New Mike Patey video? I must stop whatever I’m doing and click. I could literally listen to this gentleman speak about physics math and engineering all day. So much talent in one human wrapped up in a sincerely kind person. Top tier respect from me, sir for pretty much everything you, your brother and family accomplish.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Get a room…
I'm just an excavator operator, I must advance to something else
@@Captndarty thanks for proving my point.
I could listen to him talk about all those things and seem like I know exactly what he is talking about, 15 mins after someone asks me what’s 75X3 and I’m an idiot again.
Mike you are one of the few people left that can pull off this kind of genius, with Burt Rutan retiring there aren't many of you left.
Here's to us, and those like us ........ damn few of us left. Cheers!
there are more like him, they just lack the funds.
@@SoloRenegade Then they’re really not like him. He obviously did what he had to do to live the life he lives.
This guy is an insomniac workaholic.
@@Bendejo-lm8wo That's not exactly true. part of success in life is simply being in the right place at the right time. luck. Studies show this. Many people have done exactly the same as Mike Patey and others and never succeeded. and often times it was a matter of timing. they introduced a new idea too early or even to late, when another person hit it at just the right moment. Hard work counts, but there are tons of people that work just as hard, if not harder. there are people smarter too. Now, it doesn't take pure smarts to succeed, we know that. but timing can be everything.
I'm not here to rain on Mike's success. from what I know he earned and deserves every bit of it.
the issue I'm here to rain on is the false idea that such people are rare, in short supply, and the baseless accusation that they aren't hard working enough to achieve the same.
There are people that have far cooler ideas, and know far more than he does about those ideas, are comparably as hard working, and they simply never got the right opportunities to achieve a level of success that enables them to self fund their visions. workaholics are not in short supply, and people with ideas are not in short supply either. the opportunities to pursue them are. And not everyone is a good business person either, and that prevents a great many of people from ever earning enough alone. They have amazing ideas and talent, but need business partners to help them where they are lacking.
the Great Filter preventing great minds from achieving their potential is frustrating at times. I se far too many people who clearly have potential crushed by society doing everything in their power to destroy them.
@@SoloRenegadenot sure where you live, but the world I have seen definitely lacks workaholics, in particular ones that continue to be workaholics past the first couple set backs. I do agree that we don’t lack people with ideas, I would disagree however if someone claimed they were all good ideas…
What was it, like 5 to 10 years ago or so when there was tons of adds for patent filling because everyone had the next invention that was the best thing ever? Lots of people with ideas, less with good ideas, much less with an ounce of perseverance.
I don’t want to rag on the average Joe too hard, I feel it would be disrespectful to the spirit in which Mike puts out these videos. But I’d rather see more people pull up their selves, get educated, and get back to work than to have more excuses as to why they could’ve been but just weren’t.
Fascinating story. Can't get enough. Every video is like having a casual conversation with Leonardo da Vinci 500 years later. Thanks Mike, for all that you do.
Joentexas /agree. This sort of statement would normally be hyperbole, but in Patey's case, it's genuinely true. If you watch the entire Draco video series, Mike's bonafide creative genius is demonstrated again and again. From the big picture to tiny details like the names of all those who helped or are friends put all over the plane, its meticulous and the finished product looks beyond professional. It's truly amazing that we get to watch something like this.
Except da Vinci wouldn't talk to you because you are you. Couldn't, because he spoke Italian and is as you said 500 years out of our time. If a lion could speak English we wouldn't understand them.
Oh this is beyond hyperbole this is on the knees, sucking away, BS.
My Seventh Grade Shop Class teacher was a pilot: everyone in class had to design and build a wooden airplane, our grade was determined on how well the plane flew! Love your dedication, Mike!
Listening to Mike talk about being the fastest made me envision a clean shaved Howard Hughes without the tissue boxes on his feet. You can really feel his passion.
You’re a true inspiration Mike. I love what you do, your content is great, and as a building contractor, aviation geek, and private pilot, I get a lot of “feel goods” watching you work. Thanks for publishing this and don’t stop doing what you do. You’re the best
I love mike, he seems like such a genuine guy. I love how he gives credit to people for things like the paint scheme on turbulence when he really doesn’t have to. Hopefully one day i might have the chance to meet him.
Real boys are humble and lovely. Only the half guys bark and bite.
The way this video ends is such a tease! This could easily be a two-hour movie and I would watch the crap out of it!!!
Full documentary when??? 😂
I don't know airplanes or anything about flying, but I so enjoy listening to what you come up with.
The added fuel is mind blowing!
Let’s go!! Turbulence is my favourite plane you have ever built! You are a legend Mike!
