About:
When the most American of jazz guitarists pays homage to the icon known for his anti-American sentiments, it can’t help being symbolic. A posthumous reconciliation between the song writer from Liverpool and American tradition, rising from the depths of this conquering nation whose excesses he so often denounced. With dedication, mastery and a peaceful presence, @BillFrisellsMusic and his musicians, including the brilliant Greg Leisz on pedal steel guitar (the Country instrument par excellence), shed unexpected light on Lennon’s repertoire, including “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “In my Life” and the pacifist anthem “Imagine.” In this way, they consecrate his timeless dimension, granting the artist the dual nationality he was never able to secure during his lifetime.

I love how the greats of jazz just transcend it all back to just playing music. Jamming on a tune. Doesn't need bebop changes or the hardest licks. Just a good jam, man.
A masterful version of a classic Beatles melody..... this is perfect is every way! Let's elect Bill Frisell for US President,
The guitar is a custom build by J.W. Black, who used to work for the Fender Custom Shop
What a magnificent rendition of an amazing tune. Bill is able to weave his own particular and special magic but retain the heart and soul of the original. And he does this over and over again. He’s got to be up there at the top of the league of guitar players. And such a gentle man
Yesss ❤
This deserves more views!!
arr thats because its jazz. never going to appeal to the massses. you have to listen to it to enjoy it.
Another masterpiece from Bill Frisell and his gang. God bless them!
I like Bill. Great rendition of the song. But i would not call it a masterpiece. over used term these days, no offense.
Absolutely the best 9 minutes I’ve spent in a while.
Ringo Wollesen, Greg Harrison, Tony McCartney and Bill Lennon. Fab Four !!!
Do you know the pedal steel players name?
😂❤
This should have 10k likes.

@@stephenhayesuk I used to have a light blue strat.

Greg Leisz on pedal steel?
If Greg Leisz isn't the best steel player in the world, I don't know who is.
Or u get it or u don't, period
"Imagine" how much John Lennon would love this!
so, that just happened.....mmmmmm
floydish ,feel ashamed for describing it in that way ,he is a magnificent player in his own ,rite write right ,way !
Bass is a little heavy . Hofners !
semi-impressed, I guess
Pour moi la basse c'est NULLE
Ah, n'est pas Jaco qui veut 🙂 C'est du basique et sans doute à Frisell cela suffit.
From the caption above: " icon known for his anti-American sentiments ..." Anyone who actually followed Lennon's later life knows that he said that while he never voted, if he did he's vote for Ronald Reagan. He didn't move to the United States because he held 'anti-American sentiments,' fool. Now, back to the music.
Is this write up for real? What ostentatious horseshit.
Yeah, I legit don't follow this bit: "When the most American of jazz guitarists pays homage to the icon known for his anti-American sentiments, it can’t help being symbolic." Maybe I'm daft.
I quite agree.
John Lennon spoke of how he was more relaxed in NYC than anywhere else and in 1979 he donated $1,000 towards bullet-proof vests for the NYC police. Moreover, he was issued with a Green Card in 1976 (and his wife had residency, and his son had citizenship), so talk of an unreconciled resister of deportation injunctions "until his assassination in 1980" is, I'm sad to say, nonsense. And in 1981 Yoko donated $25,000 to the NY police Patrolmen's Benevolent Association Widows and Orphan's Fund.
John opposed war at a time when the US were at war (as did other American musos like Bill Frisell), but that doesn't make any of them anti-American. He also criticised his mother and his Aunt Mimi, but that doesn't make him anti-female relatives. "Known for his anti-American sentiments"? I think not.
It's a great piece of music, and thank you very much for uploading it, but less of the fake news, please.
bass player seems to be fumbling around for the chords. be nice if he listened to the original before performing it on TV
It seemed to me that the bassist had a firm grasp on the song; so firm, in fact, that he could improvise loosely around the structure which fits with Bill Frisell's approach to covers. It sounded good to me. I could see it being disappoibting if you were looking for a McCartney tribute
Artistic license much?
Superb
