The answer is The Mantreads! But I wasn't aware of this when I made the video so missed them out! If you stack opponents on top of each other then the guy at the very bottom guy takes a ridiculous amount of damage.
Other stuff to mention:
1) The Machina can do a lot of damage to multiple targets but doesn't beat the backstab or stickies for a single target
2) The game only detonates enough stickies needed to kill the target, that's why we see low damage numbers when testing
3) You can achieve a higher damage number when backstabbing a Heavy if you overheal them to 450 and then switch over to the FoS and immediately backstab. This gives 5400 damage beating the Scottish Resistance!
4) I missed out the Shotgun and Syringe gun. Probably as I don't think of these as Primaries even though they are. So here are the numbers. I've added the Revolver too as some of you were interested:
Syringe Gun Point Blank = 86 dps
Mid Range = 71 dps
Burst = 14
Revolver Point Blank = 97 dps
Mid Range = 66
dps Burst = 60
Shotgun Point Blank = 82 DPS
Mid Range = ~45 dps

Since stickies actually blow up one by one and not at the same time, I am guessing that it only counts two or three crit stickies since that is enough to kill the Heavy and the rest just blow up right after his death, hence the very small numbers.

This could be the case considering that it also only detonates the minimum amount of stickies that can kill you if you’re in the blast radius as in in LP’s how it feels to play demo extra
@@dustbowl_ I think it's more the fact that it probably uses a for loop and will calculate the damage for each sticky but once they are dead, damage can't be built up anymore so that's why it caps at two to three stickies.
@@dustbowl_ Well, that's how it plays out, but that isn't quite how the logic works in game. It's just because stickies detonate in order from oldest to newest, with a small delay. It doesn't really calculate how many it takes.
Yep. This is also why you can det two stickies at close range and kill yourself without killing he enemy. The first sticky damages you both. If it kills you then the second sticky evaporates. Otherwise The second sticky damage is applied. But it applies to you first, so it might also not kill your opponent. So you can actually survive unlimited stickies by getting really close to a hurt demoman.

Though Spy doesn't have a primary, his revolver counts as a secondary.
@@Heavylicious Hmm, yes, I did forget the Spy technically has no primary. I just personally consider Revolver as Primary instead of Secondary and Sapper as Secondary instead of Building.

@@t.o.h.b8501 besically when someone from the enemy team walks on a teleporter and someone from the engineer's team takes the entrance while the person is still touching the exit the person on the exit will die no matter what. Even if he is stock ubered. Because that's a feature from the original Quake game which team fortress was a mod for. It can also happen when an enemy spy takes the entrance and kills someone on the exit from the engineer's team

It’s worth mentioning that you didn’t include the vulnerability the steak sandvich gives you.
The Steak only gives the vulnerability if the user is not hit by a critical shot, so the warrior's spirit by itself would be better.

Technically if you perfectly sync together 4 rockets on a map that was designed to allow it, you could do >400 burst damage
Another thing worth noting is that it’s also possible to sync a market garden with the rockets, adding up to >600.
@@winsonlu3559 I dunno if this COULD happen but you sync a market, treads stop like a millisecond after and as you stomp you sync up four crockets.... 100 x4 is 400, x3 is 1200, plus garden for 195 for 1395... (59 ×3) +10, rounded to 60 instead of 59 for simplicity... 190 + 1395...

Toofty, the man treads are the strongest for a single instant of damage, even more than a buffed brass beast, allowing you to do quadrillions of damage in a single hit. There’s some math behind it, but After Breakfast with Squim-Jim made an amazing video, that talks about the Soldiers highest damage output.

Tf2 logic: A stab wound in the back is more deadly than 8 bombs exploding you into pieces
A stab wound directly to the spinal column would paralyze everything below that point, causing the victim’s organs to fail and die of most likely heart problems or lack of oxygen. Even if they get help they would most likely perish.
The explosives would most certainly kill whether through the direct burns/shrapnel or through internal damage via shockwave. (likely brain trauma with that much explosive).
Then again, I’m no expert of bodily harm so...

You can do the expected sticky damage in Versus Saxton Hale mode, because the boss can tank that damage. Under the right circumstances backstabs can also do 7k+ damage there.
Or just mvm with crit canteens and firing speed on the tank.

With the stickies at the beginning, I’m pretty sure what happened is when you detonate the game calculated how many stickies need to explode to kill a player and only use that many stickies... so if only say 3 stickies was needed to kill them then all of the stickies exploded but only 3 actually dealt damage

Here's an idea: How much healing per second on one target is possible? stacked up with dispensers medics and mad-milk etc. If it was theroreticly infinite, how much could you get with a team size of only 12 people?
Probably 11 Medics and one Engineer.

I believe Mr.LazyPurple explains in his demo video that stickies explode enough to kill what's around it, then the rest just disappear into nothing. So the damage you do is the damage for the # of stickies needed to kill that player.
No it's only *if* the demo that laid the stickies is in the blast radius. In that case the game will only detonate the number of stickies nessecary to kill the friendly demo that laid the trap. So if that demo was at 50 hp and standing on top of his trap along with a full health heavy only one sticky would explode because it's the nessecary number to kill the demo. The rest of the trap then dissappears because the demo that laid them is now ded.