Sad that is not so much videos of Turbulence
@@MDUD777 things are changing though 😀
@@cj09beira and thats the good info because this plane is truly amazing 🔥
Thanks for finally doing some videos on Turbulence! The Lancair Legacy has always been such a beautiful plane, and yours is the ultimate version of it.
So glad you decided to share this with us, Mike!
I love all these builds. Amazing. But Mike, can we get a DracoX update/spoiler/sneak peek? Maybe just a minute or two talking about your plan??
Imagine if the Wright brothers could see what you and Mark are doing for aviation, their heads would explode at the shear genius of your projects, your designs and engineering skills are only surpassed by your passion Mike, you are a wonderful person, the whole world could take a leaf out of your book on how to make the future brighter by hard work, persistence and love for your family and friends, you are a true legend my friend.
I always wondered about the paint scheme, very cool! Thank you for going back and telling us about Turbulence. It is a phenomenal aircraft built by a true aviator.
You give so much to aviation as an innovator and to the community (paint scheme contest, flood preparedness, etc.)
Best Monday ever!!
Love how you push the boundaries of physics and aerodynamics to make one of a kind monsters like turbulence and scrappy following you for yrs and each new aircraft you build has more boundaries pushed than the other. The most awesome one i loved the most was scrappy wing how it could expand for more lift or retract when more speed was needed. Legend plain and simple.
Thanks for the share Mike. Beautiful story.
The Patey brothers are a inspiration for humanity
Oh boy, if humanity as a whole would feel inspired ba Mike and Mark the world would be a much better one. Sadly they rat race about being the biggest idiot somehow.
I love that we’re getting a chance to learn more about the amazing Turbulence 👍
Mike, I am mesmerized, so exciting to follow you on your projects. Can’t wait for the next one.
Very inspiring attitude and work Mr Patey. I bet this tickles the heck out of tinkerers and builders.
I’ve always wanted a deep dive explanation into Turbulence! You say that industry professionals said it couldn’t be done. With this recent OceanGate situation, I want to understand the difference between someone that is ego building, and someone that truly breaks barriers safely. In another video can you talk about your process to design something completely innovative and exactly what your skills are and what kinds of outside help you get? Maybe explain when to trust your own abilities and when it’s time to ask for help. Thanks again for all your inspirational videos! I’m almost to my ATP minimums and I’ve been deeply inspired by the Draco and Scrappy series. I hope to fly with you guys someday and hope to build something cool too.
Why dont you watch Mike building Draco or even Scrappy.
Plenty of hours of designing, building testing.
Even Mikes house.
Just watch the great videos.
He never mentions aero testing or much engineering analysis
This is fantastic. I really hope you have a video in this series showing a walkthrough of the plane and an onboard flying around and steep climb attitude.
loving the documentary style of these videos! Great to go back and see this vision and photos! Can't wait to hear more!
An absolute masterpiece Mike. Thank you for sharing some of the history of Turbulence. Keep on being awesome. Safe skies my friend 🇺🇸🛩️
So many things to love about this video, but I think the paint job contest was the best. The student who came up with the design did a fantastic job, and it looks incredible on this plane!
I love how your ambition and obsession with perfection hasn't changed and you still keep a positive attitude.
Let’s gooooo new video, love these keep ‘em coming❤
Mike, I haven’t met you in person, but it’s an honor to fly out of the same little airport as you. Love seeing your projects every now and then
Great content and love the in-depth look into this build. Wow keep them coming
Absolutely loved hearing this story about how you built your plane , hopefully we will see the new Draco build soon after your house is completed!
Your work ethic, engineering skills and projects are amazing to see. Thanks for the videos
It s a good thing you built it so strong so when you blew it up on the way to oshkosh the engine and nose stayed with you to safely land and walk away from the no power landing.Another one of your nine lives served you well.all the best your amazing.
Great video... as always. Loved it. The fastest 14:41 I've ever experienced. Seem fitting watching anything about Turbulence. It all goes fast.
I love how you came up with the paint!
Love this series and all your videos!! Can we please get us some flying videos of all your planes - including Turbulence? We see high quality build videos, but unfortunately the long video series always stops once the build is complete, with little to no actual flying videos. Can we please get a ride a long in your planes? Max performance takeoffs, high speed flying etc?
This ^
AWESOME BUILD Mike!!! I AM SO GLAD you were able to bring her down SAFELY!!! That was heartwrenching to listen too!!!
This things badass my man!
This is a fabulous little series you have going on here!
That paint scheme is wonderful and creative good stuff
Glad you are okay. Heard about your engine trouble yesterday . Your skills at handling the emergency were on point. The fact that the plane didn't come apart is because of the extra reinforcement you built in to it. Just glad you're safe.
