Normally you can tap the POW blocks to activate them, but I remember Bowser distinctly covering the one at the midpoint in the fight if you try to touch it. Pretty cool detail!

Actually, I think those are just guitar strums.
Not those. If you listen closely, there is a very faint male chorus behind some of brass. You can mostly hear it in between the string arpeggios.
