As for the movie itself... I kind of agree with Tim. Which is very rare for me. Lol. But the other movies had things that were enjoyable, whether it was the chemistry of the cast, an effect, a scene, the banter... it was enjoyable to an extent. Meanwhile this movie was just... bland not to mention just a full on mess in terms of continuity, dialogue, story telling, editing and direction. Nick’s argument had me frustrated because it was so contrary to what was said in the review. Dark Phoenix isn’t what’s being in question it’s which movie was better overall, and overall Apocalypse had better moments than Dark Phoenix. There was no redeeming quality in Dark Phoenix.
This was great! Awesome work guys, it was thoroughly entertaining all around. Dark Phoenix the movie was horrible but this conversation around it was awesome. I enjoyed the bit about Werewolves of London, the plot starting bit was fantastic. The "In Review" series is easily one of my favorite shows Kinda Funny makes. I do hope we eventually get a DCEU in Review just to give Greg something to watch that he genuinely cares about.
Dark Phoenix wasn't horrible it was mismarketed. Its an average movie when you judge it as a psychological thriller rather than a superhero movie.
I saw this at the cinema just so I could watch your In Review. 4 weeks later... WORTH IT! Thank you 🤣 x

I haven't watched the film (and not planning to), but there's no need at this point. The Plot recap is more entertaining than this film could ever be.
You actually do not need to be accelerating to feel centrifugal force. They would absolutely be feeling some amount of G’s from the spinning.

Just watched this move for the first time. It’s great.
Maybe when you’ve been watching X-men movies for weeks you get tired but I kind of loved this movie. It’s not prefect at all but it’s good.
It had a great score and some really good hype moments.
I thought the same thing. This movie was beautiful and heartbreaking… and the score was haunting. I really don’t understand the hate for it.

I didn't watch the movie and i'm watching the podcast. Probably it's better and more entertainning seeing this than watching the whole movie.

That review is the only good thing that came out of this movie.
I don't know how they like the "X-Women" line Mystique has. It makes absolutely no sense when the most important people of the last mission was Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. It screamed like a reshoot line or a 'woke' line they throw in like CW shows do despite it not making any sense at all.
Nightcrawler and Quicksilver didn’t save the X-Men. That is what she was referring to.
@@agentofchaos7456 Except Quicksilver literally saved Jean on the spaceship and Quicksilver also saved every single person he could when the X Mansion blew up in a previous movie. Terrible line.

I gotta be honest here, I enjoyed the movie. The villain was awful and there was no precursor to make us care about Jean Grey, but some scenes were awesome. Hans Zimmer’s score elevated every scene. The acting was mostly good. McAvoy and Fassbender were great as always.
It was a very dark and serious movie. A polar opposite from the MCU, which I appreciated. I love the MCU but welcome the variety. To say that it’s worse than Last Stand or Origins is ridiculous.
Mind Job Fair point. But I still think her character was underdeveloped. I still enjoyed the movie though

Want to address a few things.
-According to Kinberg he wanted to bring in a cosmic entity. The “Phoenix” we saw in Apocalypse was just psychic energy from Jean’s mutant powers.
-This movie was actually going to be a two-parter but Fox Studios had condensed it to a single film in late pre-production.
-True. We need a Phoenix before we get a Dark Phoenix. But the film’s title is very misleading because we didn’t get a Dark Phoenix in this movie. Jean never really makes a full turn to the dark side. According to Simon Kinberg this movie was to connect to Days of Future of Past and its ending, which had Jean alive and one of the heroes. This movie is more about how Jean DIDN’T become Dark Phoenix in the new timeline.
-The villains are here because Jessica Chastain signed on as Lilandra and they were originally going to be Shi’Ar back when this was a two-parter. But after the studio had condensed into a single film they were cut and Kinberg didn’t really know what to do with Jessica.
-Peter Evans was busy filming American Horror Story and that is why he is not in the film much.
So i was waiting to watch this until i got around to seeing Dark Phoenix, but after 2 years I dont think thats going to happen

God, what could you even say about the Lion King remake? I feel like I've already seen the damn thing just from the trailers.
I swear...I LOVE Nick...but I’m confused as to why his questionable taste in crappy movies make his opinions the standard bearer of what a good movie is.... I know he’s not, but it makes him sound snob-ish....

It's because he's the keeper of 5 things:
1- Was Blade Runner 2049 a good movie? yes
2- Was the Departed a good movie? no
3 and 4 are for Jesus
5- Is this crappy movie good?
Anyway, Dark Phoenix is not a god awful movie like Origins, it's just a series of missed opportunities. It tackles mental illness, and should've been a smaller film, but the blockbuster elements hurt it.
The problem was that they cut out a lot of series.
first in Review I watched without actually seeing the movie in question. This kinda makes me wanna see it as a joke. Not in the theaters tho

i liked dark phoenix, i thought it was solid. also kevin is wrong about jessica jones not being in the mcu, all the netflix shows and agents of shield, cloak and dagger, the runaways, etc are all technically apart of the MCU. many of them in certain ways better than a lot of the movies
Justice League was originally supposed to be THREE films, if certain reports are to be believed.

I know Dark Phoenix is a bad movie, but for some reason I enjoyed it way more than I should have.
I know it has its problems but I wouldn’t call it bad. It wasn’t about Jean becoming the Dark Phoenix about showing we got the ending of DOFP and how she didn’t become that in this new timeline.

The aliens were originally going to be Skrulls. They had to change it later because of the deal with Marvel.

@@Lauren-zx3gx Fully subjective, that's fine. Point is, they were originally going to be Skrulls until Marvel Studios was going to use them for Captain Marvel. Regardless of when the deal was finalized, part of the deal was that they couldn't use Skrulls anymore. That's why they're just generic shapeshifting aliens.
They shouldn't have made Dark Phoenix. This should have been Onslaught. They clearly built up to it with what they did with Xavier.
It’s wild that they gave Professor X so much shit in this movie like he wasn’t sending out a bunch of mostly almost 30 somethings who weren’t aware of what they signed up for. He handled Jean poorly but like everybody else was grown 😂 if they didn’t like it they just could’ve left. Mystique was one bullet away from wiping out EVERY human and she didn’t get this much shit.

I can't get over how you guys hated Apocalypse so much. What surprises me more is that X2 isn't near the top of the list. It is what defined comic book movies for the MCU(that and Spider Man 2 - Tobey).

I watched this terrible movie just for this review. Greg, thank you for making it worth it.
It’s only terrible if you look at it as a stand-alone movie.
I feel like to sum up the entirity of the Fox X-Men franchise is them just using the name of characters without the weight and legacy of those characters. The prime example being Psylocke from the last movie, a great awesome character in the comics in the movie she is a throw away player that has barely any presence. Every single movie in the X-Men franchise is just them using a character name and maybe a slight hint of their powers just because they know fans will recongize said character. Remember Emma Frost from First Class....A HUGE character in the comics complete forgettable in the movie. Nick said it best at the beginning the Dark Phoneix saga is something that should be built up over several movies not thrown together in one but they wanted to use the Dark Phoneix name because they know fans would recongize it.
This movie wasn’t about Jean becoming Dark Phoenix. According to the filmmakers it was about showing how we got the ending of DOFP which had Jean as one of the good guys.

Movie was fucking awesome lmao I’m glad it didn’t force moments of comedy just for the sake of one liners. And I loved the action scenes , super cool. I’m well aware this movie did not sit well with pretty much everyone, lol but I had a blast watching it.