So incredibly inspiring! Thanks very very very much for taking the time to make and share your videos. I cannot even imagine the dollar figure for what your time is worth, but I know it is astronomical. So again thank you for spending some on all of us! It is very much appreciated.
I love this series Mike! ❤
I never noticed the twisted paint scheme on Turbulence until you mentioned it. I always thought Turbulence looked awesome. Now I know why.
What an accomplishment to build something like that.. let alone even a normal homebuilt / experimental. Very impressive!
Love this mini series!
Can confirm strapping on a rocket and holding on is a lot of fun. Landing it was a whole lot of pain.
Mike, you effervesce with creativity _and_ artful narrative and invites all to enjoy Patey processes!! 💛🙏🏽
I was watching Dan Gryder’s Probable Cause tonight and suddenly wondered when Mike was going to put out another video. I checked and dream come true!! Awesome video. I’ve been super excited hoping to hear the background story on Turbulence. And here it is. Wow! The engineering and build qualify you put into your airplanes in such a short time is astonishing. Especially since you run other businesses. Keep ‘em coming Mike!! Thank you!!
Sorry that you had to watch one of his videos
I love Turbulence! And I love that you gave the scholarship for the paint design, good man, inspirational.
An incredible functional work of art.! Amazing.
Good morning from Minnesota!! Fantastic series! Can't wait to see more!!
You sir are incredible! The things you do are amazing!
Thanks for sharing this story. We’ve been patiently waiting.
Super interesting Mike, thanks for sharing!
Mike, you are an inspiration, I love watching your content.
You are definitely a Mad Genius. Enjoy all your videos.
LOVEEEE THISSS!!!!.... I DON'T WANT IT TO END!!!
Fascinating! all the usual quality.
Once again very interesting thanks for keeping the videos coming everything stops for a new video
Love watching Mike build
Mike, I so love the fact that _you_ do _you_ . ROCK on, man! ❤
Love this content Mike!
Some of us have never witnessed a Turbulence ride.. I hope you take us for a real ride from the cockpit!
That cockpit is sick. 1950s vibe meets glass screens and digital avionics.
What an amazing machine you've built (YET AGAIN, lol!) Mike! LOVE IT!! 🙌 👍😎👍
COOL Video Mike,... NICE work !👍👍👍until 20118 or so when you were building Draco and posting on CZcams I had no idea anyone was doing anything like this... It was an absolute joy to talk to you in 2019 at Reno ....... Please keep posting this kind of video, ..give me inspiration to do better.......
maybe others as well.🤔
People building cars themselves is wild.
Building your own badass plane and flying is absolutely mental. What a cool video.
It’s cool to see people doing stuff this badass just posting content on CZcams.
You are a legitimate genius, just doing amazing stuff.
Awesome video mike , please post the next video soon , cant wait.
Great video! Thank you!
another great story and build cant wait for the next one.
Love the history and design of Turbulence! Looking forward to saying hi at OSH again, assuming you're coming.
I always loved the paint job and colors.
The back story is awesome.
Great stuff!
Excellent stuff bro
I cannot add anything to all these great comments. It is just amazing and we run out of superlatives to describe Mike Patey.
Sofa king cool! Love this new format, Mike!
They needed you as a consultant on the Titan submersible.
This series is Awesome! I love seeing your passion come through. Mike c
Hell yeah brother!!
That's such a beautiful aircraft! 😍
Always clicking on this content!
And this week, glad you made it down ok!
Great stuff
Greet to see these videos. thanks Mikes
Please keep them coming!
Love this!
Once in HISTORY man
I wanted to add a 680HP engine to my commuter plane… amazing!
Thank you so much
Hi Mike.
I have no rites to be talking planes but the workmanship you put into Draco, Scrapy & Turbulence is somewhat incredible.
In a small group of amateur astronomers I'm in valved in your custom designed planes Draco, Scrapy & now Turbulence has been a talking topic between several members.
🙂👍🇦🇺
I smiled from beginning to end on this video. Long live system engineering and experimental aircraft.
I wasn’t sure I’d find this interesting - silly me - absolutely watch it through hanging on every word you spoke Mike.
You are indeed extraordinary 👍 … cannot wait to see what comes next 🤔
This is so cool!
A very inventive/enthusiastic mind !!
Amazing!
Love this - more on the house !
The nose really reminds me of the Mustang ,what a sweet build
Mike is Mensa certified. Really awesome!
Love it keep it up as always 💘
Mike, you are very innovative and highly skilled. Hats off to you!!!!!
I have been in the Experimental Space since 1996 with a L-39C VH-ATD, A-37B VH-AZD, two Bell Cobra AH-1Ss VH-SHC and a Mirage III-I0 Ex RAAF, A3-42 with our own Australian CASA approved Maintance Authority in house.
Love Turbulence Content!
