would gather in the common room, regaling their fellow retirees with stories of their intergalactic escapades. Kirk would captivate the audience with tales of exploring new planets, battling Klingons, and outsmarting alien adversaries. The Gorn, on the other hand, would recount his own perspective of those encounters, shedding light on the complexities of their previous conflicts.
Their stories would often spark lively debates among the residents, turning the retirement home into a hub of excitement and imagination. It was as if the residents were transported to distant galaxies, experiencing the thrill of space exploration from the comfort of their armchairs.
As time went on, Kirk and the Gorn formed an unlikely friendship. They shared meals together, engaged in friendly competitions, and even organized movie nights where they would watch classic science fiction films. They discovered that despite their past differences, they had more in common than they could have ever imagined.
Their presence in the retirement home brought joy and inspiration to the other residents. KIRK OUT!
Nicely done.
Ok, now I want a re-reboot with Shatner. I don't care how old he is. DO IT!
said it a million times, Shatner is a legend... he lived long and certainly prospered
Damn, the guys in his 80's and can still kickass.
Brilliant performance from Both William Shatner and Tom Cruise.
Nostalgic tears everywhere on this one and from everybody.
No way is the game going to as good as this fantastic trailer..🤔
LOL. This is fantastic! "Now you're overacting"! Best laugh I had all week! 🤣🤣🤣
I love the idea of a game about fighting the Gorn because in the original episode, the Gorn were depicted as only defending their territory from what they saw as an attempt to take over their space. The point of the episode was that the Gorn weren't big lizard monsters and what do we do? Make a game where they were big lizard monsters.
Then there is Strange New Worlds. I start out loving it, start to get disillusioned, go back to liking it, then they reprise the Gorns at the end of Season 1. It was either a blatant rip-off of 'Aliens', or an homage to 'Aliens'. (Kinda felt like a rip-off, but I am on the favorable side of riding that fence with ST:SNW) any way I thought that was going to be 'left behind' but they reintroduced them in the 2nd season cliffhanger. (Now they have the Gorn as Dangerous space venturing Aliens- IDK if I buy it?)
Anyway- I thought this ad was current (with Paramount trying to push the Gorn in SNW), I did not remember this game 10 Years ago.
Then they make a show with the Gorn as savage monsters that eat people
@@greenman8 An homage is a rip off.
@@captainjefferies9047 I hate to admit it, but I think you are right.
Overall, I give SNW a 'C-' it passes, a few notable episodes, some very cringe. (Thinking of their 'Cop Rock' attempt S2E9, sheesh!)

Priceless, man! Love it! Can't stop laughing. 😅❤
I have to say ot is impressive that Star Trek showrunners and game developers have taken the hokiest 60's costumed alien species and transformed it into a terrifying threat for the Federation. It demonstrates that sometimes a creature-concept exceeds its execution (and that we really do love lizard people).
