Damn my great uncles were in WW2, ain’t no way I’m that old
If I'm not mistaken, a K98k with FMJ ammo can blow through a modern k-pot, pop the wearer's head, and then blow out the other side of the helmet. Ridiculously powerful rifle. Same for all the other bolt-action service rifles of the time.
The Mauser is a wonderfully designed rifle. If you haven't shot one IRL, it's bolting system is wild to me how advanced it was for the time.
8mm Mauser is a huuuuge rifle round. I have shot clean through 2 trees with my Mauser before.
I mean the kark is chambered in 7.92, really powerfull round
I always wondered why that particular size, then read that the Germans had detemined it to be the most efficient when designed with the proper profile.@@isaquesevero4369
Ammo is so expensive in Canada though :( @@OperatorDrewski
had the privilege of walking too close to you and dying to the land mine you stepped on. Was an honor
Nice
Even in death, you're a true gentleman.
I love how at the end, the brave marksman is snuffed out by a mere landmine. Lost to history, and the enemy whom stood before him. Very realistic shit.
Imagine how many insane IRL shit has happened but was lost to this sort of ending
@@xhappybunnyx you don't get infinite ammo in real life
My grandfather who was in Vietnam, advising ARVN logistics troops was given a kar98k by a village, he then gave it to my father, and after some research, we found out that that rifle had been manufactured in 1939, and had probably seen 40 years of combat. That has to be one of the strangest things about the Vietnam war, you had everything from mg42s to aks, and everything in between.
Soviet transfered lot of captured German weapons to NVA, before North Vietnam got SAM systems they used Flak 88s to mitigate damage from American bombing
that is insane to think about@@titanime3830
As a kid back in the 90s, I was taken in by my uncle, who was a Vietnam vet. He had taken my cousin and I up north here in Michigan from Detroit so we could go on vacation, and he brought an entire truck full of gun cases lol. I remember he had some old carbine rifle that he brought home from Vietnam, it looked like a Gewehr-43 or an SKS from what I remember. He taught me how to shoot that week, and that old thing was the first thing I used that wasn't a common bolt-action hunting rifle. There was something magnificent about what looked like such an old and weathered rifle, with most of the wooden furniture looking worn as if it had seen all different manner of owners - some careful, some careless, some fighters. That was the only time I ever saw him take that thing out to shoot, and I always appreciated that. It gave me a lot of respect for rifles as weapons of war and not just tools for hunting. It made me look at that rifle safe a lot differently when I was 12.
I farted
I want to get into arma but can't find a community that does multiplayer
The Vietnam War is easily one of the most compelling and visceral time periods you can simulate with Arma 3. Great to see more of it, Drew!
Simulating the time period of a simulation of a time period yeah? 😉
@@Rosskles....huh?
Lol that one went right over my head.
@@Crazy__Canuck lol it's been edited, it originally started, 'The Vietnam War Arma 3...etc'. I was just messin and being pedantic 😁

@@Rosskles ok I gotcha! 😄
you might already know this but something i learned from sim racing (that probably seems counter intuitive but could help with sniping when you don't know your range) if you have your FOV set to match the real world chunk of your actual eyeballs' FOV that your monitor is taking up, you get some sense of depth perception. this makes hills actually look like hills, etc. if you have some semblance of depth perception, you can more accurately guess ranges. so running a narrower FOV not only zooms the picture you're seeing, it also makes your eyes see your monitor more like a window than a monitor if that makes sense. there are calculators online for this very thing.
What would one put into a search bar to find these calculators? Or do you have a specific calculator to suggest?
Seems like I've heard of that before. How do you do it? **Edit** Ok, I looked for "setting fov to match screen" and several videos came up to explain it. Cool, I'll try it. The only problem is I don't stay the same distance from my screen when I'm playing Arma 3. I'm always leaning in and out. But it should be interesting to try in a racing sim.
it makes sense: you don't get an extra eyeball, but at far enough there's no little parallax anyways so depth becomes mostly about size. and FOV-matching makes sizes just right!
Thank you helpful interweb person
its crazy that some people can just dominate like this in a game, im always the one running around just getting lit up
its crazy that anything registers in this game at all, by the looks of it.
Sometimes we’re all the side characters for dramatic effect and that’s okay
@@TheMarcosvoltayou won't know anything in real life if you're bullets hit the target
Maybe because you're just running around? Lol. A measured, methodical approach can be just as fun but alot more rewarding. For anything in life.
Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room of rats. Rats? Rats make me crazy…
What's crazy is you still see those German weapons in areas where Soviet weapons are used - A few years ago, they found entire caches of STG44s, MG42s, etc. in Syria, and there are videos of them being used in combat by ISIS.