I think the thing happening with stickies is:
Stickybombs first calculate how many of them are enough to kill the person in their explosion radius. Let's say, 2 out of 8 *crit* stickies are enough to kill an overhealed Heavy. Only two of them explode, the rest of them fizzle out.
That is such a weird way for them to work.
It would be interesting to look at cases where damage is done across multiple enemies. Crit stickies would do a lot more, and weapons like the machina come in mind.
Would also be interesting to look at improvements made by mvm upgrades.

1:38 I have a possible explanation for the stickies : The game calculate first how much stickies are needed to kill the player (2 in that case) and the others stickies are ignored from the calculation. The backstab stays a mystery, hope it helped.

The Dragon’s Fury is very interesting, very poor initial damage, but a burst close to the scattergun with very fast fireing speed and a dps close to the flamethrower. Very nice video

Consider the Huo-Long Heater. While shooting at targets on fire and while the target is in the effective range of the fire ring that the Heater produces, it should beat out the brass beast. Also talk about telefrags. Telefrags aren't really a weapon, but it is burst damage method that is viable in some situations. Taunt kills could also be another thing you mention. Also falling on someone with mantreads from an insanely high height might be something to look at. A full crit salvo from an air strike as well.

I imagine the stickies has something to go along these lines: within a single tick of the game, when detonating the stickies, some priority order is preferred and the stickies are detonated in sequence (let’s assume it’s first laid to last laid). The first sticky is detonated, then the character runs a check to see if they’re alive, if they are then the damage for the next sticky is applied, if they’re still alive then the third sticky deals damage, until you either run out of stickies or kill the enemy. So the numbers are only adding up to 335 or 670 because they can only actually hit 1-2 stickies. This doesn’t affect the momentum, since that’s applied after all the stickies are detonated in that tick, but before the character has the chance to move away from the stickies.

It's likely that the damage registry does not perfectly wait for all stickybombs. We can think of all scripts and functions to run in a disorderly waiting line of "first come, first serve" where there is a script that very rapidly checks if the heavy has 0 health and would run a kill script if so. But because only one script can run at a time, there are other scripts where the demoman's stickies detonate, and give out their damage to any collision hulls within their radius. This happens a couple times before the "0 health" check can be made, which has queued in itself in between a few crit stickies each running their own detonation script (which we see all at the same time because of the speed of these scripts) meaning damage numbers beyond the killing blow can and will be inconsistent and purely coincidental.
I think remember hearing pyro could get a really high dps while combo-ing the degreaser and some secondary (I think it was the panic attack for the switch speed?).

Not sure if anyone said this, but if you set 31 soldiers on top of each other in a RED/BLU pattern, equip them all with mantreads, equip the mantreads yourself, then fall enough to do fall damage to the soldier on top, it will do 3x damage. And that soldier will deal 3x of that damage to the one below him, and this goes on and you can get something like 3.4Qd damage.

You can get 450 overheal on the heavy with fists of steel if you heal before he pulls the fists out
One of the highest sources of damages could be 1 overhealed heavy using the hurtme cmd. He has also eaten the buffalo steak sandwich, has the warrior's spirit out, and has been marked for death plus 1 demos using the Scotishresistance well being under the effects of crits.

just saying, if you pick the right corner, a brass beast heavy is just as instakilling as a sticky trap. like the room in between a team's middle spawn door and lower balcony on hightower, if you stand in the corner closest to enemy spawn and rev up, you can kill full health heavies before they have time to react and back up. only works if they arent listening for a loud machine gun revving up 2 feet from them
Would love to see the bazaar bargain versus the stock, specifically for the full shot with each level of heads. I think I know what the answer is, but it would be interesting to see total amount of damage output for 25 bullets

I believe the ramp-up on sentries only affects the rockets, and not the bullets. So, bullets always deal the same damage, but rockets deal more damage the closer they are to the Engineer, (not the sentry), when they blow up.

the hou long heater would be good too because of the ring of fire and with point blank range the hou long will add up on dps cause when a eneime is lit on fire theres a damage boost with the burn damage as well with the ring of fire

I don't know about the back stab, but if I am correct the game only calculates the damage needed to kill a person, and don't count any extra explosives next to them, BUT note that I only heard this from the internet a few times, so it might not be true.

The most likely reason that the crit stickies didn't show all the damage is because the target had already died by the time they were fully processed.
Events don't happen simultaneously on servers, they happen sequentially but very quickly and the info about them is sent all at once at set intervals to make them _feel_ simultaneous. The last stickies to be calculated couldn't deal damage to the target because he'd already been killed by then; the damage numbers on-screen are literally the damage that was dealt.

The Sentry Gun DPS for point blank I thought would easily be 7 times or more that of the reloading weapons. I mean so many times I got vaporized by a Sentry Gun I was standing next to when something pushed away my Medic (or when I was relying on a Spy to sap the Sentry Gun but he just sapped and started shooting the Engineer letting him remove the sapper). In contrast many times I've been right in the faces of Soldiers, Demomen, and Scouts and while they have a clear shot at me with max rampup, the time between the time they shoot the first shot and the time I die is usually much longer than the Sentry Gun.