Ok. Now this looks like the kind of ArmA ive wanted to play for years. I need to get in on this
Hell yeah brudderrr
I hate to break this to you, but it’s been possible for years. There are many very well made mods that have been around, go search the workshop pages
@@landonlittrell8198 I'm aware that mods and DLC have been available. It's the community and player-led server that I'm after. The last things I enjoyed in ArmA 3 multiplayer was Tactical BF and EUTW, but neither exist anymore.

That has also existed for years. This one seems particularly good sure but it is not a new concept at all.
.. i agree with you blindside, this video was really fun to watch
At the end I was trailing you two by about 5m luckily. Saw you blow sky high and slowly crept backwards out of that minefield and disappeared into the bush.
You dont realize the advantage of just having a second pair of eyes to scan for you.
Had some amazing convos while just sitting on a bluff chattin with someone i was spotting for, heh.
I was part of the small group that kept trying to get up that shoreline. In the end only two of us (RTO/me and the SL) and we were trying to be super stealthy. It was awesome swimming across the water to flank you guys from the side!
i'm pretty sure i saw that movement in the video but he was busy shooting at the far shoreline/skyline outlines further back and to the right.
I wish more people realized how much more fun arma is in the S.O.G/ vietnam era, gun play feels so much more satisfying when you dont have to shoot someone in the chest 4-5 times for them to go down
Honestly, you're also providing those gamers down on the beach with an incredible immersive experience. Picking up your wounded buddy and being missed by mere inches and the bullet hitting the log beside you... damn.
New sub... Can't believe I've never seen or heard about this game! So cool! I need to pull my head out of the sand!!!
Arma 3 is fantastic. Make sure you have a decent CPU in your PC to run it smoothly :)
I can't believe you've never heard of or seen Arma 3 lol....in a few days, literally, on the 13th, will be this particular game's 10th anniversary (not Arma itself as a franchise, just Arma 3's 10th)..... this what Drewski's showing here, is literally just a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of what this "game" has to offer. You can do or play anyway you want, on countless different maps(some, most, well over hundreds of square miles large), men, vehicles, areal, sea, arms large and small, tens of not hundreds of thousands of mods available, countless different built-in game modes and modded game modes (DayZ itself began as an Arma 2 mod, everyone's heard of DayZ lol)....buy it on sale, get the combo pack.
@@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 Will do. Thank you man.
As a South East Asian, there's rule for guerilla warfare for us:
#1 Make a route through the thickest forest, don't do shortcut through the open filed.
#2 If you meet the enemy, do not gather together in one spot, but spreads and surrounding the enemy.
#3 If you want to runaway, chose different directions from each other, but make sure you keep running in the thick forest, and then garther again at the meeting point that has been comunicated before.
when you guys were running across that open field in the beginning there were literally 3 or 4 full squads shooting at yall, including the weapons squad so you guys had close to 40-50 people shooting at once
Woot more from this event!!
Been watchin Karmakut ‘s videos lovin this giant game
Great video as always. Keep up the great work!
Gotta love when Drew uploads another sniping video
Thank you so much for zooming in the camera because the rest of the time I couldn’t see Jack I’m blind lmao please keep that as a feature in any videos like this in the future made it so much easier to watch also great video man
Thank you for zooming in! I watch on my phone, and it helps a lot for the action. 👍
Props to your spotter man. He is so good.
I own a relatively rare K98K with matching numbers and the during the war retrofitted original ZF41 scope - The combo which I guess is used here. The scope is only 1.5x with a German Post Reticle and is less sniper scope than DMS, no windage adjustment. The scope is hard to zero and the optic is, well let's say "according to it's age". The place where it's mounted on the rifle makes the setup almost the first Scout Rifle. But she is a pleasurer to shoot, especially with handloaded ammo. Good work, Mr Drewski! The animations are incredible accurate.
I love spotter/sniper teams.
These Arma vids have been awesome man! I hope to see more!. Keep up the awesome work Drewski, and keep kicking ass!!.
Nice shooting. The sound was incredible in this engagement too
A video with the Kiowa Warrior and AH-64D Apache like the Air Cav used to do would be an awesome combo video to do at some point.
I was an air traffic controller for the army in the late 90’s early 2000’s. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen was at Fort Rucker, Al where the apaches and warriors practiced hunter killer techniques. Hatch stage field was where they did live fire exercises. Watching those hellfires and rockets go down range was something else.

I've read books on Vietnam (the 10 000 day war being one)...
The French Foreign Legion had a suspicious amount of ex German soldiers, not to mention some of the methods used...
Their Vietnam war started in 1946...hence the weaponry.

Soothing Sniper Fire ASMR for Study & Relaxation
This by far is your best series, next time you should try and be an RPG team, see if you can bring down one of their choppers, and get them trapped in the jungle.
Can someone please tell me how in the world they plan/set up a mission like this? Like is it super hard and unheard of? Or is this something that normally happens in arma where they are LITERALLY WAITING/patrolling for hours and it’s just super freaking realistic. You got people teaming up and assisting other groups on OTHER MISSIONS!?! This is like a dream come true to me haha how do I get to do something like this???

18:04 xD that is an awesome reference. I think..? I can't remember the name of the song though.. anyway this was an awesome video dude! Great job haha
This reminds me of the old days in Arma 2 DayZ Mod hunting people with a Lee enfield or DMR sniper rifle, trying to get their loot and stay alive. I really really miss those days, there is still no other game like vanilla and epoch dayz mod.

Dude in the beginning, for some reason, the bird adds so much to thr atmosphere.
These are so good to watch
i might have to try this game, never been a fan of the modern war stuff but damn love me some vintage combat
I don't know much about Arma 3, but one time when I was about to sleep my cat came over and slept next to me.
I hope you do more of these ambush videos
Aah yes, looks like its time to not sleep
9:50 that's some hairy palms you got there Mr. Vietcong Drewski...
Yooo I love your videos Drew
that intro, some war vet had flashbacks, when the trees shoot back
Of the battlefield series, BF Vietnam was the most interesting with the Era music in the background. I know this is Arma, but yeah, the time period was like a return to ww1 trench fighting. Vicious fighting for no name hills to die on.
Timestamp 26:57 I'm watching this video from Davao Philippines at 9am while eating breakfast. I'm asking myself why am I hearing Tuko lizard at this hour. Then it hits me. The sound is coming from the game lol. Guess they have Tuko in Vietnam as well. Great Video!!
If I am not mistaken the vietcong also used Canadian made sten smgs that made their way into Chinese hands during ww2 and were modified to take 7.62 Tokarev.
Every time I hear that bird sound effect I think of the ambient machine in Madagascar lol.
Yay another epic video by yours truly Drewski. Kiss the cat for me
He somehow crawled into my bed frame this morning and got stuck underneath (he was perfectly fine)
I woke up to "help!" meows and had to take apart my bed to get him out
He was very happy to be freed LOL

It toke me way to long to watch this video, this is good 😂
Watch out for those hazard trees ! Always look for snags
I always LOVED a tdm where im severly outnumbered, especially in an open map.

That's a hell of a first minute.
Oh my god that opener is a nightmare scenario
Opening clip: *fortunate son starts playing*
I wonder what it would of been like if the rpg took the heli down 😂 can we get more of this !!!!
Seems like the incoming rounds audio has significantly gotten better from what I remember Arma 3 having.
You’re hearing a mixture of sog dlc sounds and unsung sounds. Nothing vanilla.
You know it’s immersive when you start making zoidberg noises running away.
Reminds me of the sniper scene in full metal jacket. But that was just a girl deleting a group on her own.
Real gun variety for VC is one thing i love from the game Rising Storm 2, and also im too adhd to handle all the down time in milsim arma circles 😂
The bird noises around 5:30 are just chocobo noises from final fantasy lol
It's been so uncanny watching a simulation of the Vietnam War through the VK perspective. It feels so much more difficult to see this as the same conflict we learned about in school, rather than some rebel force protecting their home from an invasive enemy... But even still, these videos have been awesome to watch, adds a whole new light to ARMA. Hope to see you post plenty more!
It was a rebel force protecting their home from invaders. We were the invaders.

giving someone an accurate rifle with a good scope, does not, a sniper make.
@@NateTheScot doesn’t have to, when it increases the lethality of each soldier. When the marines started using the Garand it went up, when they started using optics it went up.
Having everyone armed with a long range weapon is not at all a good idea. What wins fights is fire supioriority. I.E. high volumes of fire. The Wehrmacht against Soviets found this out.
The U.S. already tried this in Vietnam with the M14, but went with the M16 when rounds down range is what gets out of ambushes and makes advances possible. In WWII, the big reason why U.S. soldiers had a decent advantage over the Wehrmacht was because the M1 had such a higher fire rate then the K98.
Besides, long range rifles are becoming moot with the increasing relevence of vehicles, aircraft and precision artillery.
"go home G.I.!!!" lol
